  1. Well, Rutledge appears to be well on his way to making up for Rickie's gaffe.
  2. I understand that, but Rickie has culpability for that runner being on base to begin with. Believe me, when both guys stole without even a throw, I wanted to throw things at the tv.
  3. One - Peralta's to blame for letting Stubbs move up to 2nd on the steal. Stubbs would never have been on base if Rickie had handled a routine double play ball.
  4. Schroeder: "I don't think it matters where Tulowiski is the way he hits." Or, you know, with the internet, you could just look up his home/road splits and see that on the road, he's pretty much average. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=tulowtr01&year=2014&t=b
  5. My thoughts exactly. Though I wonder, for all we make about the Brewers struggling against rookies/high ERA types, are there actually stats to support that they actually do so? And do they really tend to hit ace-types well? It's not just the Brewers that this happens to. Look what Mike Fiers did his first time through the league. When there's not a lot of pitch data on guys, they can be deceptively good because batters haven't seen them before. Look what Cal Eldred did his first time through the AL in 1992. Also, does anyone remember Steve Woodard's first career start? http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/MIL/MIL199707281.shtml Chris Saenz http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/saenzch01.shtml Anyone that thinks this only happens to the Brewers is just selectively forgetting the many times Brewers pitchers have come up and been aces for a day or a few months.
  6. I know this forum loves Dunn, but I'd rather not spend 7.5 mil on a guy like him. Any positive value he provides is instantly offset by his defense. If we're going to spend that kind of money for half a season, I'd prefer it to be on a very clear upgrade, not a marginal (at best) upgrade.
  7. Over a full season the difference in defense is likely 5-7 runs. Weeks has 7.9 runs created vs LHers so far compared to -0.4 for Gennett. So yes its worth it. Both Fangraphs and BR have Rickie as being way below that for defensive runs. I'd argue that the difference between Weeks and Gennett defensively is more than 5 to 7 runs over 162 games.
  8. The bigger problem here is Weeks defense has been horrificly bad this year. The question we have to ask is this. Is Gennett's hitting vs. lefties worse than Weeks' defense? Weeks is a -.9 DWAR in only 19 starts in the field. That's not bad, that's horrendously bad. Scoot is just about average (actually just slightly below, per BR) but there's a huge difference between he and Weeks on D. Is it actually doing the team any good by platooning Gennett with Weeks?
  9. As I pointed out in the game thread....that's somewhat deceptive because he gets the platoon advantage of being hid from his weakness. 87% of his PA's are against righties. He only has 31 PA's against lefties. I'm not making the argument that Scooter isn't valuable, just that the numbers that he puts up don't paint an entirely accurate picture of his abilities.
  10. June 21, and both our 1B are OPS-ing below .700 now.
  11. Exactly. He's exceedingly mediocre, but all you hear is how absolutely terrible he is. His ERA is just over 3. His FIP is 4 1/2. He's certainly not good, but he's not 'terrible' either.
  12. Marco could have just as easily given up that HR to Dickerson. Didn't need to bring in Duke to do that.....
  13. This looked like a game the 'pen was going to have to eat up 5 or 6 innings. Getting Marco through 6 after the rocky (ha!) start will be huge.
  14. I don't think Brantley was the type of prspect that would have kept us from offering an extension to go-go.
  15. Think of the angst if both Lucroy and Brantley were putting up .900+ OPS's in Cleveland this year......
