  1. Laporta has experience at 1st base in case he has to replace Fielder in a couple years, he has the better frame to supply power without over-swinging, he walks far more frequently and will get in more hitter's counts (Gamel will be swinging at more junk in the majors), he has been more consistently superb before and after becoming a professional. If Laporta is mentally tough and has the will to be great, I like him to be the more valuable Brewer.
  2. I don't follow prospects as much as I used to, now that we don't stink on the major league level. I can read the stats, but can anybody tell me who has the better makeup between Laporta and Gamel? Rickie Weeks had beautiful statistics, but of course his issue is he struggles under pressure.
  3. We can't trade Laporta AND Gamel when Fielder is insistent upon reaching free agency. As a result he'll likely not be a Brewer in 2012 or whatever, and we need one of the two aforementioned players to replace him at 1st and in the middle of the order. Let's not be short-sighted. We're not the Yankees or Red Sox with a ginormous payroll, our farm system needs to be the lifeblood of our team. Bleed us dry and we're yet again a lifeless team in MLB.
  4. The other trade proposal I read from Olney was CC for Laporta + Hardy, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense considering we're making a win-now move, but trading a guy who's en fuego at the plate. I wouldn't part with Escobar and Laporta. Escobar has more value to the Brewers than the Indians probably, because our biggest question might be up the middle. Soon it will be time to abandon all hope for Weeks and Escobar would be a candidate to make the conversion and replace him. The Brewers scout/develop better arguably than anyone in baseball. A top prospect in our system has more value than one on, say, the Cubs. Laporta and a mid-level guy should theoretically be enough for Chocolate Chunk. Laporta will make an impact for 7-8 years for the Indians, while we'll reap the benefits of CC for 1/2. I understand the market is driving up his price, but the second prospect/player in the deal should be one living solely off great potential at best, i.e.: Weeks, Rogers, etc.; or a mid-level guy like Gillespie.
  5. It wasn't that many. You're looking at the one that counts LOB by each player instead of just how many were left on base after each half inning. Alright. Nevertheless though, we had 10 more runners stranded than the Orioles using the same system. Main idea: It was a glaring issue tonight.
  6. 24 runners left on base according to the box score?!?! That must be close to a major league record. I'm not surprised with all of the opportunities they squandered tonight. God, we're so dependent on the long ball. Great or even very good teams can score in a variety of ways.
  7. Was that really necessary? #1. I was aware of that fact and I just miswrote, #2. My point was there was no reason Villy shouldn't have pitched the 8th and Villy's spot not even coming up only solidifies my point.
  8. So if not one extreme, then the other? They are professionals. Fact was Rickie was easily in position to make a catch a middle schooler should make. Kapler should have made at least 1 of the 2 catches on balls that were hit in his direction. There is such thing as sharing blame.
  9. Is there any logical reason to pinch hit for Villanueva when he's dealing and plenty stretched out as a former starter? To an extent we've been Yosted tonight.
  10. 3rd base and nobody out.....unacceptable. Rickie Weeks misplays a line drive right at him through the air....unacceptable....I hope Lawrie converts to a 2nd baseman. It's the little things that kill, gentlemen.
  11. On a related subject, is there any hope left for Carlos Hereaud? He was a player I had an affinity for during his draft. Fast forward three years and he's still not out of low level rookie ball yet. I realize he had issues with his work permit and the lack of activity may have derailed his rhythm. Any positive news regarding Hereaud?
  12. You can never have too many catchers You can never have too many pitchers You can never have too many utility players You can never have too many members of the ground's crew You can never have too many equipment managers You can never have too many hot flight attendants You can never have too many assistants to the traveling secretary You can never have too many sunflower seeds Prince can never have too much tofu
  13. The question is how was that missed if it was a complete tear? The ACL Test I'm sure the trainer (roger caplinger or something is his name i think) has a wife and kids and is a nice guy, but being unable to diagnose a ACL tear between innings is a sign that he is not qualified to do his job. Totally agree. I'm sure he also had the replay of the incident at his disposal, and as a doctor, he should realize that a leg isn't supposed to bend that way. That looked nasty. Gallardo is one tough S.O.B. to be able to shake it off and insist on continuing, but either the trainer or Yost should have stepped in and prevented it. Yost also should have known it's Gallardo's personality is to keep going until someone tells him to stop. His high school coach asked him to throw 10 innings and 170 pitches, or whatever, and as a gamer he gladly obliged. Blaming Yost for the injury is a separate issue almost entirely. It was a dumb decision regardless of how much irreversible damage had already been done.
  14. We're essentially cooked unless we make a move for a near top of the rotation starter. If Attanasio has Dougie near budget, he's going to have to get really creative.
  15. Request for Brian: heart and man-crush smilies.
  16. Classic Dave Bush. Get spotted a multiple run lead and start serving up some taters. Play like a winner today.
  17. Rickie has to start peeling off earlier of those flys to Hart.
  18. Yost always looks like he was botoxed with a permagrit on his face.
  19. Where was the fastball in that at bat? Encarcion atones for his defense somewhat at the plate.
  20. Weeks with another brilliant at bat in the clutch!
  21. I'm hoping to see Craig Counsell bat this inning. I'd even pinch him for Weeks in a clutch situation.
  22. The 3-0 pitch wasn't his fault. That pitch was clearly off the plate. 3-1 was on the corner, at the knees. The pitch was perfect from Harang. With a runner on and 2 outs Rickie should be more aggressive on anything near the zone. 3-2 he swung at the worst pitch of the at bat. Not everything is black and white, 100 percent someone's fault and zero the other. The at bat was partially the Ump's and partially Rickie's typical inability to adjust his approach based on the situation. He basically takes the same approach every time at the plate.....like he's leading off with nobody on base or the Brewers are down 8 runs and we need baserunners any way possible.
  23. We need to draft a college middle infielder in the first round this year. Rickie Weeks is not a winning ballplayer. - Terrible defense - Can't handle the bat - Always been anticlutch He's one of the players most overrated by OPS in the majors....and his career OPS isn't even that great.
  24. The most controversial transactions at Brewerfan are always the monster "Jeff Weaver signs a minor league contract" type. Hey, I'm guilty of being part of the phenomenon myself. If they signed Keith Ginter in any capacity I'd shatter my monitor. If they were going to acquire a borderline/washed up starter to convert to a long man, one would think he'd have more success early in ball games. Aren't there anymore soft tossing Dave Burba types floating around the majors currently, who simply get annihilated after they're figured out in the fifth inning? He was more than serviceable for the Crew in his stint here. Doug is getting lazy unearthing nuggets now that his owner finally allocates him a reasonable amount of money to play with.
