No one is getting on Kotsay. Its Ron who we have the problem with. Players like Weeks will have bad games and that play by Corey should have been caught but its not the first time he has missed balls like that. But both of those guys are just as likely to make plays than they are not. In no universe should Kotsay ever be starting in CF. More often than not you are going to get exactly what happened, Kotsay not getting to a ball that others would have and in this particular case it was huge as it led to 3 runs and extra pitches Yo didn't have to throw. When that happens you are going to have people up in arms and for good reason. It is all about what is most likely to have happen and starting Kotsay in CF is likely to hurt, unfortunately today it hurt a lot.

Can you go through the progression of 1 run instead of 4? They batted around that inning, I don't think Yo was pitching nearly well enough to escape with 1 run even if that's an out on the second batter. Furcal single, bloop that should have been caught by Jay (1 out). Pujols double (1 run in) 2 straight walks followed by a double play (3 outs)

And the terrible first inning pitching by Yo and the quiet offense down the stretch has nothing to do with it.Kotsay never should have been starting and had he not been Yo gives up 1 run not 4. So that terrible first inning pitching turns in to probably 6 innings of 1 run ball and its 2-1. The offense disappearing means nothing at that point. There was absolutely no reason to start Kotsay in CF and it cost in a big way.

If we lose 4-3 its on Ron for starting Kotsay plain and simple.

Yea even with the Pujols double if Gomez is in to make that play Yo is out of the 1st with 20 pitches and down 1-0.

You have to hope the manager at least tries to put good defense out there. I firmly believe DPR has no idea what a good defender looks like. He has pulled guys for defense in a few games but has never pulled KIotsay. Kotsay can't even field a ground ball in the outfield. You mean like replacing Weeks for defensive reasons but not Betancourt?And Hairston for Weeks but not McGehee
