  1. No options?? That means only one thing. Can Ehire Adrianza pitch???
  2. Maybe a Perez move coming. If not, it always seems you have too many versatile IFs in MLB/AAA until you need them. I have always been a Rivera fan, but I'm quickly losing faith. You really don't need a traditional UT on the 25 this season the way the roster is constructed. Seems destined to be a AAA player barring injury or trade in spring.
  3. If there was, it's long gone. Only way you can prove that allegation is the parties named admit it, or they get the emails. And those emails are long ago deleted, of course. If Correa had copies of any of these emails, he would have produced them by now. It does make you wonder how much of this stuff goes on. With all the movement by scouts, front office people, coaches, even players, how much proprietary info travels around?
  4. Nah, he's still cheap and still has value. Nothing to lose by playing this out. Insurance for now if Villar is injured. I can't see him staying on the 25 all year as a backup 2B, but there's no reason not to have him on the 40 for now. But I agree, I just don't believe he can play any other position even marginally well. Maybe LF, but I don't see any point in that.
  5. Not sure how much money it would take, but I would love to have Cook, Perry, Trumaine Johnson, and Berry. Let Hyde walk unless he's cheap. Morgan Burnett can be traded or used in nickel/dime similar to Hyde's role. Will be on the field most of the time anyhow. Move Clay inside full time. Draft a pass rusher in 1st round, maybe even move up- deep year for that. No chance of most of that happening, of course.
  6. Not sure it has anything to do with the bonus pool. I think the $2MM is just $2MM, not related to either team's bonus pool?
  7. Well then, crap, I've told some friends that if Capers returns, I'm not watching the Packers next season. I cannot stomach 30+pts a game consistently having to be overcome and be rescued by the heroics that is Aaron Rodgers QB'ing. At least the Bucks are growing more and more exciting. Hate to even say it, but more bad news for you. Bucks have lost 8 of their last 9 ; )
  8. Encouraging McCarthy press conference, essentially saying nothing changes. He's back, Capers is back, TT is back. Matthews will not move to inside. (Then, frankly, a BS line about how Clay moves all over already.) Very stubborn group at 1265 these days.
  9. Actually, it would be worse because you're trotting that struggling pitcher out every 3rd game with no bullpen to bail him out. Not to mention really ticking off the SB you just pulled who just retired the first 9 batters in order. Replacing a SP who is hot with a RP would is not just because it's his turn? Sorry, I don't see it.
  10. Except that essentially shortens the BP by two pitchers. If they ever expand the roster, some of these concepts would be a lot more feasible. I mean, something like you just suggested would work in Sept after roster expansions. And that especially makes sense at that time of year if you're out of the playoff chase and want to limit innings for a few starters.
  11. Yea, for the reasons I mentioned near the top (Devaluing pitchers, union issues, etc.), and some great points from others, this wouldn't work. What happens if one or both of the first 2 are lights out, or get rocked. With only 1 or 2 options left in the BP, those guys would have to pitch virtually every day, which is not workable. Give the guy more innings that got pulled the previous start? Less to the other guy who may actually be pitching better? And having 3 guys slotted every night, odds are one of them will be off. Yea, they use piggy-back starters in the low minors. They have no choice, as they want/need to limit the innings and have a look at more guys in the starts role. But that's only 2 pitchers slotted for each game, not 3 which is a pretty big difference. Oh, and winning isn't the only goal in a MiLB game. Here's what I think could work. Develop relief pitchers to be able to pitch more than one inning. Better, yet several innings. That would go a long way in getting close to the OP's plan. It would offer a lot more flexibility than having a strict structure of 3 pitchers every game. That would give you the best of both worlds. If the SP can give you a QS, great. If not, you have several options to put in the game that can give you 2-4 innings. You're only using one other pitcher, rather than the blowing through 4 guys. Again, I hate to throw water on this idea because I am always looking for different ways of doing things.
