  1. Believe it or not, Ricke's OBP as of the last game was .337 on his .222 batting average. His rookie season, the OBP was .333 on a .239 average. He's really improved at taking walks this year. If he were hitting at last year's clip (.279), his OBP would be over .390.
  2. Methinks today counts. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. Gross has taken his walks and he's got power. The only reason he hasn't looked as good as he did earlier is he's not played much. 84 ABs is a very small sample size. With just four singles (rather than outs), he'd be at a .250 average, with the corresponding jumps in OBP and SLG.
  4. Too bad Yost PHed for Gallardo. would have been nice to let him finish the shutout.
  5. Especially with Suppan and and Capuano coming off good starts. If only they had worked out the extension with Davis... could you imagine how much better the rotation would be with Davis instead of Vargas? Dave Bush as the #5 starter?
  6. Hold together, Cappy... one more inning.
  7. Well, Parra is up - he could get a shot at the rotation. There is the duo of Zach Jackson and Tim Dillard in Nashville, although Dillard's in the pen, and will need to readjust to starting. Call up Dillard and give him a shot.
  8. There's no reason why this year isn't "The Year" - or, more accurately, "The First Year".
  9. Only 80 innings left? Hold on. That means if the Crew is in the playoffs, then he'd not be an option if he's reached his 80 more innings figure? This might be the Crew's one shot at a World Championship, and we're counting innings. That makes less sense that relying on a tennager's Camaro to save the day.
  10. Gross would be a steal - OK, his average is low, but he has taken his walks and has flashed a fair bit of pop. In fact, he reminds me of Jeromy Burnitz.
  11. The longer Bush and Vargas are in the rotation instead of Villanueva and Gallardo, the worse the Brewers' chances are. We could fall out of playoff contention and lose the NL Central to the CUBS.
  12. First Half Review Biggest Wins: The three-game sweep against the Cardinals from April 30 to May 2. That kicked off a 9-1 homestand that put the Crew in control of the NL Central. Most Disappointing Loss: Not winning after coming back from a 9-run deficit against Minnesota. Best Single-game Hitting Performance: (TIE) Damian Miller 4-for-5, 2 HR, 7 RBI at Pittsburgh (7/2); Ryan Braun 4-for-5, 2 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBI vs. Cubs (6/30); Geoff Jenkins, 3-for-4, 1 Hr, 5 RBI vs. Twins (5/20) Best Single-Game Pitching Performance: (TIE) Crhis Capuano, 8 IP, 7 H, 9 K vs. Washington (5/7); Jeff Suppan, 8 IP, 8 H, 1 BB, 3 K vs. Cubs (4/24); Jeff Suppan, 9 IP, 8 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K vs. Cardinals (4/30) Team MVP: JJ Hardy, Prince Fielder (tie) Cy Young: Ben Sheets, Francisco Codero (tie) Best Fielder: JJ Hardy Biggest Call-up: Braun to the majors Worst move: Braun not on Opening-Day roster Second-half predictions: Team Wins: 50 Final Standings: Brewers, Cardinals, Cubs, Astros, Pirates, Reds NL Playoffs: Brewers top seed, Padres 2, Mets 3, Dodgers WC.
  13. Offense: A - This team can rack up ten runs on any given day. All they need is someone to get hot. Defense: B- - There have been troubles, but it hasn't killed the Brewers. Starting Pitching: B- - Bush has been clubbed a few times, and Vargas cannot get past the sixth inning. Still, they keep the Brewers in games. That's good enough for the best record in the NL. Bullpen: A- - Maddux and Castro have always been able to jury-rig a good bullpen. The fact that blown leads are notable because they are rare speaks well for their efforts. Management: B+ - Yost has done what he has always done - and his approach is working. He just needed the talent. Delay in calling up Braun kept this from being an A. Overall: A+ - You just cannot argue with the best record in the NL, and the Brewers look unstoppable.
  14. Why is Sheets getting into a strikeout groove scary? I don't find it scary... I find it enjoyable. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. Brewers would face the Dodgers Padres would face the Mets. Tigers vs. Angels Indians vs. Red Sox How do you think the playffs would develop? My thoughts: Brewers take the Dodgers in four. Mets take Padres in five. Brewers take the Mets in six. Tigers take Angels in five. Red Sox take Indians in four. Red Sox take Tigers in four. Brewers beat the Red Sox in seven to become World Champions.
  16. Mike Stanton? The guy who set up the first balk-off I ever heard of?
  17. Dillard as a starter is still a good 4/5 option. Think a poor man's Jeff Suppan. Jackson reminds me of Sharpie, too. Again, as a 4/5, you're doing very well to have him. Parra could be one heck of a comeback story. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Dillard could be a good starter - and you can never have too many starters. If they have moved him to the pen, it's a bad move, IMHO.
  19. I have to admit, it is quite interesting to note the starters the Crew has at Nashville. Yo Gallardo is already in Milwaukee. But the Sounds still have Zach Jackson, Manny Parra, and Tim Dillard - all of whom are legit starting pitching prospects, IMO. Not a bad spot to be in, is it? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. Looks like Parra is back in form... perfect form.
  21. Vargas can't go six innings. Now we need the bullpen to take over.
  22. Gotta love a salami!! Hall?! Hall!?! Where'd he come from?
  23. LaPorta will be in left field, and Jenks' contract will expire after `08. I think he's gonna be in left on Opening Day `09... As the Brewers begin their push for a World Series three-peat. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
