  1. I hadn't realized I had never seen Mike Clevinger pitch until he and the Pads visited Milwaukee this year. I was stunned by his rocking and kind of lanky-janky delivery. It can only be meant as a distraction. ??‍♀️
  2. Got that going for us, which is nice.
  3. I'm solidly on #TeamHoby, as much because of his old-timey name as his performance on the mound.
  4. To be fair, the severe thunderstorm winds that have since come through probably sent the ball even more aloft than Willy did.
  5. If opting out gives him a chance to rest and reset, I’m all for it.
  6. I know it’s technically correct, but that “if he clears outright waivers” made me roll my eyes a half roll. (I haven’t forgotten how the Brewers got him)
  7. …Did they run out of diamond dry? The infield dirt doesn’t look all that dry.
  8. Everyone knows the secret to success is to have four catchers on your road trip.
  9. So...you gents who do both Twins Daily and Brewer Fanatic must be ? at this point. ?
  10. Agreed. I wonder if The Athletic has a replacement ready for the Brewers beat.
  11. https://www.wisconsinhistory.org/Records/Article/CS2773 I didn't know about it until I started working for the Wisconsin Historical Society. Anyway, WHS has the water glass Teddy drank from after being shot. You can read more about it at this link.
  12. You might not expect a 56 year old librarian to look at this (especially the part where the visiting fans beat a hasty retreat) and say INJECT THIS INTO MY VEINS. Yet, here we are. ? This is going to be my happy place when we're at Tuesday's game, sweating and watching the remaining pitchers try to hold things together.
  13. We are getting close (10 days as I write this) to the 20th anniversary of the All-Star Game played at Miller Park. That was July 9, 2002. You probably remember how it ended. Let's have a thread of memories about it. I'll start with some of mine. Our SSH status goes back to the mid-1990s, so we could buy tickets to all of the all-star week activities before the general public. I passed on the home run derby so my SO could take his teenage nephew (trying to score some cool aunt points, I guess). We had terrace box seats for the stadium events. Among my more random memories of the actual game was the pre-game extremely long (or so it felt) ceremony honoring MasterCard and MLB's Memorable Moments. Everyone who attended got a seat cushion with the Memorable Moments logo. We still have ours, though we rarely use them, but I still see people bringing them to games. The seat cushions had a variety of promotional goodies inside, including a mini box of Oreo-Os cereal. I remember being struck by how many fans were wearing Brewers gear. That was simply less of a thing in 2002 than it is today. Imma stop here for now and let others chime in. (I'm pretty sure I have a longer account of my memories buried deep in an email folder, so I'll have to see if I can find it.)
  14. I don't live in the Milwaukee market, so I have zero inside information, but I immediately had a hunch that maybe Watson applied for the sports director job at WISN, obviously didn't get it, and decided to move on.
  15. My apologies for derailing this slightly, but I remain amazed at the notion that my legacy here (on bf.net/bf.com) could well be the long-ago relish tray thread. ? Speaking as myself and not on behalf of the site, I'll admit to being torn on the banner issue (which I completely missed due to non-internet busyness the last week-plus). Like many of you, I have long appreciated the largely politics-free haven that bf.net/com has provided - arguably more in recent years than ever. The banner on Monday broke or at least cracked that seal, and that's disappointing, in varying degrees, to me and to some/many of you. I am personally more disappointed in the court decision that prompted Brock's action. I fear it represents the start of a slippery slope that could take us all to some ugly places - beyond reproduction issues. Perhaps some circumstances are large enough to warrant at least a temporary departure from "business as usual." I can't tell anyone what to do, regarding the site, going forward. I hope that this single action does not drive you from the site for good. For society's sake, I also hope it's rare that we face national or global issues that are this large and jarring.
  16. Haha, fair point, but he's not as likely to be crashing into outfield walls, at least. ?
  17. WISC in Madison has been doing the same since shortly into the pandemic.
  18. Lorenzo's still on the All-Star ballot, so why not cast a vote (or up to five per day) for him as a thank you for his MLB career? (Obviously it makes little if any baseball sense. So does a lot of the all-star selection process.) https://www.mlb.com/all-star/ballot #VoteLo
  19. Oof. I understand it, but this move hurts. Lorenzo is special enough so losing him in the Greinke trade was a big sting for me. Thus I was extra delighted at his return in 2018. Enjoy your THREE KID$, Lo. You've earned your success and deserve a rest.
  20. Speaking as an employee of a government agency, this bugs me. Try not to tar every public employee and agency with the same brush. I manage the front desk of a government agency library which by default often becomes the point of first contact for agency-wide questions. Many of the non-library questions require us to transfer calls. Since the pandemic, I've purposely encouraged callers to communicate via email because I am not privy to most colleagues' on-site and work-from-home schedules, and most of my colleagues will get an email notification before they check voice mail. (The area I manage is one of few throughout the agency to lack voice mail, so we get the callers who kept pressing 1 in order to talk to a live person.) For my department's transactions that can't be handled while someone waits, I make a point of following up the same business day or within a business day, even if only to say that I'll need more time or more information. I usually do this via email so there's a written record of our correspondence. Having said that...my transactions with the public tend not to be as heavily bureaucratic as others in the government spectrum. DPI is much bigger than my agency, though if their staffing level is like ours, they lost people during the pandemic and the replacement process is arduous and definitely bureaucratic.
  21. For those of you who use Instagram, a few photos are there and the fella is cute. No visible man bun in the first two days. ?
  22. I originally came here to say that if they make that lil grill into a patch and/or decal, I will be throwing money at them. But that lil cooler is ADORABLE, though dang if I need another Brewers hoodie anymore.
  23. Plus he is 1-for-1 in walkoff celebrations. Even if he never sniffs the show again, he’s got a great story for the rest of his life.
