  1. Maybe with Johnson starting for the Marlins tomorrow, another righty, RR wanted to alternate center field duties for consecutive day games with oppressive heat indeces, especially with Morgan playing the past 2 games without an off day. Lots of lefty starters coming up before the break, so Gomez's day off is probably tomorrow. I think it has more to do with playing conditions and preventing fatigue than anything - on paper Gomez shouldn't be playing in front of Morgan when comparing careers against RHP, but there are other factors that aren't taken into account that managers need to weigh. And as I write this, Gomez gets thrown out at 3rd with no outs....never mind! I don't disagree with your point, but if he wants to give guys a chance to rest why not do Green at 1B, Aoki in CF and Hart in RF? Green obviously hasn't been lighting the world on fire, but he's also been getting 3-4 AB's a week the last couple weeks it seems.
  2. So did Hart start to go and Sanchez threw over, or was it just a straight pick off?
  3. I think part of what I found odd about that criticism is of the four you mentioned one was the pitcher and the other clearly the worst hitter on the team. Pitchers virtually always hit 9th and the worst hitter usually always hits 8th. The times they don't bat in that order it's usually reversing the two and hitting the pitcher 8th. There is nothing odd or wrong with having your two worst hitters bat 8th and 9th. So you really were talking about the top two batters in the order. Of those two Morgan who has a career .355 obp against right handers and profiles to be a table setter. So the only guy you really can complain about is Gomez. While I see the argument for not batting him leadoff I also see the argument for not moving a bunch of guys for the sake of one. Then they scored more runs than their average runs scored per game. That may be coincidental or it may not be. It is entirely possible keeping guys in set roles helps them perform better in those roles. Either way I am not sure how it didn't work to the point you felt a need to complain about it. Other than it wasn't what you would have done. If that is the reason I'm cool with that. But that isn't the same as saying someone was wrong for doing something different. You're right in that this was a weird thread for my comment, and that Roenicke couldn't really do anything about most of what I said. I guess I did a poor job of conveying my point, which is basically that I never ever want to see Carlos Gomez bat first or second against a right handed batter. Even if Morgan and Aoki both for some strange reason have the day off. I guess that's part this thread and part the preferred lineup thread.
  4. Maybe you should look at the whole lineup. The other four were Ramirez, Hart, Weeks and Maldonado. Hart and Weeks have a .309 OBP. Maldonodo has a pretty good one, relatively speaking, at .327. So does Ramirez at .341. I guess it would create more runs to have Ramirez leading off with Maldy and Hart hitting second and third ahead of Braun. Then, when one of them do get on base and Braun doesn't drive them in I'm sure Izturis would make a fine cleanup hitter to drive them in as would Gomez. Morgan looks like a prototypical five hole guy doesn't he? The problem we have right now is the guys who can actually drive in runs are also the only guys actually getting on base at all. I don't know how you pin that on RRR. I guess in a roundabout way I was compounding the fact that A)Izturis sucks and is still starting for some reason (yeah I know Ransom isn't much better, but lesser of two evils) and B)I hate that Gomez is playing against RHers AND batting lead off. And for the record, if Gomez HAS to start over Aoki against a RHer, I'd rather have Morgan lead off and everyone else shift up one, with Gomez 7th. But that'd never really happen.
  5. Speaking of those digital radars, has anyone seen the ones that will flash the red and blue lights instead of posting a speed? The strange thing is sometimes I'll see two cars who appear to be going the same speed, and it'll quickly go from something like 51 (it's 50 MPH) to the flashing lights, when it seems unlikely one care is going more than a couple MPH faster than the other. Are they saying you'd get pulled over for going 4-5 over the limit?
  6. Aoki seems to be the King of contact...might be interesting if the contact play is on.
  7. It's one thing to suck, it's another to suck while giving an awful at-bat. Gah.
  8. Is there a single member of the FSN Production team that's good at their job?
  9. Cesar Izturis, Zack Greinke, Carlos Gomez (against a right hander), and Nyjer Morgan are the four batters directly before the best hitter in the Brewers lineup.
  10. Four guys with sub .300 OBP's batting directly before Braun.
  11. Those things have always seemed very low to me. I passed one on 94 West somewhere around the College Ave. exit, and it said I was going 49, but my speedometer said 59. I know my speedometer might be a little off cause my GPS always has me going a couple MPH slower, but that's still a 7-8 MPH difference from what the digital radar speed sign says.
  12. The thread title makes me miss "Google won't save you."
  13. With apologies to persons with the actual disorder, I have more than once (privately) referred to the phenomenon of ADHD Sundays at Miller Park. While sitting in the family section may result in our observing more up/down behavior, it's so definitely not just kids and families who are oblivious to whether they're blocking an at-bat, or even the national anthem. I've never seen anything at Miller Park close to as bad as Saturday at U.S. Cellular. Not even a little.
  14. I went to the Brewers game last night at U.S. Cellular. I'm not sure if anyone else has been there, but I had never been to a game where fans were moving around the seats so much during the action. We were on the first level along the left field line and I was in seat 1, so everyone who walked up and down the stairs would 100% block my view. I'd say I missed at least 1/3rd of the pitches the first 3-4 innings of the game. After that it got slightly better, but was still pretty obnoxious. And it wasn't just fans leaving/entering their seats, there were people standing up and holding conversations with others behind them constantly, during the action. Just so much general disinterest in the game I guess. I don't know if this is a common occurrence, but it really makes me not want to go back there again. I know I've heard that a number of stadiums (I think Petco, Target Field, maybe others) don't allow you to go to your seats in the middle of an at-bat. It just seems like a no-brainer that every stadium should adopt that.
  15. If it was bang-bang it'd be hard to get upset. He wasn't even remotely close to beating it.
  16. Greinke had gone over 100 pitches in 9 of his 14 starts before last night. I imagine he would've had a short leash had he come out for the 10th, and probably deservedly so. It would've been silly to be mad at Roenicke for any potential injury because he threw 110-115 pitches, which he's done numerous times throughout his career without any arm injuries.
  17. So I'm in a fantasy baseball auction league where we get to keep a handful of guys, averaging out the salary they went for last year with what ESPN has their salary as this preseason. I didn't keep Cain or Sale.
  18. He did. Ha sorry, I was making fun of the fact that it's been brought up AT LEAST 15 times a season since BA's been here. Also, there's an extremely dedicated heckler somewhere near home plate. You can hear him clearly on every single pitch.
