  1. He got in today after 2PM so I guess you'll see him tomorrow
  2. Yeah only 900. My boys did it we actually pitched a no-hitter and won 1-0, scored in the first. 900 more to go.We go to the quarterfinals on Tuesday, another 90+ arm. We actually saw 93 todayAlso Angel goes to Huntsville tomorrow, good luck Angel, get all the way back!!!!"Coach"
  3. Actually, I never mentioned it, it was others who did, I always said he could play another position though, but maybe it is a good idea. He probably would relax more and worry more about pounding the ball and not running a pitching staff, just an idea. Don't know what the brass would think about it. I guarantee he'd be pretty damn good at it, he's a worker. I think he was born to catch but fate is a funny thing isn't it? I played outfield my whole life but my career took a turn because of my strong arm and ended as a pitcher. It happens. And fortunately he mashes so it opens more possibilities. Going for my 900th win today, single elimination, tough team 91 arm against us whom Ive coached and my best friend on the other bench whom I coach with in the Fall and beginning of each summer before I leave for USA or All American Team baseball. Should be interesting and I dont want to wait til March to win that one game!!!! "Coach"
  4. I don't worry about Angel's unorthodox swing. We could have changed it in high school and each year talk about it in the off season, he has such great plate coverage even with his sort stature, and phenomenal hand/eye. His hitting has never nor will ever be a problem, and by the way he has not caught yet but hit 2 home runs yesterday, he hits in his sleep (but dont ever ask him how he does it!!) I think a position change to outfield would really help as well, he could probably do it too, he'd get his speed back and has a cannon and wouldnt have to be involved in every pitch every minute, he could eat sunflower seeds and lok around in the crowd once in awhile, just a thought!!! "Coach"
  5. He's got to play in AZ first, make sure he can function with meds, then I guess they will move him. My guess would be a few games at various levels and ending at AAA unless Zaun is back and Lucroy goes back to Nashville, then I dont know what they will do.
  6. Angel is doing fine and actually might play today as DH and will start playing for sure on Monday.Congrats to Lucroy on a well deserved promotion, just shows you gotta be in the right place at the right time and of cause have some talent too. Hope to see angel with you real soon.We clinched an undefeated season today after being tied at 14-0 and playing Thomas yesterday and today to both 3-1 games, today in 11. Next stop playoffs and another Championship"Coach"
  7. I'll see him tomorrow. He's coming by before our game and before he leaves on Tuesday. I'l pass on your thoughts"Coach"
  8. Guys"Anxiety" is not caused by one thing or one person, it is like depression and any other illness, it develops over time. angel does not worry about losing his job or anybody up his back, he gives all he can and worries about himself. If you knew him you would see he is a class act and a religious kid, he just wants to succeed and works hard. He didn't worry about Palmissano nor Lucroy. He likes Lucroy and has told me nice things about him. His problem is something that has taken time to develop and who know the root? He needs to get his correct meds and be able to play while on them. The ADD medication made it worse not better, it had an adverse effect and made him not concentrate, he even lost his release point at one time. He'll be fine and truly wants to be a Brewer and is thankful for the support and wants to repay the fans and organization with a great career. when he gets back he will have to deal with whatever the catching situation is. We actually talked about him playing some outfield (not because of any other catchers in the organization) because it might allow him to relax more and not have to be so intense every pitch of every inning on defense and even in between pitches. He is a great athlete as I said, he has run 6.6 in HS and really isn't that far off that speed. He was slowed after the ankle injury but this winter he was running great and even had a stolen base (but over ran the base and was tagged out) so that is a possibility if the organization and he want to go that way, but you guys have a LOTTTT of OF prospects including Gamel. We shall see what happens, he leaves on Tuesday."Coach"
  9. Thanks to all i will pass on all your thoughts to him. He is actually leaving on tuesday, he gets to spend a few days with HIS little angel."Coach"
  10. Actually, Lucroy is the golden boy now, that was not a dig or a snide remark. He is doing great, says the right things and shuts up and plays. I said that was what Angel did when Palmissano was in the mix. I actually root for Lucroy, he seems like a great kid and every time I read about him he seems humble and dedicated. There are no hard feelings, competition is great. The comment that bothered me was when someone said Angel was out perfecting walking on water. Angel will be fine in a few weeks, he just has to get the right medication and make sure he can concentrate and perform with them, no big deal. He was trying to play without medication, his ADD medication was perpetuating his condition, not fixing it, making it difficult to concentrate. Try catching in AAA or anywhere when your heart is pumping 100 miles an hour and you cant concentrate as well. It caused him to lose his release point etc. He understands all that and is working to correct it. I hope we see both Lucroy and A.ngel in the big leagues soon, as what roles they will play, who knows? but they are both great talents, no doubt!!!
