  1. FSN gave us a shot of Gamel there in the on deck circle, and I got excited, only to see Gonzalez stroll up. I knew the batting order, but had some momentary amnesia, followed by that twinge of disappointment.

  3. Yeah, it's odd that there's just nothing. Not even an away feed. That said . . . "Nyjer normally wears his knickers up to his kneecaps . . . today, he's wearing them . . .pajama-style . . ." I do love me some Uke.

  5. Seen them already, but I do love the Blue Jays retro-reversion.
  6. A grass bullpen? Is that common? (I haven't been to a ton of parks) http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7037/6963510753_ec4e7fae8c.jpg

  8. I, too, think that's hilarious. That said, it seems like there are plenty of times when announcers and broadcasters struggle to come up with the names of guys in camp, or make jokes about not knowing who some guy is or whatever, and . . . I don't always get it. Yeah, there are a lot of guys in camp, but it's not like they're calling up Tom Berenger from the Mexican League. These are guys that are in big league camp. There are 14 non-roster invitees, which means in addition to the 40-man there are 54 total in Brewers camp, or exactly one more guy than on a regular-season NFL roster. Is it really that hard to remember who that guy at the bottom of the roster is? This doesn't really upset me that much, it's just a head-scratcher, because it really just doesn't seem like THAT many guys.
  9. Sounds like he's doing well and has found an organizational atmosphere that works for him. Me-first players can be really, really successful when they have a team that is willing to keep them happy and when their natural skills are enough to pull them through. It's a very narrow track, though, and it doesn't take much to send things flying off the rails (see: Randy Moss, late-career T.O., Ryan Leaf, Milton Bradley, and many more). I appreciate that Doug Melvin recognized that the Brewers' organization would've had to make some significant accommodations for Lawrie to reach his potential here and that he judged the benefit of those accommodations (a shot at a star infielder) to not be worth their costs (lots of special treatment for a me-first player who might not pan out and is almost certain to be a negative clubhouse guy at some point). If Lawrie achieves a bunch of success in Toronto, my opinion is that the success can't just be transposed into the Brewers' lineup for purposes of later trade analysis. This article indicates that the organizations are just too different to make that sort of comparison possible.

  12. In the second half of the season last year, I moved from Madison to Atlanta. I was able to enjoy a couple of games at Turner Field and I've got a couple of tickets to one of the games in the upcoming Brewers-Braves series in April. But for whatever reason, just tonight, it hit me like a ton of bricks that I'm not going to be able to go to games at Miller Park anymore (at least, not at all regularly). I used to routinely snag tickets last-minute for April and May games, drive over on a weeknight with a friend or two and watch the Brewers. Boy, do I already miss that place. With the start of the season coming, it's seriously heart-wrenching.
  13. That's one of the funnier things I've seen in a long time.
  14. pebadger explained this earlier. The test that measures for synthetic T doesn't mean it actually was. Not to mention, it seems like the discussion has bottomed out at "If he's actually guilty, then he got off on a technicality." Which, I guess, is true. You can make as many other-crime juxtapositions as you want. It's also true that if he's innocent it's fantastic that he was able to convince Shyam Das to that he should not still be suspended. We don't know. We also don't know why we don't know (as we have so few facts in general that we cannot effectively judge the cost-benefit of Braun or anyone releasing the information). I'm hoping he plays baseball well this year and helps the Brewers be successful.
  15. The U.S. Men's Indoor Track team won the 4x400 relay today at the Indoor World Championships, then were disqualified for "exchanging positions before take-over" (??) and then were reinstated for gold after an appeal. Anyone with T&F experience know what "exchanging positions before take-over" means? http://sports.yahoo.com/top/news?slug=ap-worldindoors-disqualification
  16. It's the good ol' bully theory. The real purpose is to make that person feel better and maybe "impress" some friends. Sound childish? Yep.
  17. There is at least one thread in OT about this if you want more detail. I love my Apple TV because of the integration with my other Apple devices (iPhone, 2 MacBooks, iPod), but if you're less concerned about that, a Roku offers most of the same features plus more (Hulu Plus, for example).
  18. I have Premium MLB.TV and I'm able to watch the game right now through my Apple TV. It should give you the same access. Have you given it a try?
  19. The broadcast I'm seeing on MLB.TV is from the Bay Area. It'd make sense if MLB Network blacked out the broadcast for them and not for the Brewers' home area, but maybe it's one of those situations where since FSN had the rights to broadcast and chose not to, it's still blacked out. Doesn't make much sense that it's blacked out in AZ though, unless that's temporarily considered part of Brewers home territory. It's all silly. The only reason I get to watch the game is because I knew I'd be purchasing MLB.TV here in Atlanta. Nevermind - I hope everyone gets to watch.
  20. Is there some ridiculous blackout restriction? It's on MLB.TV.
  21. Don't believe so. I recall Uke saying on his sign-off yesterday that they'd next be on-air on Tuesday.
  22. A new post from Tom H regarding MLB's response to confidentiality questions. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/141358073.html It's nothing unexpected. This is just part of MLB's PR play on the situation - they need to make the case that the leak was isolated and the best way for them to do so is to effectively say "Hey, it wasn't us, this is Braun's problem. He can do what he wants about it." You can choose whether to take their word for it or not. Tom continues to say, pretty definitively, that the leak "came from someone whom the Braun defense team talked to in preparing their case," which is an implication that MLB was out of the picture, but it's impossible to say for sure.
  23. First lineup card of the year (sort of), and I'm guessing the left side is the current RHP starters. http://mlb.socialhub.awarenessnetworks.com/main/content/?id=8655300367381813218&partnerId=aw-8655300367381813218-1052 (also, nice touch with Aoki).
  24. Jim Caple is basically a comedic writer who happens to focus his material on sports. Nothing much to see here. If it means anything to anyone, he has often had very good things to say about Milwaukee, the Brewers and Miller Park.
  25. I think that's a fair prediction. In fact, I'm really surprised to hear that he's making a statement at all. I see no benefit to this guy trying to go to the media to "clear his name" or something. Better to draw as little attention to yourself as possible and just talk about it in court if necessary. Pure speculation, but I wonder if it's really WADA/USADA using him as a mouthpiece and pushing him out into the open a bit more.
