  1. Oh, I don't doubt that it's legitimate. It's just very WEIRD this season when the Brewers need a roster spot for a returning player, something really bizarre happens. Need a roster spot? Almonte gets hit in the face by a thrown ball. Need a roster spot? Braddock has a sleeping disorder. What's going to happen when Greinke's ready to come back tomorrow???
  2. Yeah, my statement was probably more like "Keeping Kotsay is fine *sigh*"........
  3. Nope, but somewhere Donald Trump is sitting by himself and smiling.and demanding to see a death certificate.http://www.summitdaily.com/apps/pbcsi.dll/bilde?Site=SD&Date=20110503&Category=LETTER&ArtNo=110509977&Ref=AR&Profile=1078&maxw=300&MaxH=300
  4. Not only is the thread 26 pages, there have been 3-4 recaps alone. At this point you could recap the recaps.
  5. This. Much better way of wording it than mine.
  6. Interesting that both of them had exactly a 0.6 WAR last year, according to fangraphs. Given that, I think it's fair to say that a 2nd year player should be expected to see an increase in production from year 1 to year 2, though it's not at all a given of course.
  7. This year, they both suck. BetAncourt, probably a little less so. He's provided a few doubles and sacrifice flies, whereas Escobar's offensive 'contributions' over in KC are pitcher-esque. What's arguable (to some) is how much the difference in defense offsets. However, my argument is predicated on the fact that predictively, the Brewers would have been better off with Escobar than BetAncourt. Not many would have predicted Escobar's offense, to this point, to be so rotten. Predictions only go so far though. My argument has never been that we should have kept Escobar however.
  8. I understand sending Estrada down. NEED to keep him stretched out in the event that Narveson doesn't get his stuff together, or a SP gets hurt. Sending Boggs down for Morgan is fine, keeping Kotsay is fine, but if they bring back Almonte instead of Boggs when they go back to 12 pitchers.......then that'll be a head scratcher.
  9. Ok, does EVERY thread have to be about Betencourt? This is a thread about Gallardo, and here we are arguing about Betencourt again. Funny, I was being accused of repeatedly posting about my hate for Betencourt. At least I kept it in ONE thread about BETENCOURT.
  10. Yeah, there's a common theme in the early season, and it definitely seems to be 'snatching defeat from the jaws of victory'. Now, popular theory holds that this will 'all even out' over the course of 162 games. No. No it doesn't. If you blow a 3 run lead today in ugly fashion by kicking the ball around or whatever and lose, that does NOT mean that there is some cosmic, balancing force that will cause you to win a game you should have lost somewhere down the road. Each game is in it's entirety, a separate event from all those before and after, and can not in any way, shape or form be subjected to some 'balance' that will make sure that things don't get too far out of whack. Each of these ugly early season losses that you look at and say "Ugh. That was a W" is something that will be looked at if/when the team lands a few games short of a playoff spot.
  11. Funny you bring Alcides up. I caught this on Fangraphs yesterday. http://www.fangraphs.com/...-magnified-incompetence/ Do we have a new 'worst player' in baseball? Probably not, as the Royals fans are talking about his 'Insane Defense'. Couple things here..... As many have said, Escobar is having an awful season, at the least, at the plate. No one is arguing that. I do think most will still feel that he has a higher ceiling than YuniB. That doesn't mean he'll reach said ceiling, and it certainly doesn't mean people expect him to be better than YuniB this year, but that's really, a completely different discussion. Secondly, I recall several posters, including myself, calling YuniB *one of* the worst starters in baseball, which is significantly different than the accusation that he is *the worst* player in baseball. Context is important.
  12. Suppan had a long track record of being almost exactly league average. Betencourt has a long track record of barely being replacement level. There's a huge difference there.
  13. No bat flip for him on that swing? I can't wait til he gets one in the ribs for doing his bat flip on one of his 295 foot fly balls.
  14. This may be a matter of perception, but I just don't recall this offense putting up (m)any crooked numbers this year. A 2 hitter with a .280-ish OBP, coupled with a 5-8 that's more or less been........awful, and the chance for 3-4-5 run innings just really seems to not be there. I'd guess having even a .335 OBP guy in the 2 spot would give Braun and Fielder another 5-6 RBI between the 2 of them.
  15. Or if YuniB had been able to bend at his waist on the ball Uggla hit in the hole.
  16. Let me rephrase then. He doesn't look as bad to his left as he does to his right. And Yo's meltdown continues.........
  17. Yo's pitch count wasn't that high coming into this inning, but he's really hitting the wall. Get someone up.
  18. It seems like Betencourt does ok moving to his left, but to shots in the hole he just has no range. Of course, if Fielder holds onto that popup, that play never happens.
  19. I cannot figure out Pakistan. They are all over the map. I've heard they help fund the Taliban, and I've heard they are cooperate with US intelligence. I've heard they never thought Bin Laden was in their country, and I've heard they helped lead us to him. And all the while he was living in a mansion near a Pakistani military training base, reportedly. What the heck?Like someone else said ............they got some 'splainin' to do.
  20. Well there we go, only took 5 minutes to find that archive footage.
  21. Ugly inning for Narvy. TERRIBLE baserunning mistake completely bailed him out there. Hmm.......that must be how opposing fans see Carlos Gomez. The guy that's ruining our run scoring chances with awful baserunning.
  22. On the replay, it looked like he didn't go all the way back, but it's hard to say because none of the camera angles, not one, seem to show Wallace's feet at any time.
  23. Be nice if even one camera man would have been able to see Wallace's feet there. Oh well, I'll take it!
  24. Ya. I realize the catcher sets a target, but Narveson's the one that threw the pitch.