  11. Firstly.; Angel had a baby boy (Angel) on Wed.The baby and his wife Johanica are home and doing fine. Secondly; what Angel is going through is not a phase or something that has been building up, it is a condition and several players as well as the general populace has or has had. Dontrelle Willis, Zack Grienke and to a worser extent Khalil Greene all suffered or suffer. Angel is addressing the problem and going to AZ to get back and healthy. It's not him worrying about Lucroy or anything else said on this website, it's a chemical condition like so many other conditions you and your family and friends may suffer from. Do you make fun of people with depression, OCD or any other condition?? Angel will be fine and wants to play ball, he truly does, it was evident by how hard he worked this off season. My advice to all of you is to forget about Angel and concentrate on Lucroy, your golden boy, he's your future. Angel will do what he has to do and get back on track. If he has to go to AA or even A ball to get back that's ok too. He will be a great major league catcher either in the Brewers organization or somewhere else, just don't jump on the bandwagon. I saw it when Angel came up, he had "Captain Lou" in front of him and pushed him out and you guys killed Palmisano while Angel was the next great thing, now in most people's eyes the tide has turned and Angel is the Devil and Lucroy the future, that's Ok too, just support Lucroy and forget about Angel until he is back and playing well again. I do know regardless of what was said or written, the Brewers are supporting and backing Angel, which says and means a lot, you should too. He'll be in Arizona for a few weeks and then back in the groove. Remember when he was suspended for taking ADD medication and people said and still do, that it was steroids, things aren't always what they appear sometimes and people in the know, usually know!! Angel is a great kid and a great team mate he will be wonderful for any organization he ends up with on the major league level, I and he sure hope it's Milwaukee where he has spent his whole pro career and always wanted to play for.Go Lucroy, he's doing well and hope he continues. We'll see you in a few weeks. And congratulations to Angel for his new baby boy, his strength to admit his problems and his strength to move on and get help and for being honest. "COACH"
  12. Yeah, I saw that mistake. Rafael Gonzalez was taken in the 4th round that year. and Angel in the 5th. Might have 3 this year. (Antonio, Bautista LHP and Martinez 2b- closer)Mikey is special and will be a sky rocket kid through the system (that picks him) He will be a 1st round pick regardless of what people say, he is just too good and has a very high ceiling. He is like his idol Hanley, a little like Escobar but I think Mikey has more pop potential as he continues to fill out..We have 2 sophomores Fernelys Sanchez (the kid I got laughed at on this site when I said he will run 6.1) is now down to 6.4 but hasn't played this season with a broken hand for 2 more weeks and our beast catcher Nelson Rodriguez.
  13. Another 1,2,3 inning with 1 K
  14. Villar pitched a perfect 1,2,3 inning, his first inning of the Spring.
  15. Not with one 22 year old with little experience. They have no pitching, guess that's why they put him on the fast track
  16. Actually as a starter. He gets up to 94 and great Maddox like control. When he gets bigger and stronger he'll hit upper 90's. He's good. We have another one now, a junior who will explode onto the national scene this summer as he will be playing with Bobby Valentine's All american team with another of our Soph. studs. I will be coaching that team for a short while in between Team USA stuff, my local New york Nine and Europe stuff. I sure hope Henry is read for the show, he seems quite raw and a little untested, but when you throw strikes and have command, it helps a heap.!!!
  17. No not about Angel, although he is doing great so far and feeling great. We are pleased to announce another GW grad (Henry Villar)who actually pitched Angel's senior year 2004 was just given a ML contract. Amazing for a 150 pound guy (soaking wet) who played A ball last year was put on the 40 man during the winter and after 3 days of Spring Training was aded to the Astros pitching rotation. Expect to see a whole bunch more in the next few years, they're coming on strong and our young guys are the best bunch ever!!!! Hope you get to see Angel this Spring and report back to me as to what you see. Our season starts in a few weeks so I wont get to see him this Spring, I might see his new born before he does.
