  1. You are spot on, which is exactly why pitchers are babies these days. Nolan Ryan once said this in an interview. Do they have 'pitch count' limits in little league yet? Even back when I played, they had limits on innings one guy could throw, but that was in place more to neutralize dominant pitchers. How can you run a marathon when you have been trained to run sprints your whole life?Nolan Ryan >>>>> 99% of all guys who have ever pitched. Using a guy who's basically the gold standard as the benchmark for everyone else is a recipe for disaster. There's guys in the 1900's who pitched 400 innings. MOST of them had brutally short careers. Of course, we love to point out Cy Young, Pud Galvin, and a few others as examples of why throwing 600 innings isn't bad for a pitcher, but it is. You can't take the guys from the very top of a sample and say "this is what EVERYONE should be able to do.
  2. Should and can are 2 different things. Plenty of people CAN run a marathon. However, if a sprinter who's never run more than 2 miles consecutively in his life goes out tomorrow and tries to run 26 miles, something is going to wrong. It's not about what people used to do, or what pitchers in the 40's were able to do. Guys today are conditioned to pitch roughly 100 pitches, every 5 days, with probably a bullpen session in the middle of that stretch. And the fact of it is that a bullpen session can't nearly be as stressful on an arm as going out and trying to get batters out. As someone else said, the act of pitching is an unnatural motion, and breaking that cycle or throwing a guy's body clock off like that CAN have long term effects.
  3. I don't care if he's annoyed by fans, as long as he goes out there every 5 days and does his thing.
  4. This excerpt from Fan Graphs.......yeah, I was literally laughing out loud after I read this.......... We aren't charging up San Juan Hill, Jason. Nick Wright isn't an enemy soldier and Moustakas doesn't need to be protected. He wasn't even being attacked. Go oil your mitt somewhere and work on posting an OBP over .300 in your soul-crushing and needless final year with the Royals.
  5. Wow, I mean, what a douche. The question was very legitimate.
  6. Everyone's thinking it, if not outright saying it...... This is HUGE for the Brewers. On a personal level, I feel bad for the guy, I've had TJ surgery and the rehab is more or less awful, but on a baseball level, this is a huge plus for the Brewers. Without Wainright, the Cardinals don't stack up to the Crew on the pitching front at all.
  7. So pretty much like Kotsay.Who's to say Branyan would be ok with that kind of role? He DID have an .810 OPS with 25 dingers last year. And yet people still think his ideal role is as a PHer, probably getting about 70-ish plate appearances for the course of the season.
  8. I started this thread a few hours ago, and I'm still scratching my head about this. I'm just stunned about the amount of money this guy earned for one season in which he quadrupled his normal home run output.
  9. http://sports.espn.go.com...11/news/story?id=6129630 There's been a few folks leery of the Weeks deal because he's had 'one good year'. Some (including myself) would argue that he's had one great year, and several injury hampered years in which he put up good number while on the field. Well, Bautista's had one amazing year, and a bunch of bad years. Before this season, his career's highest OPS was .757, Age 30, with about 5 full seasons worth of previously being a poor hitter at the MLB level, does anyone expect Bautista to be a .900+ OPS guy going forward? They just got rid of Vernon Wells' awful contract, and are going right back into doling out stupid (and unnecesarry, Bautista is still a year from free agency) contracts.
  10. Re-signing either Greinke or Marcum, (IMO) precludes being able to afford Prince long term.
  11. Pujols to the Cubs would be to Cardinal fans what Favre to the VIkings was to Packer fans. After he's gone, they'll all realize the crap he does that pisses off other teams and fan bases.
