  1. The awesome thing about being a fan is that no one else can tell you HOW to be a fan.
  2. Don't read the game threads. Those are mostly about knee jerk reaction stuff anyways. That's why I tend to stay out of them. Coming on here trying to MAKE people not hate a guy they're predisposed to not like is like clapping with one hand. It can't be done. Stupid nicknames happen. It's part of sports.
  3. I'm just wondering how long this argument about Betencourt's crappy defense is going to rage. Who cares if it's glove or range? He sucks.
  4. I have to work, but I have cable in my office, so I'm all set.
  5. No Geno, David, Robert, and some of the other older (timeline, not age guys) posters are here rarely or not at all anymore. I also haven't seen Russ around either.
  6. He says he's committed to getting on base this year. That's pretty much his whole focus is OBP. We shall see....Good talking point. And should be the focus, for a leadoff hitter. His walk rates used to be pretty good. He only took 31 walks last year. That concerns me. Batting average fluctuates a lot from year to year. Walk rate should not, for the most part.
  7. This often gets overlooked. I think the year before last, I did my own personal study, where I took the 5-6 guys from each team who had the most at bats besides the starting 9 throughout all of baseball, and got a composite OPS under .700. That being said, however, it still behooves a team to get the 4-5 BEST guys that they can on the bench. If you have a guy who you THINK might be able to OPS .730 and play utility defense, and a guy who you think might OPS around .700, why not keep the .730 OPS guy? In this case, if Melvin honestly feels that Kotsay will outperform Boggs, ok, I can live with that. I would disagree with that assessment though. I do realize that .730 is more than Boggs has done at the MLB level, albeit in less than a seasons' worth of at bats, and I think there's at least a slight chance you get lightning in a bottle and get a slash line like .260/.320/.430 out of him.
  8. But if you signed Reyes, you'd be adding a premier player and could get by with a minimum wage Gamel at first and a relatively cheap Gomez in CF. I say go after Reyes. He's the best guy out there. Reyes dipped significantly on offense last year. His numbers were down across the board. I don't know if it's attributable to coming off an injury, but the thing that worries me most is his walk rate just plummeted last year. I'd want to see a big bounce back year from him this year or I'd not be wanting to commit a lot of dollars to the guy.
  9. While SS is a big concern, with the Morgan trade, i think people feel a little better about the CF spot. If Boggs had been at least kept over Kotsay, i think there would be less angst over the bench because he's not only younger and better, he can switch hit, while Kotsay couldn't hit lefties if the pitcher put the ball on a tee for Kotsay. It may be a small move, but it truly is a baffling decision. At least with Boggs, there was a chance, however small, of catching a little bit of lightning in a bottle, and the guy having a good year in reserve. With Kotsay, I just don't see the possibility that he outperforms the numbers he's put up recently.
  10. When allocating those FA dollars, keep in mind we'll for sure be looking to fill a huge hole at first base, and may also be looking for a CFer as well.
  11. I finally launched myself full force into Netflix, and it's like my crack now.........so I've watched a lot of movies lately, and have gotten to watch some that I otherwise wouldn't have. 2012. While not as bad as I expected it to be, it was basically The Day After Tomorrow with earthquakes instead of blizzards. Ridiculously schlocky, and one of the few films in which I don't like how they used Oliver Platt 5/10 District 9. Interesting film. Wasn't sure what to expect. I'm not a real big fan of the low budget Blair Witch/Cloverfield camera work, but it didn't take away from the movie. I always enjoy movies without any A-list castings, as you don't have any pre-conceived notions about how the actors are supposed to behave. 7/10 Wasabi. Loved it. 8/10 The A-Team. I got exactly what I expected out of this. Guns, explosions, a few witty one-liners. 6/10 Planet 51. Just not a very well done movie. Plot kind of lurches along, and there's just not much humor here. Dwayne Johnson needs to go back to wrestling, and just stay there. 4/10 Despicable Me. Liked it. Good story, some enjoyable humor, and enough 'adult' in it to keep me there for the duration. 7/10 Zombieland. Loved it. Woody Harrelson's finest moment (IMO) Much better than I expected. I didn't even mind Eisenberg in this one, who usually ranks up there with Cera on the 'actors I just can't stand' list for me. 8/10 Up. I had already seen this a while back, but the wife wanted to watch it again. This may be the best animated film I've ever seen. Carl is one of the best characters Disney has ever put out. Ed Asner's work was fantastic 9.5/10 Metropolis. I had seen the 2001 animated version a while back, and really liked it, so I figured I'd gut it out and watch the old silent film. I had nothing to do at work yesterday, and often sit for 2-3 hours at a time with nothing to do on Sundays, so I gave it a go on the instant queue. Interesting. Not something I'd watch over and over, but I enjoyed it. Those types of stories always keep me interested, and it was obviously visionary for it's time. I'll give it a solid 7/10 Up next in the queue...... Inception From Paris With Love Once Upon a Time in the West Silverado Legion
  12. I can understand that. But, for me, the injustice and indifference of the universe to Cage's actions made it of a piece with Werner Herzog's filmography. He just channelled his normal pessimism in a new direction. Robert Ironically, while I didn't like the movie, or perhaps, didn't like the resolution, I can honestly say it's one of Cage's few very good performances in recent memory.
