  1. It would be so Pirates for them to continue running out Skenes for a few more starts and have his UCL blow out. I would hope they have a set innings limit they won't let him cross since they're out of playoff contention, with the idea of having him as their Opening Day starter next season. It's not worth the risk of him getting injured pitching meaningless late September innings for a team not headed to the playoffs that could take a big step forward this offseason centered around their starting rotation with a healthy Skenes headlining it.
  2. It looked that much better just with the Brewers because he got one of his typical extended in-season offensive slumps out of the way in a different uniform. The seeing the ball differently in a home ballpark not named the Trop helped initially, too.
  3. I think so....and it is RO the YEAR, not necessarily who is playing the best at the end of the season. Making the counting stats probably more meaningful over the course of the full 162. Merrill is definitely the favorite for the award in the NL based on the full body of work - but the fact Chourio is even in the conversation at this point speaks to how unbelievable he's been for the past 3 months of a season that some were openly questioning into June when he should get optioned down to AAA to restore his confidence at the plate.
  4. Yes, Merrill had a crazy good August himself - and both are raking into September....Merrill has had ok months early (just under 0.700 OPS), then an awesome June, dip back towards a 0.700 OPS in July, and an awesome August (0.969 OPS). Chourio's season-long OPS was sub 0.600 at the end of May, since then he's been OPS-ing ~0.900, ~0.875, ~0.925, and now ~1.4 from June into September. The fact Chourio is within 0.1 WAR of Merrill despite his April/May early season scuffles and roughly 2.5-weeks fewer ABs is crazy, because Merrill really hasn't had an extended slump period in his rookie season. Merrill also has roughly 50 more ABs to add to his counting stats since Chourio's early season issues led to him being a part time player for a couple months in May/June while he was turning things around. Chourio is getting intentionally walked in plenty of late-game situations now....in order for pitchers to face veteran middle of the order hitters instead. Even though it won't apply to him next year anymore, there should be a MLB rule change that if you aren't yet of legal drinking age stateside, you can't be intentionally walked.
  5. Honestly, a 49er just got shot in San Francisco in a robbing attempt and there are plenty of US metropolitan areas where teams routinely get bussed from the airport to team hotel, then stadium and right back to the airport. Probably more risk/concern on the NFL's side of things due to being outside of the country in terms of not wanting players or family/friends abducted internationally.
  6. I also think it's kind of silly to write off this game as an L when it's still a 1 run game
  7. or you don't bunt in that case, potentially hit into a double play, and the inning probably ends two batters earlier in that sequence with a guy still stranded at 3rd. Turang doesn't ground to the pitcher in that spot and the Brewers probably win the game.
  8. I don't think bunt is the auto play in the situation where you have a guy on 2nd 0 outs and just need 1 run to win. Speed and contact really stresses a defense no matter what, would rather get 3 cracks at putting the ball in play one time for a hit that wins the game.
  9. It's all good, and everything's stable and steadily getting better... until it's not. Fundamentals are not great, and cost of living is waaaaay out of whack for too many people. Market volatility still reminds me alot of this same time period in 2008 - different reasons, but tough to not see history repeating itself in the markets.
  10. yeah, but I have doubts there will be 2 teams that get into a bidding war over him at the level he'll think he deserves. I think it's going to be more along the lines of a handful of tepid suitors if the price/contract length makes sense to them, and then one team who really want Adames that winds up competing against what the previous "market rate" SS contracts were from a few offseasons ago that have largely proven to be bad longterm investments.
  11. The Padres already have like 3 or 4 other veteran SS's making a ton of money they could easily move back to that position even if they opt not to resign Kim...cross them off that list. The Dodgers do make sense...if they feel like keeping Betts in the OF and don't want to get nuts with adding even more starting pitching via free agency this offseason to a payroll that is already ridiculous. Giants, too - and I think that's Wily's most likely destination. I also think it's the team most likely to overpay given how the last few free agent offseasons have unfolded for them, too. The Braves have already shown a willingness to let homegrown veteran position players walk when their contracts get to a point where you're paying for past performance - see Swanson, Dansby. I think they'd be interested - just not at the length and overall CV Wily would jump at.
