  1. Guy is 2nd in the league in HR's, and plays decent D. I don't think he's quite ready to be a backup.
  2. certainly not coming around and spouting silliness during a 1-10 stretch.
  3. I'm almost positive someone asks this in like every other game thread. I'm pretty sure if they were going to do this, they'd have done it by now.
  4. Come on.....phiiiiies, light Kintzler up like a freaking Christmas Tree......
  5. Smith went from 'virtually unhittable' to 'can't get guys out at all' in the space of a couple weeks. Good thing Gorzo's been decent so far since he's come back. Most of the rest of this pen is pretty 'meh' right now.
  6. I'm not even surprised. We're going to get swept by a team that was 3 - 13 in the last 2+ weeks. In our own park.
  7. Garza is our ace right now. 10 days ago, people were like "WE WAZTED 50 MILLIUN DOLLERZZ!!"
  8. Yup, and that's a huge plus for the Brewers as he's still awfully good and almost certainly the leader of that team. Same with Phillips. If they are both out 8-12 weeks (I haven't seen yet for BP), but that's a huge gain from the Brewers perspective. What's the word on how long Votto is going to be out?
  9. Just watched the Buehrle video where he was talking about his perfect game. He's like "it doesn't make sense to talk to a guy the first 4-5 innings, and then not talk about what's going on the last innings" Basically.......he said the superstition part of it is dumb.
  10. Block and Hamilton were talking about this on the radio the other day, and I have to agree with BLock. He's like "you know, I can understand the guys in the dugout not talking about it near the pitcher, not wanting to amp him up or whatever, but the idea that someone in a radio booth or message board or somewhere saying a word can influence the events on the field....that's just dumb" (Obviously paraphrasing, but that's the gist of what he said) And I agree with him. I know it's one of baseball's little 'isms'...but it's a stupid one.
  11. Well, if nothing else, this bullpen has well and truly been napalmed.
  12. This is what's driving me nuts. Not that we're playing bad baseball right now, but NOBODY ELSE THAT WE NEED TO LOSE IS LOOOOOOSING!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
  13. We have been assured that this division race is, in fact, over. Don't even worry about those teams.
  14. Good night for Gomez after being dropped back into the leadoff spot.
  15. I feel like pitchers made some adjustments in how they threw to him, and Jean just hasn't made the adjustments back. His approach at the plate always seems to be the same. They've adjusted by basically not throwing him strikes. At least not lately. He's seemingly swinging at virtually everything. 13 walks in like 350 PA's would seem to back that statement up.
  16. Not a lot of other options. We have Wooten, Smith, and K-Rod left. Smith can't pitch everyday (and hasn't been all that good lately anyways), K-Rod is "the closer" so only pitches in the 9th with a 1 to 3 run lead, and Wooten sucks too.
  17. Melvin is on the phones everyday looking for ways to improve the team right now. Trades don't happen overnight.
  18. Yeah, it's a rough stretch. But to go from one of the best teams in baseball to a team that suddenly can't score runs and is on the verge of losing 7 out of 8 is a bit beyond rough stretch to me. That said, the team itself doesn't seem to be showing any emotion or frustrations by the losing. Maybe that's a good thing, but I think people just want to see a little fire from the guys once in awhile during the rough times. My point is, unless you're the '27 Yankees, you WILL go through a stretch like this. I don't know what you want to see.....Roenicke on the top step of the dugout, screaming at guys? Would that make you feel better about how things are going? It might, but it certainly won't help the clubhouse. THese guys know what's at stake. To suggest they don't is silly.
  19. I don't buy the "they just aren't trying" and "don't want to win" comments. Of course they want to win. OBVIOUSLY they are trying. Did people expect to go through a 162 game season without a rough stretch? Until the Blue Jays series, the Brewers and Dodgers were the only teams in MLB to not get swept this year. That's nuts. We're playing some bad ball. It happens. Saying "they don't want to win" is just stupid. I know it's the "game thread" and it's for knee jerk reactions, but "they don't want to win" is a false statement, wherever you say it.
  20. Someone e-mail Anderson and let him know runs are NOT, in fact, at an 'all time low'.
