  1. I think the bigger advantage would be going from a guy who was throwing 97-100 mph fastballs to a guy throwing 86-88 mph fastballs. Bingo - then you dial it back up with someone in inning #7

  3. You look goofy and overpaid - that's pretty much as accurate as calling a hitter scared because he struck out 3 times against a pitcher with great stuff that isn't missing his spots against him. Mad Max definitely taking advantage of Hiura up in the zone and hard

  5. Woodruff seems to be finding feel for offspeed this inning - although Kendrick hit a seed. Maybe CC is just getting all his long relievers work on the side in the bullpen while he lets Woody go 8

  7. The Nats lineup in general struggles against offspeed - so guys like Suter, Claudio are decent options regardless of handedness. If Woodruff can get them 4, then I think you go softtossers for innings 5-7 and try to finish it with Pomeranz and Hader

  9. That was a frisbee that broke about 3 feet out of the same arm slot a 97mph heater with run comes out of...kind of understandable, but I agree it's frustrating.

  11. go get that run back now. I'd be inclined to pull Woody after that inning, but if his spot in the order doesn't come up in the 4th I might send him back out or set up a double switch...thinking Suter is going to get the next man up and it'd be nice if he could be set up for 2 innings. Nats are a fastball hitting team, and the raptor would be a good 2nd look after Woodruff

  13. Cable is fine if you don't mind negotiating and changing providers every once in a while if you have to. What's even on cable anymore aside from this game? Seinfeld reruns? Mash? Fake news of all shapes and sizes
  14. This just isn't true. There is plenty of history of starting pitchers coming in, in relief, in the playoffs and dominating. Just last year Boston effectively used 4 different starters coming out of the pen in the playoffs - Price, Sale, Evoldi and Price. I do hope you're right, though. I hope Woody hits in the first inning tonight (and the second...). I guess I missed Boston as a wildcard team using all those starters for that 1 game...probably because they weren't in the AL wild card game. Specific to Boston last year in using the arms you mentioned as relievers, Price was a postseason closer back with the Rays, Sale spent parts of 3 seasons with the white Sox as a late inning reliever, and eovaldi also had bullpen experience. How many relief appearances have strasburg and corbin had in their careers?
  15. Teams that try inserting career starters into the middle of a wild card game to give them a few innings because their regular season bullpen is a train wreck often see that strategy backfire due to putting guys in roles they simply arent accustomed to. If scherzer is pitching well, they would be better off riding him the whole game, like what the cubs did with Arrieta in their 2015 wild card game. The nats arent favored because they could use Strasburg or Colvin if necessary, they are favored because they have the better roster and are playing at home. That said, the brewers' september run equips them for a game like this, where they can just empty the bullpen and substitute at will - they pretty much have to. If the nats need Strasburg to come into this game it's because Scherzer didn't dominate - which means the brewers are likely in good shape.
  16. If you had seen more you'd be even less impressed - that side of the ball didn't really show up today
  17. Lol...gotta love auto correct