  18. I can't wait either. I can see what he's doing, indoors granted, (although it was almost 60 degrees yesterday and we went outside,) but he looks awesome and he is psyched and ready. He's going early to Spring Training because he's got ants in his pants to start. I've said all along said that he was a very good defensive catcher. Somehow he was labeled with needing to work on "D" so it stuck and everybody picked up on it consequently he believed it himself and at times I did too, so with that all behind we can all move forward and see what he brings to the table. If it's not good enough, then we have all been fooling ourselves. Anyway I sure hope to get to a few days of Spring Training but our season starts March 12 and we play about 50 games so we're playing every day, it might be difficult. Hope to see you there or more so in Miller Park, (or wherever.)Later"Coach"
  19. Don't worry about his at bats. DR was not about that. He was going to DH a bit and then catch but it worked out better for many reasons for him to work his butt off, away from here, a new prospective and get to warm weather. One of the Brewers coaches told me last month that he can hit on Christmas Day without hitting for 2 months and rake like anybody, so we all know that is not the problem (although his mechanics kill me) Everyone was +*+%@%$' about his defense, well, what ever it was, it's fixed, and big time. Just wait, be patient, give everyone in the picture a fair shot. "Coach"
  20. Angel's main purpose to go to DR was to work with Alberto Castillo, which he did. All reports are that things went great. He's back and BETTER THAN EVER. He is rejuvenated, psyched and cant wait to get going. I just wish everybody from today on forgets everything in the past, good and bad, preconceived and realistic thoughts, ideas and opinions and let everything start all over as soon as Spring training begins. Angel will be going out early and I promise you he will be something like you've never seen before, he will be the complete package, guaranteed. Just be patient and after spring training is in full swing, ask around, go see him and then talk about him like he's a new kid on the block. If The Brewers didn't sign Zaun he would most like win that starting job, but who knows now? AAA, back up with little playing time in ML? Can't wait to see what happens. But believe me, he is unbelievable right now. Next to go for GW will be Mike Antonio, looks like a first rounder SS like Hanley, his idol, a 5 tool guy. Im not a Yankee fan but it would be great to go to Yankees and replace Jeter in a few, same make up, great big heart, super kid and a world of talent, keep an eye on him throughout the season. "Coach" 32SM
  21. In the Dominican Republic they play an 18 game round robin which will start in Jan. Angel's team Toros, is guaranteed 18 games, then the top two teams play a best of 7. Expect to see Angel as the starting catcher in most of those games and when not, DHing. But yeah I see how winter ball can be a drag for a lot of players; Happy Hollidays to all. "Coach"
  22. Yeah, he's there. He has been working with Alberto Castillo. He was going to DH but it looks like he will start behind the plate as of tomorrow. "Coach"
  23. Just came across this....... And as I had a home visit with a cross checker with my SS the other day, he has been in the business over 20 years and says the same about his arm... You had to see it to believe it... and I think this year you will again... 136 ANGEL SALOME GEORGE WASHINGTON HS C R/R 5'7" 190 1986-06-08 HS COMMENT: STRONG LIKE BULL. CHISELED BODY. 24. And I agree with you. Gamel should have, and I hope it's not tooolate to be a stud. I saw him a bit, needs more on the mental side of hitting, but just raw talent with a bat, he's awesome, they stymied him. He should have either spent the year in AAA and played everyday or given a legit shot. I hope they don't do that with either catcher, they could get good value on the mound if they plan to bury one of them!! "Coach"
  25. It doesn't make sense to move a young kid from AA to MLB unless you plan on starting him, 50-60 games is not enough, it might stunt his growth. If the move Angel to that spot and then they give Lucroy a promotion, Lucroy would probably be the starter and Angel backing up in the future, but to move Lucroy to MLB from AA to sit and learn makes no baseball sense, let him play everyday and grow (AAA?) If Angels backing up skill this year aren't good then flip flop them. Also you have many options so if Kattaras is still around then I guess Angel goes to AAA. Where does that leave Lucroy? Can't go back to AA. Again I think one might be moved unless it's Kattaras and Angel backs Zaun!!!! We shall see, and if you get a chance watch Angel on ESPN Deportes on Tues and tell me what you think, but he wont be catching and will certainly be rusty the first few games!! "Coach"
