The scary part is 2011 is the window. The Crew needs to go all in, because a downgrade at 1B if Fielder leaves makes making the playoffs down the road a much iffier proposition.
I haven't been so surprised. I have long felt that Green was much like Cirillo in terms of his strengths - plate discipline, ability to make contact, and he's got decent power (lots of doubles). Put it this way - he's a perfect #2 hitter.
I, though, claim the excuse of my dad's Navy career - I went Brewers for baseball, and the Bears and Bulls for basketball. In any case, Payton (running back) and Hester (return specialist) are arguably the best at their positions in the NFL's history.
Glad to see Taylor up - I'm excited. Remember Jeff Cirillo? Well, I think Taylor Green's gonna be as good as Cirillo was. Loads of doubles, good OBP, and 10-15 homes most years, with 15-20 in a good year.
I'm not sure a trade would be necessary. They could do the job. Weaver's a Boras client, and he signed a good deal for all around. If Prince stays, what's to say he doesn't sign a deal that lets the Brewers keep Grenike and Marcum?
The thing is... given that Jered Weaver extended with the Angels... is a Prince Fielder return really out of the question, especially if the Brewers are a contender? I'm not entirely sure. If Prince stays, then the Brewers look very strong.
HOW DARE YOUI was going to say, Schlitz001, you were hearing a classy, professional announcer in your head! if "John Jaha....Jaha" brought back Bob Betts' voice as it did for me. I'm really looking forward to one of the upcoming magic numbers, photo-wise. I can't say more because it would spoil the delight I'll bring you all when it happens. There's a couple I am looking forward to as well... one of which may require me to don asbestos clothing...
http://www2.pictures.gi.zimbio.com/Haier+Shooting+Stars+48SpgUVe-N7l.jpg Sorry - been a Bears - and Bulls - fan about as long as I've been a Brewers fan - a weird quirk that comes from being in a military family in the 1980s.
The slot recommendation for the number nine pick is around 2 million dollars. If the Brewers are only 500k off I would eat it and let the kid have his way. Especially since we failed to sign Covey last season. I hope the Crew does what it takes to get both in the fold.
Not in the majors, but in the minors, he had 5 games in the outfield (exact spot unknown) with Missoula, and 25 games in the outfield in El Paso (exact position unknown). He's played, but the El Paso time is his most recent, and that was in `01.
What I gathered from the report was that Lopez's slider had a tight rotation, but he tended to leave it up int he zone, where presumably, hitters could make something happen.
