September nfl games are always unpredictable....thursday night September games are even more of a crapshoot. Glad this is a home game, and ill be happiest with a W but also just thrilled if the Packers get out of thursday with no significant injuries. -
You can have the best weapons in football on the outside, but if your qb's internal clock is always sped up and he throws a great ball nowhere near where it needs to be for a guy to actually catch it, it does you no good. The biggest knock on Williams coming out as a prospect was that he often didnt take the easy completion or go through progressions/throw on time - and spent most of his time trying to make plays in a scramble drill/after a play broke down. Things just seem more pressured than they actually are in his mind - wondering if the new geek coach's complex offensive system is going to do more harm than good in year 2 for Caleb.

That game last night felt and looked like the game to decide who rides in the front of the NFC North struggle bus - and regardless of who won, both teams are still on it.

What jumped off the screen for me the whole game yesterday was how fast the Packers looked defensively - as others mentioned, there was nothing over the top on them, and they always seemed to have multiple defenders in position to make a tackle on a receiver about to catch a ball. Plus, the front 7 excelled at getting off blocks at the point of attack all game long. Detroit is no slouch at skill positions offensively, and they didnt have any wide open spaces to create easy chunk plays yesterday. Credit goes to coaching/game planning for sure, but I think alot of it is just the athleticism the Packers can run out on the field in their front 7 + safeties right now - and thats with Parsons in training wheels yesterday. Van Ness lined up all over, and even dropped into some coverage on a few blitz schemes. Cooper and Walker paired with Gary and now Parsons is just chaos for an offense to figure out how to block - and it frees up opportunities for guys like Van Ness and Wyatt to beat 1 on 1s inside. Last season Detroit toyed with the Packers up front on both sides of the ball - quite the opposite yesterday. -
I'm a big fan of Miz and think he can do great things - that being said, get him out of the game. 15 wasted pitches leading to a pair of walks after your team plates 4. 1st thing to go when you get tired is command. They jeepntalking about a bullpen role in the playoffs for him, and that is honestly the last thing I want him to be doing - just asking for jams/walks and blowup innings. Shut him down once other relievers are back available

6.5 game lead on the cubs...but remember that they have the all important tiebreaker - which means its only like a 1.25 game cushion Plus they have that super-soft schedule - last I checked they only have 2 or 3 games in the whole month of october!

I mean, they pretty much did that July -August... If hanging around is trailing by between 5 and 7 games in the standings for several weeks, Im all for it. It will be more than satisfying to handle the Cubs a wildcard berth despite them likely winding up neither thr NL's second best record - and never really sniffing a division title chance since the calendar turned to august

One thing ive long considered to be a weakness with the Brewers when it comes to the postseason is their emphasis on positional versatility limiting their playoff rosters. Over the course of a regular season, having a bench full of guys who carry all the fielders gloves and can fill in at many positions due to pitching matchups, guys needing a day off, etc probably helps to grind out a few more wins over the 162.... However, being stuck with that same bench during a best of 5 or 7 game series in October does you no good when you need the most hitting/power talent you can possibly get on the field and thr strategy shifts to finding the most chances for scoring runs in the late innings. Bottom line, if Hoskins is healthy, he needs to be in Milwaukee and in the lineup so he is ready for the playoffs - if that means Bauers gets DFA'd or Seigler is gone, or even Vaughn is benched, it needs to happen. If Yelich continues to not be playing or IL-d right now through this, Ill also lose my mind.

From a w-l record standpoint, then so is the rest of the league. Cubs are also 5-5 in their last 10 even with today's win, btw. but I do get the concern of all these nagging (and in some cases significant) injuries keeping guys out of the lineup/unavailable in the pen, too. September callups have been a wet fart in the wind for this team because it's mainly been injury replacements. Yelich needs to be able to get back in the lineup - this is already the 3rd game they'll be playing shorthanded with him not on IL but not able to hit off the bench, and it's leading to guys like Chourio not getting a day when he might have needed it ramping back up.

would Contreras have been that dead of a duck if he tagged on that flyball to Bader? Even if that is a 20-80 shot at plating a run I think I would have sent him in that spot at this point in the game

Disagree - when you think of it, both the pitcher and the hitter put those type of game-altering call in the hands of someone/something they can't control by nibbling or opting not to swing on a close pitch they probably weren't going to do anything with. If a 50/50 call doesn't go their way, it's a tough pill to swallow but it's still on them. Williams can also avoid that situation by being better earlier in the inning (hell earlier in the counts) to not even be in a jam. ABS is just going to make both pitchers and hitters struggle who to blame for a "bad call" leading to an outcome they don't like. It does need to be implemented to take the egregious ball-strike calls out of the equation that can swing how at bats go in key situations.

I get it, but I'm officially done with the "weak remaining schedule" narrative being the main reason to be concerned about the Cubs. Ive been hearing all about it since the all star break, when the Cubs were still a game ahead of the Brewers for the division and many were checking how close the 3rd wildcard spots in the standings was for playoff positioning. 2 months into that "easy 2nd half schedule", the Cubs have managed to lose 7 games in the standings headed into action today. And they are running out of games to find a way to play the 0.900 baseball necessary to catch a Brewers team that is now entering a pretty soft September schedule of its own compared to what they've gone through since late July

The Cubs are 5-5 in their last 10 games, mostly against teams way below 0.500. The Brewers are 5-5 in their last 10 against two of the other best teams in baseball and clubs right at 0.500. Might take more than the rest of September for the Cubs to gain 6 games of ground at that rate no matter who they are playing. Tucker isnt 100% and PCA has sucked since being named an all star.

No walks please - Harper and Schwarber have been quiet tonight and I dont like the idea of them up and able to tie or take the lead in this game with 1 swing late. Koenig starting the 9th against righties feels like Murphy wants a jam to work out of. Don't really love it
