  1. Just wish someone would have asked him if he offered to do a DNA test, as Munson reported, or if his attorneys were able to replicate the results of the positive test, as Carroll reported. Great job by Braun though.
  2. Munson said on the radio that it was actually sitting on the guy's desk for two days. We've also heard basement. Also not sure exactly how relevant this is, but Munson says the collector is a part-timer and he does this on the side. Works in a hospital otherwise. Then again, if he works in a hospital lab you'd think he'd be qualified to do this sort of thing.
  3. Excellent point. As we've learned through Lester Munson and Will Carroll's interviews this morning, it's not just that it was sitting around for a while. Braun's attorneys were actually able to replicate the results, which is huge. Also, don't forget that Lester Munson reported that Braun offered to do a DNA test to show that the urine wasn't his, and MLB said no.
  4. Thanks for the thorough analysis as always. However, I read the JDA to say that the written opinion does not need to be issued for another 30 days after the panel's "award" (decision). So I don't think finalizing the written opinion would necessarily hold up the announcement of the decision. That said, maybe in this case they want to have the opinion ready before the decision is announced because of the unusual circumstances involved - current MVP, test result leaked, etc.
  5. The joint drug agreement just says that the panel "shall make all reasonable efforts to close the record at such time so as to permit an Award to issue within 25 days following the opening of the hearing." The way I read this is that there is no 25-day "hard" deadline for them to issue a decision, although it is obviously strongly preferred. So I don't see an argument for Braun to say they have to drop it just b/c the 25 days are up.
  6. It would be funny if it turns out the delay is just because the arbitrator was on vacation for a few weeks.
  7. Hope you're right on both counts. I don't mind waiting if the result is no suspension.
  8. From Jon Heyman on Twitter: "braun arbitrator wont be inhibited by usual 25-day limit. so decision not necessarily expected by sunday." No further explanation.....
  9. As Haudricourt pointed out on twitter, this doesn't say much for Cleveland's view of LaPorta
  10. You can't honestly think that the Rangers are concerned that Hamilton is gonna go back to being addicted to heavy drugs do you? They should be at least somewhat concerned. As today's news shows, he could relapse at any time. Maybe it's just a minor slip-up and he'll be okay, but they have to at least think about how much they want to invest in a guy with his history.
  11. I stayed at the Omni William Penn when I went to the Packer/Steeler game in 2009. Very reasonable as I recall and it's walking distance to the stadiums. I think I booked it through Hotels.com or a similar site to get a good rate. I want to say it was like $150 a night, or maybe even less. I think Primanti Bros. is a little overrated, but try one at the game. Someone else mentioned Churchbrew, which I agree is pretty cool if you are really into beer. The casino (right by Heinz Field) is weird - virtual dealers.
  12. I guess, but that also leads to the question of why Braun's test wasn't tossed as well. Maybe with the other two guys, their second test didn't come back positive for synthetic T? Or maybe this is all BS.
  13. I guess that's one possibility, although we know so little it's hard to say if the names of these other two players have even leaked out. And if the names of the players has leaked to the clubs, I would think that rumor would have found its way to the Internet by now. And we really don't even know if this thing about the other two guys is true. The reasons for Fielder not signing yet are pretty simple. He was competing with Pujols. The traditional big spenders (NYY, BOS, and ANA) are set at 1B, another potential big spender (LAD) is in a very unusual financial predicament, and the Cubs are rebuilding. Plus, Boras/Fielder are asking for a very long contract for huge money, for a guy who may be limited to DH duty in 4-5 years. Plus, no one wanted to make an offer for fear that Boras would just shop it around.
  14. Slight clarification by DP today: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/137973623.html DP says Braun may be found "not guilty" as opposed to "innocent." I suppose if the attack is on the testing process itself and raises enough questions about its legitimacy to overturn the suspension, then that's probably a better description. I don't think Haudricourt's guess at the disinction makes sense. Even if Braun took something unknowingly, he'd still be guilty.
  15. Same here. We've been hearing so many tidbits that seem inconsistent with each other. Like, if it was something resulting from a medical condition, then how did he test positive for "artificial" testosterone? How do you get artifical T in your system without having taken a PED? And isn't artificial T a PED all by itself? And why was the I Luv You not listed in Ludwig's records? And if it was, did he know about it? And if he didn't, who did? And ... where the hell was I?
  16. Here is the one that talks about the two other players whose numbers were also "higher than normal" and "a little out of whack" Summarizing the different clips from Dan Patrick we get this - 2 other guys had odd results - not medical - not a masking agent - not a PED - The appeal seems focused on the testing process - Source is part of the case - who knows if that means he is part of Braun's team or no Ok, thanks. It's all very weird. I'm still not optimistic that he'll get it overturned, but it's something. Somehow I don't think we'll ever get the full story of what really happened, however this turns out.
  17. By the way, what is the source on this report that two other Brewers tested positive for elevated T? I listened to the clip and I did not hear that part.
  18. I take this as a good sign, especially in combination with the Dan Patrick report. If the case were cut and dried, I would think it would be a quicker decision. Maybe this means that Braun's attorneys at least gave the arbitrators a lot to think about.
  19. RR seems to be great at handling the players and personalities. His managerial strategy can be baffling though. I thought Ned Yost was the only manager who would let a pitcher bat, and then pull him from the game before the next inning. IMO, he also gets way too stuck on making sure everyone has a strictly defined role, which leads to things like Kotsay batting third when Braun is out, and having Loe (and now K-Rod) as the "8th inning guy" regardless of who is coming up to bat. Leaving Narveson in to face at least Kelly Johnson to start the 8th would have made sense. Maybe they pinch hit for Johnson, but then at least you're making the D-Backs use another bench player.
  20. Just out of curiosity, what do you consider to be a good ERA for a starting pitcher? In this case I just looked at years with an ERA+ of 100 or better. Usually average starter ERA is significantly higher than league average ERA so if you can do a 100 ERA+ you generally had a pretty good year. Ok, let's go with ERA+, but let's also not count the years where barely pitched. If you look at years where he's actually pitched at least 100 innings, he has exactly 2 years out of 8 with an ERA+ over 100. In the vast majority of his years, he's been below average. He didn't just have bad years in NY. He had bad years for the Expos, Florida and Cleveland. I'll give you that he's probably more talented than Suppan, and has a higher ceiling. But he only seems to reach that ceiling in contract years.
  21. Carl Pavano has had two good years out of 12. Paying him big money is a huge mistake. I hope they don't overpay just to do "something."
  22. I've been to: County Stadium Miller Park Fenway Old Yankee Old Comiskey New Comiskey Wrigley Old Busch Shea Camden Yards RFK Nationals Park Veteran's Stadium PNC Dolphins Stadium Chase Field Dodger Stadium Angel Stadium Candlestick Skydome Metrodome Tiger Stadium Comerica Park Coors Field My favorite is still Fenway, although Coors and PNC were pretty great as well. Tiger Stadium was pretty cool too. The Metrodome was by far the worst.
  23. Melky wouldn't have been any cheaper since the Yankees wanted the Brewers to pay a bunch of Cameron's salary. Cameron is gone after this year anyway so Melvin can spend that money however he wants.
  24. I believe it was mainly one of the St. Louis writers (and the TV guys) but I recall a couple of the players commenting last year that they wouldn't do something like that. The Pirates announcers were also complaining about it a few weeks ago. One of them was kind of snickering at the claim that it was Mike Cameron's tribute to his dad - as if the Brewers were making that up. How insane is that? Why in all of God's green goodness would a team make up a fake story about the reason they untuck their shirts after games. So that they could secretly taunt the other team without their knowledge? Seriously? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!
