Under the current rules…. If he came up for the final 40 games now and say mid-season next year, would that really cost us a year though? He’d still be heading into 2028 with less than 1 year of service, meaning we’d have him for 6 more under the current rules. then again, if he comes up and has Greta success, it could make it even harder to sign him and harder to justify starting 2027 in the minors I guess. then again, if we make the World Series, that probably is worth losing 2 years of Made -

I do wonder if the upcoming MLB negations have a big impact… assuming reports are true that we go to only 5 years of control and eliminate the gamesmanship of service time, that is a big difference for when he hits FA. for example, a deal now for 9 years would be buying out (most likely) 2 years of FA. A 9 year deal by next season or whenever the new CBA is done could be 4 FA years I’m hoping if it gets done, we end up with something like 8/120 with 2 option years at 30/30 (so would be 10/180) I do think something like that would be ideal for both the club and player… and ideally allows both of us to avoid worrying about upcoming FA for years 3-5 of his career -
I really like this lineup. As frustrating as some of the recent lineups have been, I will give pancakes credit for getting this one right
