  1. Monty makes a great point. "Top 10" doesn't really mean anything, it changes year to year. Big difference between trading a true future franchise player, and some guy listed at #5, just because he was the 5th best prospect THIS year, back in March. There's a lot of guys like Arcia. A really good prospect, but not a dominant starting pitcher or 5 plus tool position player.
  2. Mud Kickers or Fire Frogs, it's a toss up. Love them both! Call them anything you want though, as long as they remain the Brewers affiliate.
  3. That's called Negotiating 101, probably taught first day of GM class. I never believe any of that stuff. Yea, we all know a team doesn't want to give up their top prospect. But for the right deal anyone is available.
  4. Since we're about to do our own list, I don't want to get into specifics. Let's just say my list will be quite a bit different than this. I will pile on and say I'm surprised how many guys from this draft class are on the list, including Ray all the way up at #2. Only other thing I'll say is a few of these guys are way over-ranked based almost exclusively on potential, where results show otherwise. Always fun to see the lists though!
  5. Mike Piazza trade(s) first thing that came to mind. And that wasn't a deadline trade. Very rare for a catcher of Lucroy's calibre to be available at the deadline. So rate I can't even recall one either.
  6. Still think an AL team makes the most sense for Braun, but if he ever gets traded to an AL team I'm sure it will be the Dodgers.
  7. Also a relevant question, does Matheny automatically get .100 OPS points deducted automatically due to his current job?
  8. Freddy Peralta and Perrin with nices outings well. Great to see the passion from some these guys trying to reach their goal of being named to bf.net top 25.
  9. I don't think they have enough for Lucroy. I would take Christin Stewart and Joe Jimenez for Jeffress or Smith though.
  10. Looks like the Brewers may have enough Tommy John guys through the organization to field an entire pitching staff.
  11. Wilkerson with a very nice outing today. That's two really good starts, one horrible start for those scoring at home.
  12. And far too many jokers. Problem is, when you focus on a specific tool too much you end up with Roache and Coulter. Look, the Brewers have a long way to go in this rebuild. At this point, I'm fine if the return they get back in any trades are all SS and CF. If those guys are the best talent available, that is literally all that matters right now. Any holes can be addressed own the road. But in no way am I willing to say "we're good there" at ANY position right now.
  13. I'm not going to say BC has no effect. Certainly it affects power. But I won't accept that as an excuse for a guy who is repeating that level, with worse results. Same as Phillips in AA. Also, I don't believe switching from C to RF has anything to do with it. You're not doing a whole lot of thinking in RF, if anything far less pressure than worrying about calling the game as catcher. It is what it is. Different guys hit the wall each step of the way up the ladder, and A+could very well be Coulter's wall. He is still relatively young, and if he goes to AA next year and rakes he's back on track. I don't see that happening, but it's not impossible either.
  14. Yea, I really don't care if they get a catcher in return. They just drafted a few, and Max McDowell is quietly having a very solid year in Appleton. Worst case, you can go buy a catcher when they're competitive again, they'll have a ton of money to spend. I want guys that can hit, regardless of position, that have 4 or 5 tools. And/or pitchers with high floors.
  15. Yes, we're getting way OT here, there are threads in Minor League forums where farm system can (and is) discussed.
  16. Or the Braves could be scouting any of the other 24 Brewers who are available now or off-season for the right price. Want impact players for the new ballpark? How about Braun?
  17. He's hitting .333 for the Skybox as I type this.
  18. I swear nobody wants to be in the top 10 of our next top prospect list.
  19. That is kind of the point of the rebuild. You're trading away proven commodities for potential superstars. Deadline deals between buyers and sellers are commodity for prospect deals, not commodity for commodity. Rebuilding clubs aren't really in the business of trying to acquire proven commodities and contenders aren't really in the business of trading them. And a few top 51-100 minors players, at any level in the minors, is worth way, way more than a comp pick. IF IF IF they realize that potential...that's the key...Look at Mat Gamel, look at several other minor league ball players(especially for the Brewers), that had "star" potential, that flamed out. You get 3 minor league players say ranked 96-99...now what happens if NONE of them pan out?? You are right back to square 1 and have to start all over again. Give me two top 25-50 prospects and I will bet all of Donald Trump's $$ that the odds of one of them working out to be a superstar are better than the odds that any of the 3 ranked 96-99 will. Wouldn't Gamel be the exact type of AAA proven prospect you're saying you want?
  20. Then you would like the Texas deal, Gallo + someone else. But most here don't like that deal either. And yes, the rebuilding may be 5+ years away regardless of what they get back for Lucroy. (Although with top shelf talent, it won't take those A guys 5 yrs to get to Milwaukee.)
  21. Jinx. Just hope we're both wrong, and they feel the pressure to get more aggressive and go for a Lucroy deal.
  22. Wren actually went 5 for 5 today. And a walk...
  23. Hope they enjoy the World Series batting 2 pitchers #8 and #9 on the road, then. Good luck. And their response would be "Good luck with the comp pick you'll get for Lucroy two years from now." That's why these negotiations can be so tough at times. Who's to say there's not some mediocre catcher they can get for far less than Lucroy's price tag? Yea, they need and upgrade there, but they don't need a catcher with .850 OPS. Again, I'm not saying I agree with their position. Just floating where I think they're coming from.
  24. FWIW, starting to hear rumors the Indians are looking at Beltran
