  1. Folks, you gotta remember that while its true its not his arm or shoulder, it is his pitching hand...and since Ben's best out pitch is a sharp-breaking, 12-6 curveball, this kind of injury worries me, and it should worry others as well. Without a good curve, Ben's fastball is as hittable as anyone else's. If there is the slightest discomfort there as Ben throws that pitch, then Ben isn't going to be nearly as effective. Likewise, he might be technically out for 3-4 starts, but how many will he need to shake the rust off? Just look at Capuano...he hasn't been the same since his trip to the DL. I think we all need to prepare ourselves for a six week or more trip. All Im saying is that while it might be a nice, warm-fuzzy feeling to see Manny Parra and Yo pitch more, its NEVER good when your ace goes down. Never. And not when the playoff push is just starting to begin.
  2. Cappy looked pretty pissed and surprised at the booing the fans gave him. Looked like he had a look of betrayal from the fans on his face. When you generally pitch like crap for a calendar year, I think most fans have the right to be upset.
  3. How come it seems like just about every time our offense puts up a big inning, our pitcher the very next inning gives up most or all of the lead he just received? I agree with the previous post...Capuano for the most part has pitched poorly since the all-star break last year. Its starting to be pennant race time here, and this team cant afford these kind of performances every time he goes out there.
  4. You can't cherry pick starts or pull out a bad inning and say without that so and so pitcher would then have this lower ERA instead. Look through the game logs of most starting pitchers over a season or even half a season and you usually will find a terrible start that inflates their ERA.If you pull that bad start out or a few bad starts out for all,you lower the ERA for every starting pitcher in the game. I understand your point...all I was trying to say is that Suppan has a 4-ish ERA against National League competition, which is who he is going to make all but three of his starts against this season. The bottom line is this...you cant label Suppan a bust halfway into his first season of a four-year contract, just like you can't label Carlos V as a future ace because of 60 solid innings out of the bullpen.
  5. His problem is the spot he's hitting in the order. They can afford to throw him breaking pitch after breaking pitch with the pitcher batting behind him. The problem isn't his spot in the order. The fact that he gets thrown breaking ball after breaking ball is because the book is out on Rickie that he is a dead-red fastball hitter...always has been. I seem to recall conversations like these about this time last year about a certain shortstop who was struggling at the plate, and look where he is this year. Rickie has hit at every level of ball he has ever played at...he hasn't just "forgotten" how to hit the ball. Right now, its probably just a combination of the wrist injury lingering along with just pressing at the plate.
  6. Not sure if this has been brought up or not, but you gotta remember too that some of Suppan's numbers are skewed by the three interleague starts he made, something that is not uncommon among NL pitchers making starts against AL clubs that sport a DH. If you take out Suppan's three starts against AL teams, his season line reads like this: 7-7, 4.18 ERA, 101 IP, 109 H, 34 BB, 53 K, 1.41 WHIP While the WHIP is still a little higher than you would like, those numbers are suddenly tons more acceptable. Much like Dave Bush, whose overall numbers got totally skewed by one 6-run inning, Suppan's season numbers really got out of whack during that three-start interleague stretch.
  7. This team needs to wake up from the malaise they are in. It seems like whenever this team gains some momentum at home, they go out on the road for a week or week and a half and totally stink up the joint, and give away whatever gains they made on a good homestand. If this team wants to win the division, they need to start playing better on the road, period. They're not gonna win 30 out of 40 at Miller Park in the second half..that kind of pace just doesnt seem doable over a 162 game season. At 18-24, this club now has the fifth worst road record in the NL. I thought that winning on the road was supposed to be a focal point this season !?!?!?!
  8. Yesterday's game was just poorly played, but I kinda figured going in that today's game was probably gonna be a loss...Ian Snell is a highly underrated pitcher for Pittsburgh and their ace, and Vargas is our #5. #1 pitchers are gonna beat #5 pitchers most of the time. The fact that the Brewers got 3 runs early just makes this loss a bit more disappointing.
  9. Damian needs to get more playing time. He just seems to always come up with a big hit when he plays.
  10. We had interesting discussion at a party last week about what to do with Suppan if he becomes the worst pitcher on the staff. I could definately see that happening in the next 2 years with the kids having success AA and above, and Villy already in the pen. Trade bait. As long as he remains at least on the positive side of average, stays healthy, and teams like the Yankees are willing to buy any kind of arms, someone will be desperate enough to trade for him.
  11. It should be reminded to Jeff Suppan that he's getting paid $10 million a year...his stuff better be good enough that he shouldnt have to nibble as much as he does.
  12. No you cant walk the pitcher, but your centerfielder needs to catch that ball, no excuses. The defense has cost Suppan both runs so far.
  13. I, for one, would love to see CoCo strike out the side in the 9th. Of course, I'd settle for three outs without a run crossing the plate, too.
  14. It just gets annoying hearing everyone complain how terrible we are, then stop watching! Because we have been told as fans and paying customers of the Milwaukee Brewers that this team was gonna start WINNING GAMES...not just playing for "moral victories" or to "be competitive" in recent years. This team, from the front office all the way down to the last man in that dugout, told us during the first month of the season that this was the type of team we were gonna see. For years, this organization has said, "be patient". Well, the patience is gone, at least from me. The core players on this team are suppose to be the backbone of this organization for the next few seasons, and yet they play the same like they did in the second half last year. This organization told us that they were gonna play smart, fundamentally sound baseball. Instead, over the past month this team has played some of the worst baseball in the major leagues, and tonights game has proven that this team has also lost it mentally. When we as taxpayers built Miller Park, we were told it was gonna make us competitive again. We are still waiting for the first winning season of Miller Park. This team has won 10 games in a month, and shows no signs of pulling out of it. Forgive me for being critical.
  15. Is it just me, or does Shouse look like he throws underhand, slow-pitch softball? Face it folks, we're bad. Really bad.
  16. Crap. Shoused. Schroeder's right, that balk is totally on Prince. One of the cardinal rules as a first baseman is to not move toward the plate until you know the pitcher is going there.
  17. If this game doesnt get fans worried, I don't know what will. This team's head is somewhere in Russia.
  18. Why does Ned bring in our situational lefty to turn around...NEIFI PEREZ? Yost has completely lost it.
  19. Apparently, Ned and the Brewers think making outs on the bases looks better to the fans than striking out all the time. Lets hit and run on one of the best-throwing catchers in the history of the game. Good strategy Ned!
  20. Prediction: Our 2nd best starter (Villanueva) goes back to bullpen after this start. He's not our second best starter...he's our best middle reliever who was pressed into making an emergency start tonight. Villy right now is invaluable in the pen, and it would be foolish to move him right now. At the start of next season, or if injuries suddenly pop up soon, id be all for it, but outside of Cordero he has been the most consistent bullpen arm all season.
  21. The two pathetic baserunning gaffes in this game show that this team just isn't there mentally.
  22. Cool, another runner to leave in scoring position
  23. Atta boy, CV: 5 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K ...and on the hook for the loss. Good to see the boys pick him up at the plate! Oh, wait...
  24. Whats worse, is that we've now wasted Villanueva basically for the entire Minnesota series for nothing, as the offense is totally screwing this team over again.
  25. Good eye, Prince. Are we sure Jim Skaalen isn't just Butch Wynegar with a facelift and glasses on?