  12. Couple things here ........ The first, and most obvious question is this....... how does this affect Prince Fielder when he goes to FA next year? Drive his price up? Down? I have no illusions, none, that he's within the Brewers realm of affordability. I see a 0% chance of him being a Brewer in 2012. I'm just curious where Pujols going onto the FA market puts Prince. There's only so many teams out there with buckets of money, and most of them won't be needing a 1B/DH type. Secondly, this all reinforces my feelings that Pujols is one of the biggest jerks in baseball. He demands the biggest contract in history, while at the same time making the Cardinals promise that they'll be competitive through the life of his contract. Has Albert ever heard that you can't have your cake, and eat it too? I don't begrudge the guy a payday, but what he's asking for isn't reasonable or realistic, within the context of telling the Cards to be competitive when they'll have 40% of their payroll sunk into 2 players. I guess I just get tired of the media painting him as a saint because he has photo ops at charity events. I'm a lot more impressed with athletes who take part in fund raisers or charity events in which they don't have a photographer and writer following them around, chronicling their philanthropic ways. Doesn't really strike me as genuine. I hope he ends up with the Cubs, and they win no more than 70 games for his 10 year stay in that dump down on the Northside.
  13. That abomination is in a nutshell, why I couldn't care less about the NHL anymore. I am NOT anti-violence. I truly am not. I just find it laughable that the players can't play the game without the threat of a good beat down keeping them from slashing each others heads and faces up with sticks. When players fist fight in ANY other sport (except boxing or MMA, lolz), they're suspended. In the NHL, for some reason, it's good for a few minutes sit down, and then back out you go.
  14. For the most part this year, watching this offense has been the proverbial 'watching paint dry'. Obviously, in this game, they lit it up for the 2nd half, and yeah, obviously, that was fun to watch. I'm just saying, for the most part, their offense is pretty........boring.
  15. Yeah, you can do this with the Badgers just about every year. I will say that this team is not exactly 'fun' to watch, but you can't deny a 19-5 record. Just like every year, I look at the roster, I look at the schedule, and I think 'hm.........we lost so and so, and we lost this guy, probably looking like about a 19-11 team, about .500 in conference" And every year, they prove me wrong. Just would like to see a deep tourney run again. It's been a while.
  16. Some of those proposed domes in the 60's were AWFUL looking.
  17. Now I know people will say this is a football topic, or whatever, but I don't think it's just football. In general, I don't see many performers, be it football, baseball (you know, like all star game or world series game) who treat the Anthem with any kind of reverence anymore. They all gotta 'make it their own' or whatever, by making one syllable words into 8 syllable words. Or singing the lines wrong. Or in the case of those idiots in Chicago, cheering wildly during the entire singing of the anthem. I'm not much of a fuddy duddy or a person who puts much stock in 'tradition'. Maybe it's the little bit of a patriot or whatever in me, who knows. I'm just tired of seeing the anthem butchered, disrespected, and just generally apparently not meaning anything to these people who can't perform it properly (or in teh case of those idiots in Chicago, respect it during the singing of it). Tell me I'm wrong, tell me I'm too old fashioned, whatever. Not asking you to agree. It just bugs me.

  19. It's right in my company's contract that there is no expectation of privacy when browsing or checking email on a work computer. Lucky for me I work from home, so I have my laptop on my own home connection right at my desk for personal browsing.
  20. Given some of the parting shots JJ took at the front office, I don't see that as even a remote possibility.
  21. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=6027417 Good price tag I guess. Doesn't look like it buys out any free agency though. Looks like the Reds just wanted some cost certainty.
  22. Yeah, our placement on that list makes zero sense. I just posted it (should have posted it in blue) as a discussion piece.
  23. http://www.speedtest.net/result/1113138858.png My work connection is 50 down and 5 up, but I can't post on forums from my work computer.
  24. Behind only Cleveland and the Cubs fans. http://sports.espn.go.com...y_index&sportCat=mlb
  25. Didn't Jim Callis say we were 'dead last' going into his 2011 rankings BEFORE the Greinke trade? Now Callis isn't the be all end all authority, but he's not the only guy that's saying our farm system is stripped. I've read at least a few national guys who have said the same thing. Now GRANTED, the national guys aren't going to be as knowledgeable about the system, but I do not think it's a stretch at all right now to call the farm system's prospects "bad" as it relates to the expected major league talent it may produce.