  12. Wondering which teams that have mountains of cash to spend and who would be interested in throwing Wily a 9-figure contract in free agency this winter to a SS who probably will need to be moved off that position soon? Thinking that list might be pretty short, and would actually limit Wily's prospects for a contract coming anywhere close to $200M - Even if the "market rate" should put him in that area.
  13. Weird to say, but I hope Adames hits a slump soon, so he has enough time to find another groove in the playoffs. Otherwise this stretch will be a afterthought when he's not contributing offensively in October. When he's rolling at the plate for about 2-3 weeks 3 or 4 times a season, it's easy to forget the weeks of bad at bats that also come with Wily. He has a had a great bounce back season after 2023, that's for sure! Love him as a player and wish him well in free agency this offseason...hope he gets plenty of money from a team not named the Brewers.
  14. Merrill continues to be the heavy favorite for ROY, but if Chourio keeps up this pace through September he probably winds up with better numbers than him despite that slow start to the year. What he is doing right now is league MVP-caliber
  15. This team finds so many ways to win games....just a damn fun season to witness
  16. Never a doubt Hide Devin's uniform tomorrow
  17. At some point front offices are going to realize pitchers are the nfl version of running backs the way the game is played, and free agent starting pitcher money will dry up. Just look at the list of Boras free agent starters and how generally awful those contracts have been to the teams who signed them.
  18. Its been a long time since I've lived in that area - but honestly one decent option on a good weather day is to wander around the lakefront or surrounding neighborhoods just west and south of Wrigley. I think there's still a 9 hole golf course by Belmont Harbor area, and there are some pretty cool shops along Belmont and Southport. Obviously, tons of places to eat and grab a drink - I'd venture a little ways west or south from Wrigley to find a spot with a nice patio that smells better than stale Old Style from the last ballgame, though.
  19. Yep...Hader didn't have command that fateful inning, either (kind of a common issue with Brewer postseason late game losses, actually)....and I still think that HBP against Taylor that really set that inning up for the Nats should have been ruled a foul ball (call on the field was HBP and replay simply didn't see enough convincing evidence it hit the bat first - had the umps ruled it a foul ball that call likely would have withstood a replay, too). Thought the Brewers were set up pretty well to make a run that postseason had they won that wild card game against the eventual WS champs. As it turns out, Grisham is yet another one of those players who at first everyone was nervous about leaving the Brewers' org, only to wind up being a very marginal everyday player in the major leagues.
  20. Love the way this team grinds out ABs and makes pitchers throw strikes - more often than not, of course....really impressive considering how damn young they are, too
  21. I'd live with it if the Brewers are up 13-1. That said, looking forward to another game watching this defense in this park! Keep stacking w's.
  22. Whichever team shells out $150+ million to sign Burnes in free agency headed to his age 30 season is going to regret it. Burnes has been good overall this year, but he's scuffling lately and his most dominant period starting came when the Brewers were running out a 6 man rotation. Not surprising to me that he's not as dominant as innings are piling up in Baltimore since they've had so many other starters go down injured. Is 150 dominant IP as a starter over a season worth $30+M? I guess it would be for a handful of teams who have limitless payroll - but 80 percent of mlb teams won't even consider trying to sign Burnes, and frankly it's probably the smart choice if he does wind up signing a 4+ year deal.
  23. If it were that simple, he wouldn't be destroying pitching on the cusp of the major leagues or former major league pitchers who can readily put the baseball where they want consistently. Regardless of what league it's in. Hiura has gotten roughly 1 week of mlb at bats in the last two seasons, I'm not going to make any grand statements based on that.
  24. Hiura will continue to get MLB looks, and at some point he will have a stretch of consistent mlb playing time with an organization, if he stays patient stateside. Or, he goes the Thames route and dominates in Korea or Japan a few years before he's back in MLB. His numbers the past few seasons in AAA across different leagues suggest he's a MLB hitter amd much more than a AAAA player in the right situation. It's got to be a team that uses the DH just as a hitter, and doesn't require that position on the roster to carry any defensive value/role. The Rockies or White Sox make a ton of sense to pick him up over the offseason. The Angels should have just let him play out the season instead of giving him about a week.
  25. Was thinking about stadium parking the other day....how many EV charging stations do the AmFam lots currently have?
