  1. 24 W's out the #5 spot in the rotation for two teams playing .500 ball at best over the course of 2 years definitely doesn't hurt your chances of making the playoffs
  2. I just meant we will have to see how Villy and Parra hold up over the course of a full season. Vargas had done that - they haven't been tested like that yet. I sincerely hope they do well and we won't have to regret releasing Vargas.
  3. But he's not a #4 or #5 on the Brewers. He is #7. Check around the league and see how many teams are paying $3 million for their 7th best starter. I think that is to be determined...
  4. I hope so - maybe it will make more sense in the upcoming days...
  5. Thank you! Vargas is what he is, but he is more than serviceable at the back end of the rotation and in my opinion is better than most people on here give him credit for and I believe he is going to improve.
  6. There are obviously several different ways to look at this move, but the bottom line is that Doug Melvin and Co. will regret this move at some point during the season - most likely sooner rather than later. Whether it be because we could have used him do to injury etc, because he starts for someone else and has a nice season, or because he signs in the central and helps the Reds or Cards beat us in an important game or two, this move will be regretted!
  7. Gotchya - well the Brew Crew on tv in mid-march at night qualifies as a special occasion to me, so enjoy!
  8. I may be "misremembering" a la Andy Pettite here, but I thought you told me last year that you dont drink?
  9. He was basically throwing all fastballs - just working on his command of that pitch
  10. C'mom man - everyone knows that Sheeter is a battler!
  11. Apparently Bush is trying to OBP his way into the rotation
  12. Ws and Ls are a measure of team performance, not pitching performance For a team, nothing. For a pitcher, plenty Doesn't a team have to win for a pitcher to get a W? Its not like there is no correlation. And yes, I realize Vargas got great run support last year
  13. The guy won twice as many games as he lost last year - I will take that out of a #5 starter any day. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it was typically pretty, but I think he will be a late bloomer and have a solid year. His stuff is fine and it sounds like he is commanding his pitches much better so far.
  14. Record is the most overrated pitching stat there is. Bottom line, what's more important than W's and L's?
  15. Typo. I like Parra but given he has options he will be in AAA. Vargas is garbage I get as frustrated as anyone with Vargas when he nibbles and falls behind people causing his pitch count to be high leading to early exits, but I think he will surprise some people this year. I think you will see better control. I surely don't think a guy that is 29, has above average stuff, and is 43-38 in his career is garbage
  16. Thanks for doing the PBP derflotr
  17. Where is Sheets? And I think Vargas and Parra both have a better shot than Cappy being in the rotation to start the season. Cappy needs to use his option to go down to AAA or extended spring training and work on some things
  18. Yeah he had a good first half in the bull pen until he got overworked.... pitching 2 inning BP sessions..... How fast is he going to get "overworked" when pitching 6-7 innings....instead of 4 innings every every week... His stuff is just like Cappys...below average fastball and lives on the change up.....NEEDS Perfect control... thats why Cappy and Villy...tend to tail off at the end of the year... they get tired their command goes...they then try to work more in over the plate and they dont have the stuff to get people out that way...then they get rocked... I think there is a big difference between getting overworked in the pen (warming up all the time etc) and getting stretched out and getting into a groove starting. I think Villy has a better change up than Cappy.
  19. He does sound more at ease and him and Rock seem more comfortable with each other. I had to laugh though on wed during the webcast when Anderson and Bill were talking about the pitchers for yesterdays game and Anderson in reference to Felix Hernandez starting for Seattlle goes,"wow, there's a blast from the past!" He was obviously thinking of someone other than that Felix Hernandez
  20. I agree with that, I just was hoping that Yost would seem more open minded about the possiblilty of Manny or Villy supplanting one of the 3-headed/5+ era monster of Vargas/Cappy/Bush. Its not like Parra and Villy haven't shown that they are capable of pitching at the major league level. I have nothing against any of those 3 veterans - I would love to see Cappy get back to his old self and I think maybe Bush would be better off in the penProblem is what is the rotation suppose to look like in August and September when Bush and Vargas are gone....and Parra and Villy both have hit their Inning Limits... I really dont want to see Zach Jackson starting every 5th day because Parra pitched his 155th inning by Mid August... I think the wisdom is see what Bush, Cappy, Vargas and Suppan do with a REAL catcher that helps out command type pitchers.. I dont understand why people say Villy has proven himself.....6 starts in 2006 and 6 starts in 2007...with the majority coming against Sept Callups...to me is NOT a track record its a small sample size...and has shown success because there is no real book on him yet... Its no conidence that Suppan, Vargas, Bush and Cappy had their worst years of their career pitching to Estrada last season.... All valid points and I mostly agree with all of that! Although personally, I do believe Villy has established himself. He was lights out in relief last year until he got overworked and I have yet to see him have real poor start.
  21. So much for Cappy getting back to his old self...today at least. I am starting to have my doubts. He always seems to have an inning like this
