  1. Here's where the Dbacks sweep a weary STL squad coming off 4 hardfought 1 run wins at Wrigley...one can dream, right? 3 games seems like way too much to make up in the season's final week for a division title - but it sure would be fun to be even within 2 games headed into the season's final series. Here's hoping the Dbacks give the Cards fits and the Cubs at least have some fight left in them this weekend.
  2. My personal take is this is what happens when you try a new offense with a veteran QB who has played his whole career under a different system, and open the season against 3 top 10 NFL defenses. 3-0 to open the season, could be a whole lot worse, I guess
  3. I think the best way to watch these first 4 cub cards games as a brewer fan is to bask in each team's failures, regardless of the score...then after the final out, take a look at the scoreboard and see which team the brewers gained ground on and don't worry about the other team winning. Next weekends series might be a different story as far as picking a rooting interest, but for the life me I can't actively root for either of these teams to do well.
  4. they're going to call Grisham out for that ball hitting him before he ran
  5. not being too nitpicky here...but this guy isn't staying set very long before starting his delivery - very close to being a balk
  6. When you throw mid to upper 90s with sharp slider and can command both pitches, you're going to strike out a ton of players - when Lamet is off he walks everybody, unfortunately tonight wasn't a night where he couldn't find the zone Let's get a couple runs in the next few innings
  7. I think the chances of the Nats missing the playoffs are pretty low. With 3 games against Miami and then 8 home games they should be good for at least 90 wins. If the Brewers get a wild card game it will be against the Nats, Cards, or Cubs. I would rather it be the Nats because a loss to either of the other two would be infuriating. Still hoping for a Nats comeback today. lol - comeback not happening after that...when it's your day, it's really your day
  8. With a win tonight the Brewers will be 0.5 GB of WC1, sitting in WC2 at worst tied with the Cubs...not the worst thing in the world to give the Nats another loss before they're done playing teams ahead of the Brewers in the standings. Brewers win, standings-wise we can't lose!
  9. Disagree - only because it wouldn't be the Cards choking it away - it would be either the Cubs or Brewers streaking past them. The Cards have the toughest schedule by far, and four of their 7 games against the Cubs will be played in Wrigley - which will play like a bandbox this weekend looking at the weather forecast. Having a pitching advantage doesn't mean alot when any decently hit flyball winds up in the seats. Cards gonna likely win today because they've gotten EVERY fluky baseball break...typical. The Nats have hit rockets all game long right at defenders, and the Cards just scored a run because a left fielder lost a flyball in the sun and a lefty hitter slapped a ball at the shortstop position that was vacated due to shifting.
  10. good lord those two hits - hit so poorly at least one of them should count as an out, and of course they both happen right in front of Goldschmidt so he's got 2 on.
  11. Absolutely - which is why I qualified my earlier post of still needing to play to an 8-3 or 9-2 stretch for the Brewers to win the division outright, not just guaranteeing them a WC spot. I think the Brewers wind up with WC2 if they manage to play 6-5 from here on out and finish with 88 wins - 7-4 almost guarantees it IMO. Could the Brewers put up a clunker week and drop back out of the race? Sure, that's why they play the games. But, I'd rather be in the Brewers' current situation than the Cubs, and probably even the Cards despite their 2 game edge.
  12. I didn't say just that - I said based on how they're playing and who's left on their schedule - If the Brewers had 7 left against the Cubs or Cardinals, I wouldn't expect them to continue playing 0.800 baseball the rest of the way, either. The Cubs have injuries everywhere and questionable at best pitching, while the Cards have no cupcakes left on their schedule - yet they are both good enough to give each other fits during those 7 games. I don't consider that empty at all. Sure, any one of these teams could finish either 11-0 or 0-11...but IMO there's no chance of that happening. The Brewers are playing well and they don't have any head to head matchups against their competition where a loss is a 2 game swing in the standings - for the Cubs and Cards that means they have no control over what the Brewers do in the W/L column any more, which is a nervous place to be when the division is up for grabs and you still have a pile of head to head games.
  13. Why do we all assume in these scenarios that the Cubs and Cards are going to win all their remaining games when they aren't playing each other? The Cards have to face Scherzer today, then travel to AZ to face a decent Dbacks squad after a 4 game road set in Chicago. I'd say the Cards have a better chance to finish 2-2 than 4-0. If the Reds' offense shows up today, the Cubs will have their hands full with them once more and also will have a road series at Pittsburgh. 3-1 seems likely for them, but it's not out of the question for a 2-2 based on how they've been playing away from Wrigley. If these teams play 2-2 against their other competition, then the ceiling win totals for these teams would be 93 for the Cards and 91 for the Cubs. Those win totals would assume either team wins all 7 games they have to face each other, which is extremely unlikely. A more realistic scenario would have a 4-3 game edge, meaning the Cards' win ceiling is likely 90 wins, and the Cubs' ceiling is at 88 wins. That means if the brewers go 9-2 they are very likely to win the division outright even under the rosiest Cards scenario, and they could win the division outright by playing 8-3 under the rosiest Cubs scenario (which would leave the Cards at 89 wins). I don't think either of those teams is capable of rattling off an 8-3 or 9-2 stretch of baseball based on how they are playing and who's left on their schedule - that means if the Brewers keep playing well they win this division, even if it's still a 20-ish percent chance of happening entering play today.
  14. It is going to be so sweet to watch all the hype and hoopla of the upcoming 7 Cubs-Cards games unfold while the Brewers quietly drift ahead of both teams in the standings 11 games left - going 6-5 gets them to 88 wins, which I think guarantees them a playoff spot based on the current standings and remaining schedules. 8-3 gets them to 90 wins, which I think will be enough for at least tying for the division title.
  15. I always pictured him as more of a High Life kind of guy. Unless he's trying to be cool with the hipsters. Coach Cooper had a mesh hat before mesh was invented...hipsters beware!
  16. Yep At this point I'd almost want them to bring Burnes to see just how bonkers this September roll the Brewers are on really is - he'll probably come out painting at 98 with command of that slider the way things are going. Insurance!!!
  17. Very true - but it would be so much better to have the Cards 2 games or less in front of the Brewers for the division before those two teams start beating up on each other - if the Crew stays hot they could scoot right past both clubs and take the division away outright, leaving them to duke it out for the 2nd WC spot.
  18. Realistically which team do we want to win this game though? I mean I think our playoff odds are better if the Nats lose and we gain a game on them. But if I could choose the results I want the Cardinals to be out of the playoffs. We historically play so poorly against them I want nothing to do with them come the postseason. I'd want the Nats to win, simply because the Cards have given the Brewers the most trouble overall this year and historically in the playoffs. That and I can't stand STL. I think our playoff odds actually might improve more with the cards losing compared to the nats, because it gets the Brewers closer to two playoff spots instead of just a WC berth - particularly with the Cards still needing to play 7 more games against the Cubs (while the Nats play other opponents not vying for these same playoff spots)
  19. 3-2 nats after 6 - Cards managed to plate a run after a strikeout...figures! Let's get 6 more outs before the Pads score again - at least one of the Cards or Cubs are going to lose tonight.
