  1. You sure about that? Sincerely, a young Gary Sheffield Well, he cared about sending a message, I guess.
  2. Wow that stinks.. guess I'll leave work around 1 then. Don't you leave, Sgt, until you've done your mench talk.
  3. Yeah; and even if they try to wait it out, I'd spend the whole game worrying about how many Brewer injuries would be sustained on what by then would be mighty soggy turf. I'd like the Brewers to have a shot at restoring some momentum with a Sheets start, but that may not be in the cards (small c) today.
  4. Hate to say, but if the current Pittsburgh radar is any indication, I will be surprised if this game starts on time. Edit: Ugh, can they pack more Brewer killer pirates into that lineup? I curse them all.
  5. I choose to assume that the photo on the right above depicts Gorzelanny rage and/or frustration, after he gives up a bunch of Brewer runs. C'mon now. You can manage a split.
  6. Button Gwinnett. Ohhh, yeah. At my workplace (Wisconsin Historical Society), we have a collection of autographs of signers of the Declaration of Independence, including Mr. Gwinnett. His is among the rarest of autographs because he died in a duel within a year of signing the declaration. Link to Wikipedia entry If any of you saw the D of I when it was displayed in Wisconsin (State Capitol, 2003), we had some of the autographs on display there too, including Gwinnett's. We all wore Button Gwinnett buttons. It was kind of fun.
  7. Sorry, LD. You were first. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I believe a new magic number pic has been posted in today's Brewers' IGT.
  8. Final game in Pitt Time for another haiku Let's get the Snell out! Good try, TLB But this is a four-game set Pirates Thursday, too. Hey, Claudio, bring the good stuff today. Do it for America!
  9. Let's go Nats your due to get hot for a couple of games Not more than a couple, please!
  10. Thanks, vgmaster. I was unaware of all of that.
  11. No love for the local Palermo's? You know, just last week at Woodman's I got a Palermo's "Rustico" with white cheddar and tomato, and we liked it a lot. The thin crust Palermo's...not so much. Palermo's is also a Brewers sponsor, though they aren't "extra-Orv-inary." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. Oh, goody. Another 3:05 start. National Weather Service says a 50% chance of storms in PIT during the day, up to 70% by night. So at least maybe it'll be overcast and the sun angle won't be an issue. Go Brewers! (and go Nats)
  13. The Mets-Cubs play that weekend, too, but both of those teams are nearing the limit for appearing on ESPN/FOX. Is there really a limit? Because you'd think ESPN would have filled its quota for NYY and BOS some time ago. If a change were to be made, is there a minimum advance notice? August 5 happens to be the annual "hawing's nephew at the ballpark day" and having him stay up until a 7:05PM game is over might be a deal breaker. (And we've been looking forward to the Cappy bobble because nephew is also a lefty.)
  14. I apologize for starting the full-out threadjacking.. Oh, you know, comparing pizza might be more interesting in the end. Although I appreciate brewstew's sharp eye - and I still can't believe how often the UW uses that picture - there is probably only so much to be squeezed out of the topic "look! here's a webpage picture where you can kind of see hawing's head!" http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. I remember Rhythm and Booms was postponed last year and there were a lot of unhappy (literally) campers. Think how early people were probably setting up along the lake today and then have it postponed. Oh, yeah, that was a pickle for sure. The Warner Park crowd was probably approaching its peak size, and there's a tornado warning in Sauk County and a mean looking (on radar at least) storm headed southeast pretty fast. It weakened before reaching Madison, but the short-term forecast at that time just looked too threatening to take a chance with.
  16. I had a meeting at the Lakefront cafe last week and had the misfortune of getting a slice of pizza. I can't believe nobody warned me about this. That would be brewstew's fault for not starting this thread before your meeting. I won't say either is a gourmet experience, but Orv's pizza is better than Lakefront. The Rizer crust is better than the thin crust. (And Lakefront on Langdon isn't a sponsor on the Brewers Radio Network.)
  17. The Lakefront pizza is pretty bad - and we've been known to buy the likes of Orv's for our home freezer. Sometimes I am hungry enough at lunchtime to think to myself, "but I could get the pizza slice without having to wait 10 minutes in line." But I've trained myself to resist. I'm more a fan of the turkey sandwich specials in Der Rathskellar (Smoked Turkey Melt, and of course, the Double Play!)
  18. Ahh, geez, that picture again. That's from the first spring the Lakefront was open in its current form (Tip to TheBwaz: it didn't always look like that - although it has always had the sweet lake view), and between the Union and UW in general, they keep on using it. Tom is looking at my office mate, who is the same age as Tom; and across from me is a geology guy who just happened to stop by for a few minutes (and has been immortalized in photo ever since). I'd have sat up straighter if I'd known at the time. Thing is, as I think I've told brewstew before, we hardly ever eat at Lakefront anymore. It's too hard to count on finding a open table. In the Rathskellar we at least have a chance. Thanks for the heads-up...I guess. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  19. One-line post (This space left intentionally blank?). On behalf of the site staff, let me point out that none of the one-line posts in this thread is the type that will get you a warning or strike. There are definitely times when a brief response is appropriate, and even entertaining. When we express concern about one-line posts on the forum, it's more for serial behavior, i.e. posters whose only or primary contribution to the forum is (usually snarky) one-liners. If that's all you ever bring to the table, we'll contact you privately to let you know. Otherwise, please don't be afraid to occasionally make one line posts. Moderation is the key. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif (I'm sorry I can't contribute much to the actual fireworks topic, since I don't live in Milwaukeeland. Y'all should have had your big show on Saturday, when the weather was gorgeous, like it was in Madison for Rhythm & Booms...)
  20. I hate these weird start times. Yeah, I either have to stay at work late or miss the end of the game, for a 3 PM start. Takin' one for the team, I guess. C'mon, Cappy, you're our undisputed and only Cappy now! And as for the Pirates...curse ye scurvy dogs. Curse ye!
  21. Please don't suck. Lamp, I can't tell you how many times I've either thought that exact phrase to myself or said it under my breath as a game gets underway. Mostly in the Miller Park era.
  22. Van Benschoten faced the Brewers back on August 31st of 2004 as a starter. He was facing Doug Davis who got pulled after 1 inning. That box score is intriguing. The Brewers put up a 4-spot in the first and Doug is pulled after two batters in the 2nd? I don't remember DD being hurt in '04, but it certainly doesn't look like he was being rocked. OK, back to topic. Go Brewers. Devalue the PNC curse.
  23. are the women's bathrooms "normal" with stalls Oh, let me help out the nation here. Yes. I haven't been there since 2001 (at one of those games postponed until early October in the wake of the terror attacks), but there were stalls for the ladies then. In fact, I was in the restroom when Sosa had an ITP home run. I was mildly disappointed to miss the feat, but less so upon realizing that it was Sammy.
  24. You hoping for a brawl, Bwaz? And its potential for suspensions and/or injury? (Just wondering.)
  25. Perhaps lost in all the excitement of the 1st/2nd place duel between us and the Cubs is that the Cardinals have quietly slipped to 10.5 back. There's so much about that sentence which, in the part of my brain which is still hard wired for losing and disappointment...just does not compute. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
