  1. My girlfriend likes the bobbles, so if that's an excuse to go to Sunday games I'm okay with it. I'm hoping they don't limit it because we usually take a shuttle in around 1245, so we wouldn't be one of the first 20k. So, I for one, would not go to as many Sunday games (with the gf anyways).
  2. 2nd basemen that can stick are a bit more challenging to find.
  3. I love Gomez...but it's silly that they have him leading off and have Lucroy batting 6 or 7 or whatever.
  4. The Brewers have $1 hot dog/soda days as well. $1 hot dog days? This year? I was at one. So they did it at least once. They were small and cheap, but wasn't bad.
  5. Reed has been screwed out of 3 strikes in the last two batters. It's time for automated strike zones.
  6. Haha. He probably thought he was coming off like a big dog, but he actually sounds like such sour grapes. Too funny.
  7. I did not know that and that is quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever heard about replay. You'd think MLB replay was run by the government it is so inept. To be fair, I read that was the rule on an espn article...so take it for what it's worth.
  8. What's more frustrating is that they were also the beneficiary of a weird infield fly rule in the playoffs, and an obstruction call in the World Series. They seem to run into these weird situations that tend to favor them more than most.
  9. The rule is dumb anyways. Umpires have to request a challenge after the 6th, unless you have a challenge. How dumb does that sound?
  10. Like, keep your eye on the ball? :p Jk, I hope he's okay.
  11. I personally do believe players can rise up to a situation more often or not. Whether you call that clutch...I don't know. Perhaps it shows up more at lower levels when nerves can get to a person, but I do think the way a persons body reacts can affect their performance. I found this quote that I thought was interesting. According to psychologist Tim Woodman, "when people are low in cognitive anxiety, or low in worry, the difference between their best performance and their worst performance is not very big. They can perform pretty well, but it's not fantastic, and it's not crap. But if you put them in a very high-worry situation, like Olympic Games, what you find is that their best performance is significantly better than before and their worst performance is significantly worse. So what that tells you is that when you're under a very high-stress situation, you either perform very well or very badly."
  12. Last night, Ortiz received the phone that he broke in the visiting dugout at Camden a few years back. Thought that was pretty funny. On an unrelated note I find it slightly amusing that this guy gets a send off and everyone seemingly loves him even though his name once popped up on a PED list and he said some pretty dicey things about the situation...unless I'm misremembering. No one raked him over the coals.
  13. I did enjoy one of his video games he created though...so I let him slide. YOU were the one? Haha...I know I know. Not shockingly my 10$ worth of rentals didn't help his company survive.
  14. Does it matter? Half the people doing those jobs are just retired professional players. And most are terrible at it.
  15. I didn't think you were knocking Carter. I just think the difference between a strikeout and any other out is minimal. Imo outs are outs.
  16. He is good at hitting home runs. We know that. Do you acknowledge his short comings ever? I'm notnsure I've ever seen it.
  17. I always like Maddon. I agree with him too.
  18. I did enjoy one of his video games he created though...so I let him slide.
  19. Both sports have international world championships. The Hockey World Cup starts this weekend. True, but the hockey world cup is slightly different set-up.
  20. http://disciplesofuecker.com/domingo-santanas-efficiency/24075 Here is an article that touches on some of these things.
  21. If they do it for 1 year or 2 would they be considered a star? Honest question. I think he will be productive with a few great years. That was kind of my point in using the OPS numbers. I didnt mean to imply otherwise.
  22. I guess I don't get too riled up about strikeouts. Is a player better if he gets conservative with 2 strikes and grounds out instead? Not if there is someone on first. So let's take an example I have seen our players do all year. Chris Carter doing what feels like on a weekly basis: Chris Carter walks up to the plate with a man on third just one out....annnnnnnnd strikeout. Whoops wish he could have grounded out or hit a fly ball to score a run. Instead scoreless inning in the end. I know people in the game threads hate when we try to play small ball getting a guy over to third with one out. They say it never works for us this year. Reason being is because this team strikes out so much no one ever actually puts the ball in play. An out is not just an out. Base runners are not just base runners. Such comments make me want to cringe. They are all not created equal. We can do what ifs all we want. Maybe that ground ball is hit right to the 3rd baseman or that fly ball isnt deep enough. A guy either makes an out or gets on base. So, to me...an out is an out. Ill take the guy that gets on base most often, but thats just me. EDIT: I was curious so I went to check out CC and KD with runners on 3rd less than 2 out and Davis has done a great job in this department. I also believe there is a thing as being clutch, so perhaps KD does better in those spots for that reason, or maybe it is just a super small sample size.
  23. I guess I don't get too riled up about strikeouts. Is a player better if he gets conservative with 2 strikes and grounds out instead? Not if there is someone on first. Same. Just for some fun with numbers - This years team has 1382 strikeouts thus far compared to 1299 last year. This years team has 555 walks with a 325 OBP thus far compared to 412 and 307 last year. We may strikeout more, but we get on base at a better clip. That seems like a fine trade off to me.
