  1. I would think Darren Ford would be a better comparison to Tony Gwynn.
  2. Ruben Mateo. He should be gone from Huntsville with Brantley and/or Darren Ford promoted from WV, but it looks like a full year at Brevard for Cain and Gillespie would be best. As some asked the other day, what the heck's wrong with Femaint? Looks like all the outfielders will stay put this year, unless we get somone lighting it up in Helena, and they barge their way in.
  3. Clutch hitting by Brantley and Mojica for the Power and E.J. Shanks aka: "The Knuckle Scraper" with another save for WV. Darren Ford ignites the winning rally.
  4. Has anyone noticed that Taylor Green has been on fire this season? Angel Salome with another good night. Brent Brewer with a couple of hits again, and Drew Anderson with 4 hits.
  5. Not to hi-jack the thread, but where did you hear that the Brewers were going after an outfield bat? We've got 6 good MLB outfielders now, with Nix trapped in AAA. I agree with the NYC hype notion. Cabrera seems quite average.
  6. Salome with a jack each game. Heating up a bit.
  7. We at BFN continue to be spoiled rotten. Thanks - as always - for this great stuff.
  8. Cool. - Way cool. Is there anyone other than Haydel that they may interested in signing?
  9. Nothing wrong actually. Just knocking off some rust. He started out with way worse than these numbers. The last two weeks he has started to heat up pretty well. 2 hits last night.
  10. Dominic James will withdraw before the draft. No way will he stay if his projection is 2nd round. Heck he did even get invited to the predraft camp. 58 others did. Yi would be nice.
  11. Anyone notice that Yohannis Perez is now above the Mendoza line and slowly creeping higher? 2 more his tonight.
  12. No way do you give up on a player that young so soon. Slow down with the expectations will ya? If the Brewers listened to this site, we'd have a whole team of DH's right now. This site has had this exact same thread for Rickie Weeks, Prince Fielder, Corey Hart, Kevin Mench. Heck even J.J. Hardy had one. Now it's Ryan Braun and Mat Gamel. They are in the minors to develop into major league players, nothing more. The only way to do it is with lots of innings and learninmg by making lots of mistakes.
  13. Good night for Ford - again. Keep him there, dominating. I know I'm in the minority, but I'm all for letting a kid develop at his own pace, even if it's not as fast as we might like it to be.
  14. First name I look for in the minor league stats every night is Ford. I even scrapped with the Power 50 authors a bit over him a couple of times. His X rated speed makes him a fascinating prospect.
  15. Wow Brent Brewer. Nice night so far into the 7th.
  16. Juan Pierre has not a lick of power and is making millions. TGJ is young enough that the power will come as his body matures. He'll be fine.
  17. I for one am not the least bit worried about Gwynn's lack of power. Plenty of very effective players in the majors right now whose game is based on speed and defense. I never understood the concern, quite frankly, as it has not detered at all his ability to reach the majors.
  18. 3 scoreless for Roque Mercedes. A flicker of promise?
  19. I don't disagree with your assesment, he probably could have done the same in BC. I'm such a huge Ford fan, that I guess I was glad they are taking baby steps with him. To me it was more of a compliment that they valued his potential so much that they were willing to be patient, and let his speed game grow at its own pace. Gillespie is a touch older than Ford with CWS experience, so maybe that had something to do with the jump too. All I know is it's really exciting to see Ford get off to such a good start at WV. He's the first box score I check every night.
  20. Great stuff - as always. I would like to address the Darren Ford comment that he should already be in A+. It looks like he needed to show he could cut down the k's before he moved up. Repeating the year in A, and giving him a chance to excel while he works on making contact seems like it is working out for him. Ford may move up later this year, but right now letting him have a big year while he keeps improving on making contact may help him big time.
  21. Darren Ford with a hit and 2 walks so far. If he can just spend this year working on plate discipline, and cutting down those k's, he has a chance, with that off the chart speed.
  22. Listened to the Power game tonight. With Ford, Brewer, Caufield and Brantley at the top of the order - these guys can RUN. 2 bunt hits, runners in motion all the time, it was pretty cool to listen to. Braddock and Periard were really strong tonight, except for the time Periard threw to 1st with the runner not being held on. But he came right back and shut that inning down. Impressive.
  23. Gee, I got it fine. I hope it's just a one day thing for you. It has happened every now and then that a game will "disappear" , but they usually correct it right away.
  24. DRays only chance to compete one day is to keep minor leaguers down as long as possible and bring up a solid core to keep together for 6 years. Baseball America says DRays are the team to beat in 2010. They are putting together a monster core of starting pitching.
