  1. In Madison, it's called a drinking fountain. I hate that. BUBBLER!! Not everywhere in Madison. When I started working at my library in the mid 1980s, I happened upon an old-ish handout showing our floorplan. Swear to God, it says "Bubbler", right where the bubbler was in our hallway. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. get to find out what combination of pills makes Walker Texas Ranger enjoyable to watch Hey, thanks for the laugh, FTJ. I've been labeled Auntie since the first nephew was born. Although he was the first grandchild on his dad's (i.e. my) side of the family, he's not the first on his mom's side, and that side already set the Auntie precedent. They're from Platteville. One of my favorite things to study while getting my B.A. in linguistics was just this kind of thing: who says pop vs. soda vs. coke, who says nuclear vs. nucular, and much much more.
  3. Today (so far), it's job applicants who don't follow instructions. This is the time of year I hire student assistants for the library. We're dirt poor, so we look for students with work-study funding (a specific type of financial aid). I word the ad so it prominently says, "Work-study funding is required for this position. When replying to this ad, indicate the amount of your award." Most people comply; but there are always some who respond and say nothing about the work-study. I've begun to use this as a test for following directions. It's a detail-oriented job and whoever doesn't get that detail is already off to a bad start - even if they do have work-study funding. (Usually the people who don't mention it hope to be considered despite their lack of funding.) Still. These are college students at a "world class university" (as Donna Shalala so often put it). Read. The. Ad. Oh, and cats are nocturnal. But the kittens will outgrow the need to play like crazy *all* night. How old are they?
  4. Any of you Madison area types remember Angela Jacobs from channel 3 sports? She always said "Northwestren" instead of "Northwestern." North-west-ren. Drove. Me. Insane. I guess that's technically "what bugged me" several years ago.
  5. "This is the Johnsons' house" would be the right way to describe the house belonging to a family of Johnsons. Those of you who are bugged by this kind of thing might like this website: www.theatlantic.com/unbou.../index.htm My mother has always said I should have been a proofreader, and while I enjoy the career I chose, her idea was probably good too.
  6. the Brewers will be playing in the 7th game of the world series, and the Packers will be 0-8 but they will put them on 620, and then the Bucks will be in a preseason game on 1290. The brewers game just won't be on the radio. Worst off all, FOX will blackout the game in Milwaukee. Nice to know what to expect. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Well, I think Madison might bother to carry the Brewers ahead of the Bucks - so you all can just come over here to listen, if not watch.
  7. Nice quip, brewers19. Hope it doesn't prove true. WTMJ feels they need a 3 hour pregame show for a preseason game which makes me hate WTMJ a little more. OK, that, and en route to one of our games last week, we heard them say on WTMJ that there'll be some big Packer promotion at 7:15 AM starting on or after Labor Day. I thought that was the time for the Brewers Sunup ("and especially at 7:15"). Ahem? Still several weeks of Brewers season left? Flagship station? What will TMJ do when the Brewers have a truly meaningful September? I know, if I have to ask I probably don't want to know the answer. OK, got that out of my system. Go Brewers. Please. Don't. Suck.
  8. figured after everyone else had mentioned it, a mod had taken care of it Same here; plus for all I knew, he could have provided some assurance (offlist) that the banned behavior was a fluke and wouldn't be repeated.
  9. Our Shouse. Please take us to the 10th.
  10. Bill is moving his son to college this weekend. Edit: Chatroom or IGT, I'm slow this whole day.
  11. My monitor must be broken. I'm sure Shampoo's post was in sarcastic blue. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. So if this is the same poster, why is he still around? (I'm not trying to make that a judgement question. Really just wondering.)
  13. Someone tell Bill Hall this is the ballgame.
  14. The only mojo idea I have is a fish fry: http://www.angithi.com/images/RecipeSite/Food/hilsa_fish_fry.jpg ???
  15. Brady out with an upset stomach, per Uecker. (A breakfast gone awry, he said.) Or maybe he took the long view of the 2006 Milwaukee Brewers.
  16. Gotta cash in early here and get the lead ...and that's going to be up to Kevin Mench. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/indifferent.gif
  17. Gross in at the last minute for Brady.
  18. I was pumped when I saw that the IGT was on page two an hour before game time. Now I see it's mostly gripes about TV (i.e. lack thereof). Ah well. Go Brewers anyway. Make hawing smile.
  19. I can't watch tonight anyway, as I will be at the UW-Madison Field House watching the volleyball Badgers launch their promising new season. But I'll have something Brewers with me for mojo. Go team!
  20. My father-in-law usually sits in 421 row 6 of the terrace box. We're usually in 417 (family section), either row 5 or 6. This is for a 20 game package. We'd rather see more games per year in cheaper seats than fewer in a pricey section. This year, the Brewers offered 20 game ticket holders a voucher to upgrade to the next priciest level for one game. We picked today's because 417 (indeed, the whole terrace) is a madhouse on kids and senior citizen days. But we didn't do the exchange until last week, so the ticket guy apologized for putting us in the farthest out corner of 206. However, I liked the seats.
  21. Check it out! I'm Tomokazu Ohka of the Montreal Expos! -- Bart Simpson Wow, what a weird but encouraging game. Four RBIs for the first-time-left-hitting pitcher? Wha? (not to mention, more offense from the Brewers' pitcher than the opponent's pitcher) Twelve runs on thirteen hits - for the Brewers? Whaaa? And a sweep. These guys continue to simultaneously torment and delight me. Miscellaneous thoughts from my day at the ballpark: The view from section 206 is better than I expected. All we couldn't see was the right field corner - which also holds for our usual location in the terrace box. And had a home run ricocheted just so off the right field foul pole, it would have been totally mine. The 206 vantage point is especially fine for tracking the complete arc of a Prince Fielder homerun that caroms off the batter's eye. All I could do was immediately stand and cheer because it was *so* obvious it was gone. (Not saying I didn't enjoy Bill Hall's HR too.) I finally had some Cactus League Nachos. They are pretty good. On to Florida, fellas. Don't let your nation down. P.S. SgtClueLs, you have a new job on bf.net. Heck, petition Brian to get you put on staff as IGT starter. I'd second that. Edited to correct the Simpsons quote.
  22. Today's our second (of two) weekday games this season. Come on, Brewers. Make hawing smile.
  23. It should be pointed out that another ump may have rung up Holliday and Torrealba (I know, it is a stretch) and then we would be talking about Derrick's great outing. From our vantage point in section 322 tonight, we and our section mates were convinced that the umpire missed, or chose not to call, strike three on Torrealba. Maybe a payback call for when Yorvit was arguing an earlier called strike 3? I don't know; we didn't have access to a replay and maybe those of you who did saw otherwise. I had no problem with Ned giving Turnbow a chance in this situation - as long as his hook was short; and I think he was replaced at the right time. I think Geoff merited the boos he got more than Derrick. I saw it in person, but I still don't know how Starter Cappy got out of that 4th inning jam. As Peavey would say, man alive. Nice outing, for the most part. Crowd was not huge (at least compared to recent games) but was into the game. Terrific weather. I'm going to miss this after about five weeks.