  12. I'm always open to thinking outside the box on stuff like this. One immediate concern I see is decreasing the value of the pitchers. Would be impossible to trade anyone as a SP, since they're not stretched out. You would never be able to land one in FA, and worse never be able to keep your own pitchers. Plus, expect a ton of pressure from the players themselves, their agents, and the union. Because this would kill their value in arby years, and again once they become a FA. Also, I don't know that you can find 9 pitchers effective enough to use that often. Look how hard it is every year for most times to find a consistent #5 starter, or even #2-5 starters. Now you're adding 4 more guys automatically pitching every 3rd day of the season. It's interesting in theory, I just don't see it working in practice.
  13. C: Someone not yet acquired 1B: Braun 2B: Diaz SS: Dubon 3B: Erceg LF: Ray CF: Brinson RF: Phillips Rotation: Davies, Hader, Woodruff, Diplan, Someone not yet acquired Santana, Broxton, Villar, and Arcia get traded. Braun won't be traded, so needs to start somewhere.
  14. Patriots basically take the Money Ball approach. Doesn't matter where a player comes from or how they're acquired. Is he a good fit, and does the price tag fit for what you get. I agree with the Packers draft and develop philosophy, but then you darn well better be able to, you know, draft and develop. They haven't been able to do that for years now on the defensive side of the ball.
  15. Why is it a given? I think FA is a great place to find a RB. They are generally very cheap, unless a stud somehow ends up on the market. But yea, I would still draft one. And they will bring in a couple Undrafted FA. Also, yea I expect them to bring Lacy back for a cheap contract.
  16. What about the Padres? I know, they're rebuilding. Why in the world would they want Braun? First, they rather suddenly have a deep system. So they could make a deal and still have a ton of talent left in the system. Ok, fine, but question remains why would they trade for Braun? San Diego lost the Clippers, now the Chargers. They may feel the need to pick up the pace on a rebuild and take some chances. Let's face it, they've been rebuilding for 20 years. Maybe bringing in Braun shows their fans they are committed to winning? Also a big name to help sell tickets. And Braun has always raked there. If the Brewers paid apportion of his salary, and not overly greedy on prospect return, is a deal with DS possible? To answer my own question, no, very far-fetched. Just curious on opinions of others.
  17. Yea, very much like the way I spent my allowance when I was 8. Blow it all on crappy candy as fast as I could. I think they believed all these players are good enough to be easily flipped at any time, but that's a horrible strategy and already proven wrong in this case.
  18. The more I read, the more excited I am about the bats, and less excited I am about the arms.
  19. IDK, all depends which scrub is bringing it. Henson has games where he plays really well. Part of it is match-ups, but it just seems really random when Henson and Plumley play well or horrible. Come to think of it, Monroe fits that category as well. But at least with Monroe you usually get at least a passable performance. Any one of those contracts wouldn't be a problem, it's that they're stuck with all three.
  20. Loved Hell or High Water. Was stoked to see Arrival, at the time RT had a score of like 98% or something. It was good, and yes I think I picked up on most of the messages, just didn't love it. I will see Hacksaw Ridge at some point, doubt I will see any other of the best picture nominees. No, I won't be watching the Oscars.
  21. Montgomery avg 5.9 per carry Lacy avg 5.1 per carry Ripkowski 4.4 per carry And I might be wrong but Montgomery lead the league in yards after contact average. To me it's more of a won't do that a can't do. Maybe some of that is Rodgers but McCarthy needs to stick to the run a bit longer in games. Exactly!! Montgomery gets a bad rap since he's a converted WR. But if you actually watch his runs, he is already a very good RB. Has some quick change of pace and more power than you would think. His first carry was 3 or 4 yards. Then that was it. No more runs at all for the next several possessions- other than New Kuhn's fumble. That really should have been the game plan, run it more to shorten the game. In the end, yea it doesn't matter. They were never going to outscore Atlanta on this day.
  22. Haven't ordered or read his reports yet, but some still believe Hader won't stick as a SP. While I don't agree, it's not like it's a crazy opinion. That uncertainty can drop his stock a bit. That's why I like taking in all the information, it's all good stuff. Woodruff's ranking has been all over the map. That's what happens when someone comes out of the blue (somewhat) to post a monster season.
  23. I've seen those rumors, also rumors that he will stay as GM for one more year. If that's true, then just make a change now. No reason to have a lame duck GM sticking around.
  24. Or if the Brewers move back to the AL.
