  1. Sheets seems healthy this year, so far. The injuries in the past have been more freakish and not arm-related. Just what will pitching an inning and two-thirds on that knee have done? Are those guys in the minors going to be as good as Sheets/Gallardo on the mound? At this juncture, NOT signing Sheets seems to be more risky.
  2. With Gallardo's injury, Sheets must be extended. Offer him 4 years, $66M. There's just no alternative now. Edit: Provided title clarification. - Toby
  3. So far, Stetter seems to have done all right in the general situations. (pared back long quote --1992)
  4. I'd have been happy with Gabe in left field replacing Jenkins. Keep Braun at third and Hall in center. Dunno why he never got a chance to be a starter.
  5. And gee, looks like some of the slump may be shaking off... nine runs, some clutch hits, and the Brewers get the W.
  6. If Weeks, Braun, and Fielder hit like they can hit, then the Cards get clubbed like baby seals, and no need for Gagne or anyone - unless you want to have McClung go for a three-inning save.
  7. 5-4 road trip with Weeks, Braun, and Fielder slumping, a third-string center-fielder, and a starter out until today. This 11-7 record isn't that bad, if you ask me. Gagne had thrown 20, 19, and 11 pitches each of his previous outings. The last outing had been 1-2-3, the other he came in to bail out Riske. who else do you send out, Turnbow? He tends to blow up sometimes. Riske had already had a rough outing. Mota had gone two. Shouse had given up a homer. Stetter had already pitched two today.
  8. At the same time, you had a lefty in who was not only the hot hand, but would be facing two consecutive lefties. Suppan gave the Crew a quality start. Let Shouse do the LOOGY thing, then go Mota/Turnbow in the 8th and Gagne in the 9th - game over. If you ran that setup on a baseball simulation, 95% of the time, it would work. This was just one of the 5% when the plan didn't work.
  9. I think the Brewers are serving a notice on the Reds... "You got lucky."
  10. You want to give Prince a 10 year deal at about 19 per year? First of all, with three years left of arbitration that's a huge number. Second, Prince is not the guy you want to lock into 10 years with. And I don't see Sheets taking a deal anywhere near that. I think if you want 5 years for Sheets, then you're talking about a discount on the yearly salary, but still around 14 or so. Maybe 5 years, 70 million, but even that would be a hometown discount. A ten-year extension puts Fielder through his age 34 season.
  11. My thoughts? Offer Sheets five years, $55 million, particularly after this start. We have an idea of what he can do, and #1 starters are very rare in the baseball world. At the same time, offer Fielder a 10-year deal in the range of Jeter's after this year, with Braun to get a similar offer when he is arby-eligible.
  12. He and Fielder get the game balls today.
  13. Let's see: The Brewers are 8-4, doing it with Braun, Weeks, and Fielder in slumps to start the season, and we're COMPLAINING? I'm tempted to quote that famous exclamation from Chris in Team America...
  14. Dave Bush couldn't hold a lead if you spotted him two outs in an inning.
  15. I hope nobody does that, it would be the epitome of classlessness. Why should we try to interfere with his personal life? From the article about his dietary shift: My idea is based on a comment from Prince himself. I don't think that is being classless.
  16. With the Reds coming, a rested bullpen is imperative.
  17. SHUTOUT!! Ben Sheets saves the bullpen!
  18. Prince only has two doubles this season. Should we start up a Steak for Prince fund?
  19. If they get the right artificial turf, it's a good move. If they can get turf that could benefit the gap power that Rickie, Bill, Tony Jr., Corey, and Mike Cameron have, then it would give the Brewers a home-field advantage. I've been hoping for artificial turf in Miller Park for a while.
  20. Looks like that Cubs game was a fluke. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif He's hitting 94-95 with his fastball, threw 9 out of 13 pitches for strikes. That is more like it.
  21. He's hitting 94-95 with his fastball. He'll be OK, I think.
  22. I do. Then why did Parra continue the no-no through the third?
  23. Why would you say that? Why not? It's perfectly factual, and who believes in jinxes anyhow?
