  1. They are? I haven't heard or read that anywhere. All I've seen are comments from Stearns and others that AA was a very aggressive placement for him last year. He battled through it at 3 yes younger than average at that level. 2017 will be ano important year for him, Luke so many others in our Top 25.
  2. Another thing. It is possible for a player to have a franchise player type season, not necessarily a career. Marco Rivera for a quick example, but there are plenty of other examples. That's what it's all about. Build a team that's really good 1-25. Then hope you have a guy or two with a career year, or rent a star, and that's plenty to win it all.
  3. Yes, I'm implying they may already be in the system. Woodruff, Hader, Diplan, Peralta, Ortiz...maybe others. Just because they don't "project" doesn't mean it's a given. Most minor league players end up being better or worse than their projection. Same thing for the bats. Heck, Villar is almost that franchise bat already if the trend continues. Brinson, Erceg, Diaz, Ray... you just never know. Besides, as I said in my original post, I don't think getting that ace or franchise hitter is as important as having a roster of 25 really good players.
  4. I knew this would come up! No, nothing to do with Nottingham. There is pressure from fans no matter what. There is pressure from the club to get better. Most of all, it's the pressure he puts on himself. None of that changes whether Maldy, Susac, or Bandy are catching for the Brewers in 2017. If Nottingham really rakes and turns himself into an average defensive catcher he will get the job eventually, period. Nottingham will be in AA all season, it's all on him and none of these other catchers have anything to do with it at all.
  5. KC made it to two WS and won it all without developing a franchise pitcher OR hitter. It can be done. If they build a team with really good hitters 1-8, defense, speed...then you honestly don't need another Braun type franchise hitter. If they build a rotation of 4 or 5 guys with #2 starter ability with a really good BP, that can be enough. You don't need a franchise pitcher. With that said, we have no idea if there is a franchise pitcher or hitter who will arrive on the scene in the next few years. It's entirely possible.
  6. Susac/Pina/Bandy. They keep 2 of the 3, the other gets sent down or released. Gives them options, whereas with Maldy you pretty much have to keep him on the 25. I think that's why they did moreso than money. We had to throw Gagnon in? I mean, whatever, just seems odd we would have to sweeten the deal for a .673 OPS backup catcher.
  7. Another "kick the tires" guy. Only a minor league contract so worth taking a look in ST.
  8. By "5 schools" I'm assuming you mean the High Schools? Then there's also Xavier and Fox Valley Lutheran, and a couple other smaller HS. And yes, they all have stereotypes. Everyone has their opinion, but if I remember right from test scores they're all pretty close. Kimberly is definitely the cream of the crop for athletics, with Appleton North probably in 2nd. Also, remember there is open enrollment here. My own opinion, I wouldn't make a decision on where to live based on the HS when your oldest is only in pre-school. HS is 10+ years away, a lot can change by then! Edit: Pains me to say it, but I would also consider Hortonville/ Greenville. Some new schools out that way, and housing maybe a little more affordable.
  9. Actually, Yo is still a starter
  10. Same problem we had 35 pages ago. The Brewers basically have one option for Braun- the Dodgers. Meanwhile, the Dodgers have many options to find a RH bat. That's why I'm not real optimistic this will get done.
  11. I'll say this, whether the Packers or Lions win the division they sure will earn it! Packers most likely would have to win their last 6 games. Lions, to finish up, have to make it through the gauntlet of Dallas, Giants, Packers. I like that. Nothing cheap here, the best team WILL win the division. And with everyone else winning, it does look the division title is the best way to the playoffs for the Packers again.
  12. Well, we do have the Timber Rattlers, so that's a plus ; ) I know this is early, so you may not even have specific questions yet. As far as schools go, Appleton, Neenah and Kimberly districts are very good, in my opinion. Hortonville/ Greenville area is really growing too. FV is a very family friendly area as you probably already know. For housing, not sure if you want to rent or buy. If you're looking at buying, best thing to do is check out Realtor/Trulia etc. and you'll get a real good idea what is available for the price range you have in mind.
  13. You had me at "Fowler is 3 years younger." It's as simple as that. Not mention chronic back and hand and abdominal issues.
  14. Great example. I think that's what most of us are saying. If someone offers a young, controllable, really special SP for Arcia, you don't hang up the phone.
  15. Pleasant surprise for me, pretty manageable. Diaz, Ortiz, Diplan, Bickford, Ponce, Perrin not on the list yet. Woodruff I predict being on the 25 before the end of the season.
  16. We never said we didn't do stupid things at 21, I know I did. Doesn't mean what Bickford did isn't incredibly stupid.
  17. Yes, I agree. When he just catches and shoots he looks confident and more smooth. Any time to think about it and he's sort of aiming it.
  18. Not going to debate if weed should be legal, that's for the political forum. I will say this. Even in stated where pot is legal, employers still can and do test for it and fire employees who fail a drug test. Bottom line, every one of us follow rules at work we don't agree with. As someone said, either he's stupid or addicted. Both are troubling.
  19. Interestingly, Giannis best year shooing 3s was his rookie year, believe it or not. Shot 35%, which isn't all that bad- especially for a rookie. I've seen him get in groove shooting 3s in warm-ups, draining a bunch in a row. So he can do it, but a whole other matter doing it consistently in games. Thing is, if he isn't a 28-30 point guy that's ok with me. He does so many other things for you. I almost rather have Jabari and Middleton share in the scoring role, and let Giannis be a triple double machine. By the way, Jabai has improved his three ball, and I could see him improving that shot as time goes on.
  20. Yes and no. Any way you slice it, it is impressive. At the same time though, the game has changed. For decades PG got assists, not big scorers or rebounders. SG and small forwards usually weren't big assist or rebound guys, etc. There were plenty of guys capable of triple doubles over the years, but the game was just played differently.
  21. Many years from now we'll all look back fondly on the Caleb Smith years...errrr minutes.
  22. 1) Stearns wasn't "rolling the dice." They absolutely knew someone would take Diaz. 2) This should put to rest the whole "tanking" debate once and for all. Stearns kept a couple serviceable BP arms for this season rather than keep a young, high upside guy on the 40.
  23. I know 1B in bar league softball who are better defensively than Carter.
  24. Forgive me if this has already been said over the 14 pages. Another thing to consider is the improved defense at the corner IF positions, and the effect that has on the young starting pitchers coming up the next couple years. With Hader, Lopez, Woodruff, etc. on the horizon, I think it's a huge plus to ask them to be groundball pitchers then put players out there who can actually field them. Being a rookie SP is tough enough without having grounders booted, 1B who can't save a bad throw, double plays that aren't turned, etc. 1B/3B is now much better defensively than Carter at 1B and a cast of thousands at 3B.
  25. I made this point earlier, but limited for time I stuck to an OPS comparison. Thanks for providing more detail and really putting this into perspective. Point being, as you said, people love Diaz (and many love Erceg too) but if you really look at it objectively, Dubon is better on paper. But again, he didn't come delivered with the "Top 100" stamp on his head, so he's underwhelming to some. Like with Diaz, Stearns was just ahead of the curve getting Dubon BEFORE he turns up on Top 100 lists. Not to mention Top 100 lists are far from the be all/ end all.
