  1. I have way too many happy Prince Fielder memories to ever choose one favorite, but I'll post this one because it turned out to be my favorite game of 2010: Down by three going into the bottom of the ninth. The first batter is out, then the rest of the way is Kottaras BB, Joe Inglett HR (!), Rickie gets on, Corey gets on, and Prince hits a low rocket at just the right angle to take a weird carom off the RF wall, allowing Corey just enough time to score. We were so happy that night, despite the overall meaninglessness of that game. This morning on our bus, an older woman (older than me) wanted to make sure we noticed she was wearing a Fielder shirsey today, in tribute to the big guy. Usually she's in typical office-work clothing with her white hair in a bun, reading. So that's cool. Best wishes to the Prince. Heir to the throne, baby.
  2. Sitting at Miller Park last night, I noticed two things, one of which was a new realization for me: 1. Ryan Braun felt like the "old guard" to me - both in terms of chronological age and roster seniority. That's not new, but it's in sharper relief now that Lucroy has been moved, so it felt new to me. 2. The lineup felt limited enough before the July trades, but now it really sticks out. That's not new to me (I don't know how many times prior to August I thought to myself, MAN, THIS BENCH), but it's extra stark now. This is more the type of roster it seemed like all of 2016 would "feature." I don't question the effort, but there does seem to be a ceiling on potential. And I guess another thing: 3. I like Orlando Arcia in the field. Double play opportunities that turn on the SS don't make me hold my breath like they did in July or earlier.
  3. The Empire Builder! That'll be a fun trip.
  4. Ugh, jsonline now looks like USA Today - which is to be expected given their new corporate overlords, but I remember when USA Today was new and I didn't like its look even then. I don't see a subscriber-login thing so far (in the small sample of poking around I just did), so maybe there is a brief honeymoon period.
  5. I realize this reply belongs more in the What's bugging you? thread, but I get annoyed when we can't enter the parking lot of a place to eat because the drive-thru line extends back to the parking lot entrance.
  6. Right?! Bidding farewell to Lucroy is tough, but having literally months to anticipate it has made it feel like less of a shock. For relievers, I figured at least one of "Willemy" would be gone by August 1. I was hoping it would be only one of them, or if they both left, that it would be to the same team and the Willemy pair would be preserved. So of course none of that happened and they're both gone to other teams. We can understand the big picture and still be sad about it. It was extra satisfying to have Jeremy back in Milwaukee, and succeeding, after his first stint with the Brewers. Thus his departure stings a little extra. I'm going to admit that I can't get excited about rooting for the Rangers, but if they see the postseason with either Jeremy or Jonathan, I'll be happy for "our" guys. Like others, I appreciate your sharing this, Josh. Hope you don't become a stranger around bf.net.
  7. Aww, August 27 is the only game we *don't* have tickets for in that series. Otherwise I'd find a way to drop by and say hello. Sounds like your seat will be quite good, though. Are you visiting with a rooting interest for either team, or primarily to see the ballpark?
  8. Arrrgh, I heard Sophia Minnaert say "AR-cia" in one sentence and "Ar-CI-a" in the very next sentence. Thankfully the radio team seems to have it down - Levering and Grindle, at least.
  9. Got that right...she said from the library.
  10. Welcome, Steve81. I took the liberty of editing your thread title so it's more descriptive. If you're okay with sharing the information, which game(s) are you attending, and do you have tickets yet? (Not that obtaining tickets should be a problem, but if you haven't yet, we could probably crowdsource some seating suggestions.)
  11. I get the big picture, but I'm still going to struggle to keep a stiff upper lip.
  12. Some nuggets on Lord Zaun... He had 8 games in his Brewers career with more than 1 hit. He caught the pitching staff to a 5.42 ERA (4.58 Team ERA). His CS percentage was 24 percent in a league that was 29 percent. He was better than league average in just 4 of his 16 seasons. The Brewers won 10 of the 27 games when he was their primary catcher. He was better than a lot of the stiffs mentioned in this thread, but for a team that had made history just two years earlier to turn to him as a starter was an insult to fans. And how about Ken Macha leaving him in all night on April 28, 2010...The game goes 14 innings, 4 hours 39 minutes. And Zaun catches every one of 249 pitches, as a 39 year old. And they lose. 2010 me was annoyed that the team store offered Gregg Zaun shirseys AT FULL PRICE all season and never (during that season) sold Lucroy shirseys. I had my own Lucroy shirsey made at the park in May 2010. I will say this: greggzaun.com was a hell of a website prior to and during his Brewers time. It's much more polished now, with no mention of Zaunbie Nation and no more autoplay of "Limelight" by Rush. The Internet Archive Wayback Machine isn't giving me the access I'd hoped for to the original website, but you can get an idea of how epic it was from this Deadspin piece: http://deadspin.com/5279410/the-mask-of-zaun-o
  13. I still call him Carne Estrada. I think I picked that up here. Maybe someone's wife or GF used that nickname?
  14. On Friday 7/29 I'll get one of these shirts, but the design is not my cup of tea: http://www.stadiumgiveawayexchange.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Milwuakee-Brewers-Free-T-Shirt-7-29-2016.jpg I like the design of the 8/12 shirt a lot better, despite its busy design, but we can't go to that game: http://www.stadiumgiveawayexchange.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Milwuakee-Brewers-Free-T-Shirt-8-12-2016.jpg If you're going to the August 12 game and don't like the shirt design, I'd be happy to trade a gray shirt for an XL of the navy shirt. Send me a PM if you're interested. If we make arrangements before July 29, I can pick up either M or XL, whichever you prefer. Thanks!
  15. As of the bottom of the 4th, no explanation for Villar's removal has been forthcoming on the radio broadcast.
  16. Tonight will be the 25th game we've attended this season, over almost four months, yet the first time we've seen Matt pitch. Our games were all started by either Jimmy, Zach or Wily until early July when we finally saw Junior. We've yet to see a Chase Anderson start as well.
  17. Adam McCalvy just tweeted that the scoring on the game-ending play was changed to a passed ball on Lucroy. Still wince-worthy.
  18. That was a wince-worthy ending, even just listening on the radio.
  19. This may be as close as the 2016 Brewers get to a genuine laugher. Treasure the feeling.
  20. I was hoping (probably naively) that Pokemon Go might stay outside my workplace - though I know it's on campus. (I've been out of the office this last week, i.e. still the majority of Pokemon Go's life.) Then I saw my employer's Facebook page triumphantly posting that our building has three Pokestops and HEY EVERYONE STOP BY. It's not the rest of the world's fault that I never got into video games, and for people who like the game, I'm largely live-and-let-live. But if a patron comes into my office looking for a critter, I will not be receptive.
  21. Someone last Sunday told me they had clocks in the team store for $40. I didn't look for myself.
  22. The lead post lineups now reflect the late scratch of Matt Holliday and replacement with Tommy Pham.
  23. The thing that stood out for me was that the Brewers managed to play a whole game without a weather delay.
  24. I hear you on that. My short torso results in the railing disrupting my view from row 1 of many sections.
