  1. At the same time... the team is near the top of the NL Central, and this last road trip is going to be 5-6 at worst. Given the past road performance, it's pretty good. Long-term I think both Gamel and Green will be contributors to the team - and I think that if Prince walks (almost a given), Gamel mans first, and Green mans third.
  2. Green is a different hitter than Gamel. Green's more like Cirillo, in that he is a high-average hitter who draws walks and hits a lot of doubles. Gamel is more of a poor man's Prince Fielder.
  3. I hope Taylor Green is not one of the PTBNL. He could be an option at third - seeing as he's recovered, puts up high average, draws walks, hits a lot of doubles. If he is in front of Braun, Hart, and Gamel, he could be pretty good as a starter at third. Of course, if Prince extends...
  4. However, a Brewers dynasty, combined with better TV revenues, could be helpful. Teams regularly in the playoffs will draw well. I'd go for Marcum first - an extension in the neighborhood of 4/40 keeps him in Milwaukee through 2015. Then go to Prince and Greinke to lock them in for 4/70 each. If not... take the picks.
  5. Good. That actually will increase the chances of Prince staying a Brewer.
  6. I think everybody would rather have Greinke and Marcum instead of Weeks. Unfortunately Greinke will likely cost a boatload of money. Think CC or Lee money as a starting point. That is not within our budget unless something pretty drastic happens with revenue sharing. Greinke, like Fielder, is not a realistic target right now. By comparison Weeks would only get half as much money even as the highest paid 2B. Plus, the Brewers would need Weeks to have a hope of keeping Greinke in the fold. Sign Weeks and Marcum, then try to get Greinke in the fold.
  7. I agree. If Prince is all but certainly gone, then the Brewers need to keep Weeks. That was Gord Ash thinking?
  8. He'd be okay, as far as 2B goes, better D, and more speed. But Rickie's pop would be very helpful if/when Prince walks.
  9. Weeks has missed about 1/3 of the games in his five full ML seasons: He appeared in 539 out of 810 games. However, he did seem to put it all together. I'd offer Weeks a six-year, $62 million deal.
  10. The bullpen could be better: Closer: Axford Setup: Braddock SR: Stetter/Saito MR: Hawkins/Loe LR: Parra
  11. I cringe when I think about this outfield defensively. I think you need the Gomez/Dickerson platoon for just that reason. I like the offense in that lineup. It works for me. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. That could work... I'd go for that. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. Considering the alternative was Gomez... Cain looks good. Had it been from, say, Corey Hart in center to Cain, we'd be more easygoing about the deal.
  14. It could be longer if Weeks, Greinke, and Marcum sign extensions. If Fielder also extends... Doug has built a good team. The extensions are the X factor here, I think. If they all walk, Doug's not long for GM, but eleven years is a good run.
  15. I love prince, but is rather spend the money extending marcum and grienke. But a good chance of winning for several years might induce Greinke to take a discount. Marcum might be locked up with a Gallardo-type deal. Long shot, but worth it. But Rickie and Prince are important, too. Geinke and Marcum cannot win if the offense cannot score runs.
  16. Boras works for Prince, not the other way around. Has Prince made any comments on the trade?
  17. This is a really good point. I can see them overpaying on a Weeks extension just a bit so they don't have another glaring position hole for 2012.The thing is... the Brewers can really be solid if they can extend Weeks, Marcum, and Greinke. If they can extend Marcum, Weeks, Greinke, and Fielder, the Brewers may be the best in the NL Central for a while.
  18. Unless the Brewers expend Marcum and Greinke... If they can get Weeks and Prince extended as well... BONUS COOLNESS!!!
  19. With no more Lawrie or Escobar, they have to extend Weeks. The farm system's short on prospects now.
  20. Betancourt is an improvement over Escobar - .692 OPS vs. .614 from Escobar.
  21. Or... extend Prince, Marcum, Greinke, and Rickie. Prince has to feel the Brewers are serious about winning.
  22. Ben Sheets is among the free agents. Think he could be had for a reasonable price this off-season?