  13. You'd run a huge risk of benching Gomez after his fine spring. Don't forget Morgan put up a lousy .633 OPS last year (compared to Gomez' .655) and he lacks the power Gomez has. Despite his speed, Morgan gets thrown out a lot trying to steal. Gomez is the better base stealer. I'm not so sure Morgan is the better player. I'm not sure I want to judge guys on spring stats. Reed hit .393, Almonte hit .382 and Zealous Wheeler hit .379. Those numbers don't really mean squat to me. Until Gomez learns how to consistently draw walks at at least a 1/10 ratio of walks per AB, he's an offensive liability. There's enough history to suggest that he likely won't do what he needs to do to not be a liability. I'm not saying that this means Morgan will outplay Gomez, I'm just not going to put much stock in Gomez's spring numbers.
  14. Is it the players or the offense though? Who on this team can take people off the dribble? Taylor only a little and Bruiser. When your 2 and 3 cant do it you are in trouble and that is where the Badgers were. When Harris was here and even Hughes when was healthy. We had guys who penetrated. We just have not been able to recruit that guy who can penetrate. I was not trying to blame Taylor for not posting up. The whole team does not do it, and for the life of me I cant understand why. Leuer just did not post up enough and Nankavil had no moves so maybe that is my answer. I agree with your assessment of the team, but I dont think the swing is to blame. Maybe recruiting, because they opportunities to drive are there, they just are not taken. Those guys, for the most part, are not going to come to Wisconsin so they can play in the swing offense.
  15. Leuer is a jumpshooter, but he CAN play inside. Taylor can play inside, but he's not. This is no different than when they relied completely on Alondo Tucker or Devin Harris, and then had the role playing guys around them. Bruesewitz is, for all intents and purposes, Joe Krabbenhoft. IMO, they're very similar to most Bo Ryan teams for the past decade.
  16. Bad Lietenant SPOILER alert....... Robert, I didn't like Bad Lietenant at all. At the end of the film, he suffered ZERO consequences for his actions. I guess that was kind of the point, but it just left a bad taste in my mouth. I was literally sitting there thinking "SERIOUSLY? NOTHING? This is crap!"
  17. It's one thing to have a poor shooting night, but to just keep heaving jumper after jumper while passing up open shots is not excusable. Getting outhustled to EVERY loose ball is not excusable.
  18. Sickening. I don't know how this team wins 25 games every year. When the jump shot doesn't fall, they can do NOTHING.
  19. 6 minutes until they made a bucket in the 2nd half.
  20. Take the ball down, pass around for 30-ish seconds..........settle for a crappy jump shot with a hand in the face. I don't get it.
  21. I've played around with chrome. To me, it's a useability/functionality/familiarity. I try to stay pretty current with most of the browsers that are out there, as they'll all come up in my job on a weekly basis. Heck, I even have Opera on one of my home desktops. Speed's not normally a BIG issue for me, but for the few days I did use Firefox4, it was an absolute dog. Overall, I really like what Firefox brings to the table for several reasons, first and foremost the crazy level of customization. Like you said, the ability to remember zoom settings per site is AWESOME. When I'm at work, I have up to 6 monitors, and the last one can be a ways away, and I need to use the zoom for certain websites, just to make them visible from a distance, and not having to consistently readjust it is nice, obviously. I'm going to stick with Firefox, but not switch to 4 just yet.
  22. I used it on a work laptop for about 3 days before I went back to 3.6 for now. SLOW isn't descriptive enough. I know firefox is not the 'fastest' browser out there, but my goodness, 4 is just a dog.
  23. Regarding the "Have it of you don't" comment on plate discipline. Richie Sexson comes immediately to mind as a guy who didn't take walks at all when he came up, but ended up being an 80-90 walk guy later on. Now granted, that's just one example off the top of my head, but I'm sure there's more.
  24. Attendance may be fairly stable- though it's way down since Karl broke up the Big 3. I'm more concerned about the general apathy toward the Bucks, statewide, but particularly in Milwaukee. Many people pay little or no attention to the team and are either resigned to the fact that they will move and/or don't care. This is me in a nutshell. I haven't gone to a single game since then. I've watched MAYBE 2 games this year, and don't listen on the radio. I read the box scores, and I keep up to date on the standings, but I just can't bring myself to boost my intrest level enough to ........be interested.
