  1. No, you're right. He keeps giving up free 90's (walks) at his current rate, there is no justification to bring him up. Especially if they continue to contend all year. Still, ever since he and Parra were at Beloit that year, there's been a certain fascination with the both of them.
  2. The paradox that is Dennis Sarfate. 2 innings, no runs (good)2 hits(ok), another walk(stop that!) and 6 - count 'em - 6 k's (great). If there ever comes a day that he harnesses that energy, we will be witness to something quite special.
  3. West Virginia again (yawn) with the W. Taylor Green again hitting the ball all over. Good for Brae Wright with another good outing.
  4. I agree, the White Braun Jersey or the black Prince jersey. I almost liked the game worn collared retro jersey with the simple"N" on the front, but it probably won't have the style effect you wish to throw down.
  5. The Good the Bad and the Ugly. Good (relatively) obscure quote. Very good. If we're doing the fill in the next line, try this one. I know there's some Marx Brothers fans out there: Vamp: Why, I've never been so insulted in my life! Groucho: -
  6. First I loved the ending, I laughed out loud when it happened, I guess 'cause it was unique and the fact that everyone was going to be ticked. That ending will have people talking all the time about it. One thing I learned when I was a youth league commisioner was, that if a tough decision had to be made, make sure everyone gets hosed, so it does not look like you have special interests. That's what this ending is. It's open ended, and NO ONE likes it, so we all agree - - it's genius.
  7. WV scores 1 in the top of the 1st, then Braddock 3 up 3 down with 2 k's in the bottom. I believe it just doesn't matter who plays there. The uniforms are like superman suits. You just put 'em on and you instantly play great.
  8. Brewers are done drafting? Tullo is their last pick. Interesting that he was an unsigned DFE this year. Maybe summer league play will cause him to be signable and ready for fall ball?
  9. Mass, I really don't disagree with the placements. like I said I'm excited about those kids too. I've just been around too long to not have seen hundreds of wunderkinds who looked great on paper and scouting reports coming in and look like they never belonged at all when they limp away in a year or so. I'd just prefer to actually see an inning or two in the pros to see if they actually belong, rather than simply handing them a spot in the most important and revered list in all of sports - the BFN Power 50.
  10. Really good stuff. The placements and movement on the top 20 to 25 is very well thought out. Lots of hard work here - thanks. I still have a tough time justifying kids who have yet to play an inning being listed over kids who have already put up more than decent numbers like Wendte, LeFave, and Caufield, or even the Knucklescraper(Shanks). I read about Seidel and 3 DFE's on the Power 50 the same night after I listen to (not listed) Travis Wendte (4-0, 3.23) throw 4 perfect innings with (5 strikeouts) of relief tonight in tonight's WV pennant clincher, or (not listed) Andrew LaFave's(.323) 4th hit of the game being a game clinching 3 run HR. I just have a tough time figuring that out (though I have been told I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed). I freely admit that you're probably correct in many of those assesments. I too am very excited about those same kids' chances. But my coaches taught me when I was a little boy that there's those that say they are big game hunters, and there's those that actually have skins on the wall. I did not know what they meant then, but I think I do now. Okay, I've had my rant. I know the Power 50 is meant to spur discussion, but if I have disrespected BFN and it's fine staff of contributors in any way, I sincerely apologize. Blast away.
  11. Yo had a better run last year and is still in the minors today, learning, growing and preparing to be a quality MLB pitcher. Inman is 20 years old, having great success in A Ball, where he needs to be. Having him up and getting shelled in a pennant race is not what you do to your prized prospect.
  12. No way. Why mess with his own personal growth path? He's too important to rush.
  13. LeFave with a 3 run jack in the 9th to bust it open. Chapman just triples in another. Knucklescraper warming up for the 9th. Looks like tonight's the night.
  14. Travis Wendte dealing in relief. 3 innings no hits. Last 4 hitters 3 straight k's and a weak groundout. Bouchie and LeFave on fire tonight.
  15. I too like Clancy and Ludlum, and recently Vince Flynn's books I just blew through. Right now I'm reading "Team Of Rivals" by Doris Kearns Goodwin. It is a fascinating read about Lincoln and his cabinet, which was made up of all of his political rivals. I'm just mesmerized by this book.
  16. 3 signed DFE's are pitchers, Robinson, Bryson & Tyson. plus we never really know what they have "brewing" with signing latin kids.
  17. Well, if you send alot of college players to Helena, you've got a good chance to really compete in that league again, as there are a couple of teams that use that league instead of Arizona for their HS kids. LaPorta will not go there, but your DFE's and these picks in 3 and 4 already give that team a college flavor.
  18. Kenny Holmberg and Taylor Green with back to back jack jackety jacks.
  19. Waaayyyyyy too drawn out. Seemed staged and almost scripted. Had to use the full 5 minutes for commercials. I liked it a lot better on MLB.com last year, with the commentary coming as fast as the picks.
  20. Thanks for the thread Brian and of course thanks to colby. BFN's depth of information on the minors and the draft is what attracted me to this site in the first place and it's what has kept me coming here for my daily baseball fix.
  21. No one here watches Rome on HBO? Pullo bit out a guy's tongue to start a fight between factions in the city. Coolest thing I've ever seen on TV. He said it tasted like chicken.
  22. Green and Ford are having just sick years (to date). "The Knuckle Scraper" with another save.
  23. You're probably correct. But each kid grows at their own pace. I've learned over my advanced years that patience is always a good thing when dealing with a gifted pupil. I guess I'm just an optimist. Even though Braun us up already, there is still a need to develop another 3rd baseman or 3. I hope they just stick with him. By the way: Am I the only one needing methadone because West Virginia isn't playing tonight? Listening to the broadcast always makes my night. Another....Jack jackety jack!
  24. Errecart did kinda have the rep as being a bit streaky in college, if I remember my BFN scouting report correctly. Or do we think his recovery from that injury may be hindering him a bit? Although the recent surge in that line up did occur around the time he started playing again.
  25. I think the leash for Gamel will be looooonnnnnng. He's got a good bat, so they will stick with him. The light will go on eventually if they stick with a kid. That's why they're in the minors - to learn and grow. No one is a polished player when they sign. Rickie Weeks and Prince Fielder were terrible defenders in the minors, but they worked hard and now they're pretty good. In fact Weeks is looking almost above average on his D this year.
