  1. Brewers get: RHP Yu Darvish, IF Sho Nakata Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters get: OF/2B Hernan Irribarren, IF Yohannis Perez, 1B Stephen Chapman Thoughts? EDIT: I don't think there is anything that says the Brewers can't make a trade with a Japanese team. Edit: Added clarity to title.
  2. Jeff Suppan with another quality start... his third in the last four games (minus one baby seal outing on 7/27). OK, Soup's hot, CC's dominating more often than not, Bush is doing OK... what does this bode for the rotation?
  3. I'm going with K, all of the above. H is what rankles me the most. And L - the fact that with the three best starters available, the Crew can't pull out one flippin' win!
  4. I, for one, would be willing to see if Turnbow can get that rotator cuff healed up - and then give him the chance to come back (I'm thinking a split-level minor-league deal).
  5. Put it this way... I'd see no problem with signing Kendall to a four-year extension, provided it doesn't break the bank (say $9 million over four years).
  6. If the Cards plunk Braun, the Crew needs to plunk back - if it leads to the brawl, then that be that.
  7. [cues up a cheesy 80s song from the film adaptation of a popular cartoon] Hall's got the touch...
  8. Even when he's slumping! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  9. It's a good move this year for the Crew, too. Wolf would have been trouble if he'd been with the Cubs or Cards.
  10. There's still two more games... enough for the Cards to re-take the Wild Card lead. Let's win `em both, then celebrate.
  11. If Sheets is currently at $12, and Sabathia is at $11, then Gagne's $10 million could be divided into some reasonable salaries. Give Sheets $15 million/year over five years, and Sabathia $18 million/year over six years. The money from Mota and Turnbow could then be used to give Hart and Hardy some pretty decent long-term deals.
  12. I'm kinda hopin' it's someone on the DL or another `07 draftee...
  13. Given his lack of an injury history, and the fact he is 27, I'd be willing to give Sabathia a five-year deal with an option for two more years ($15 million/year for the five years, a $10 million bonus, and a $20 million/year in the option years). Sheets, OTOH, may warrant only four years at $14 million/year, with $18 million for the option.
  14. Was JJ second before or after he hit two into the stands today? I'd be happy to move Alicedes Escobar if it lands Linecum or Matt Cain. JJ will be just fine at short for the foreseeable future.
  15. Let's not pretend that those players are on the same level as Sheets. The Wayne Franklin trade did net the Brewers Villanueva - I would argue that the Crew won that trade.
  16. I'm all for both. Offer Ben six years, $75 million, give CC six years, $90 million. Put the offers on the table Wednesday.
  17. Imagine if the Crew can sign Sheets and Sabathia to four-year deals in the offseason... that rotation would be unstoppable next year! Sabathia, Sheets, Gallardo, Parra, Suppan Imagine Suppan as the 5th starter. Wouldn't that rotation be AWESOME????
  18. I have a sinking suspicion that Taylor Green may be one of them...
  19. JJ Hardy is a solid shortstop and can be signed long-term to a reasonably affordable salary. Escobar is more expendable than Taylor Green at this point, at least as I see it.
  20. At this point, I'd see if Calix Crabbe could net Maddux from the Padres. Then, I go back to the Indians, and tell them the drop-dead offer is Laporta, Dave Bush, and Escobar for CC.
  21. True, but it is not as if the Brewers have a bad shortstop at present in Hardy. If anything, long-term, Hardy would be above average. It's not like Craig Counsell or Royce Clayton is getting 150+ starts at shortstop. Escobar is a better trade option than Taylor Green at this point.
  22. I think that is the correct offer to make. (Unless you throw in Braddock or Cain somewhere) That is miles better than the two compensation picks that Indians receive. (Plus we save the Indians $5 Million dollars by paying CC the rest of the year) Another team could offer a package that included a better "central piece", but ours would have the most overall talent. I am thinking I can live with giving up LaPorta straight up. He doesn't really have a home, as he isn't a natural OF. But that means we need to keep Prince until he hits FA. I would rather have LaPorta at 1B, and trade Prince for starting pitching that is going to stay for a long time. Green is untouchable to me. I know he isn't on the same level as LaPorta/Gamel/Escobar yet, but he plays a very important position for the Brewers. Green can play 2B and potentially replace Weeks. (Name any other prospect that has a legitimate chance to replace Weeks?) Green is also our back-up 3B in case Gamel can't stick at 3B. And the weakest positions on the Brewers right now are 3B and 2B. I am not interested in trading away our prime contender. At least trading away LaPorta is dealing from a position of strength. (OF) As long as they have Escobar and Hardy, you shouldn't worry. Hardy could easily slide over to 3B and the way he's swinging the bat now, he's proving to have the lumber for a more offensive position. If Gamel can play third, Escobar could slide over to 2B. If not, 2B is by far the easiest position to find decent available talent. I'd rather trade Escobar. The Brewers would, at this point, be selling him high.
