  1. Gallardo's peripherals are pretty much in line with his '07, '09 and '10 years, it's just those two Cardinals starts are skewing things this year. He'd always been a pretty high walk rate guy until last year. Not sure if you can call it an aberration yet since he just turned 26 but I've always been a little afraid he may never truly become an "ace," whatever that means.
  2. The point is that at this point it seems obvious whenever RR will call one. It certainly didn't help that it was a terrible bunt.
  3. Someone needs to tell Roenicke a large point of the squeeze play is the element of surprise.
  4. Overall I think he's been just alright, but one of the positives I've noticed is that he'll fill in more information during Uecker's innings. Like when Uecker gives an infamously poor description of what actually happened Block will chime in in the background to make it easier to understand what's going on.
  5. I'm assuming Roenicke didn't want to use him because the Brewers didn't have the lead/the game wasn't tied.
  6. Anyone have any idea of Alfonzo will be getting any back pay from the time he missed? That's a good chunk of change he'd be missing out on.
  7. In what way? I didn't catch all of it, but wasn't the gist of it that you don't have to be super tall to be a successful pitcher? I believe his exact words were "you don't have to be tall to throw hard, and you don't have to be hard to get outs." I pinky swear that's what he said. His other reasoning was that Tim Lincecum has two Cy Youngs, so you don't have to be tall to be good. Aside from Pedro and Billy Wagner, I can't think of any noteworthy under 6' tall pitchers the last several years.
  8. I don't remember, was Loe pinch hit for in the top of the 11th? He only threw 7 pitches in the 10th. Not using Axford over Dillard is dumb, but the whole refusal to use a closer in a non save situation on the road definitely seems to be a league wide phenomenon and not just Roenicke. Not that it makes it any less frustrating to see a guy who arguably shouldn't even be on an MLB roster out there.
  9. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tS0cSGCDu5U Might as well watch it before it's taken down.
  10. ^Dunn's awesome start this year makes last year seem even more inexplicable. Maybe the appendectomy affected him the entire year.
  11. Yeah, it reminded me of the Andrew Bogut air-high fives on the free throw line a couple years ago.

  13. I know it's only 43 PA's, but Theriot's numbers this year are flat out laughable. I wonder how many times Schroeder will refer to him as a "tough out."
  14. Is it safe to say that Ed Rapuano made a make-up call in the bottom of the 6th inning when Burriss was called safe on that infield hit? I'm not sure what would be worse; that Rapuano had made up his mind that the next close call would go the Giants way, or him missing two fairly easy calls minutes apart during a very critical moment in the game.
  15. Not only without Braun, but with Gomez leading off against a righty, Gonzalez 5th, and Ishikawa 7th.
  16. You'd think K-Rod would pay more attention to base runners given the frequency he's pitching with them present.
  17. Not sure I'll be able to stomach Veras and K-Rod again. Please prove me wrong.
  18. I was sure Aoki was hurt when he sort of stumbled backwards after hitting the bag.
  19. Makes up for that terrible strike call to Aramis back in the third inning. But yeah, that was pretty awful.
  20. Honestly, Gomez had like 2 or 3 good games the first week of the year, and has been back to being himself the last few weeks. Including tonight's game, he's walked twice in 53 plate appearances.
  21. Well, the first game has a total of 3 cy young awards going at it. The second game has a guy who has been a stud in Cain and just signed for about 22 million per vs a guy who's put up a 3.82 ERA over the last 3+ seasons, and you come back with Bumgarner(2.52 in '12) vs Marcum(3.19 ERA in '12). Sure, "great," if you're talking about "all time greats," may be an exaggeration, buuuut....he's the Brewers TV guy. Not only is he trying to drum up interest, but this is also a pretty dang good series for pitching matchups. I was thinking Estrada was going and not Marcum, my mistake.
