  1. Maybe Urias comes backs and boosts the offense at third. Otherwise, maybe we'd better start praying for Ocho to decide it's time to make a comeback to don the blue and gold and maybe that Rookie of the Year offensive form returns...
  2. If the deal hadn't taken place, the Brewers likely don't sign JBJ in 2021, and Grisham and Taylor end up the 4th and 5th OFs on the 2021 Brewers. Not a bad outfield situation, but the Crew also doesn't have Lauer in the rotation. On the flip side... Petco Field is nowhere near as hitter-friendly as American Family Field. Perhaps Grisham/Taylor provide what the Crew hoped for from Bradley, etc. And no trade means instead of signing Garcia, perhaps Davies still does well for the Crew (5th starter). And the Crew still has a couple of good prospects over the long term in Hamilton and Binelas. Did the trade work out well? Yes, especially if the Crew gets an excellent return for Lauer via trade. Would not making the have worked out well? I'd say the signs point to yes on that front, too.
  3. Yeah, count me as a "No" on this one. That said, I think allowing teams to trade draft picks might be an idea whose time has come. Some limits would be needed, of course (say no more than two out of the top rounds and five out of the top ten rounds), and they'd probably have to take the draft back up to 30 players. but I think it could make things interesting.
  4. Any word on when the Top 25 results will come?
  5. Devin got the K to end the inning, but it may be time to get him a third pitch.
  6. ? That's putting it mildly. How many options does Devin have left?
  7. .235/.350/.412 for Hiura after that rocket. You know, maybe he is turning it around. I wonder what the advanced metrics (HHB, exit velocity, etc.) are saying.
  8. I had Cantrelle at #20 on my ballot. Liked his versatility, walk rate, and power. That said, he hit below the Uecker line in the relatively low minors, so he was either unlucky, of there was a serious hole in the swing.
  9. And a couple of OF innings as well...
  10. I was thinking poor man's Javy Baez - and the developed power really sent him up the list.
  11. Howell also played shortstop, third base, and second base.
  12. Answer: They trade Korry Howell (#2 on my Top 25 ballot) and Brett Sullivan for Victor Caratini.
  13. Maybe they should have dealt Turang instead of Hummel. Or just paid Pina... Maybe NOT have Fry on the list of PTBNL for Cleveland...
  14. In this sort of situation - a doctor's prescription for a medical issue - maybe an 80-game suspension with no questions asked is NOT the right course of action. For those cases, maybe a warning is appropriate for the first time before you turn to suspending.
  15. Which is why MLB needs to revamp the drug policy. 80 games for this makes no sense and is nowhere near proportional.
  16. So they are suspending him because he was taking a legit prescription? This makes NO sense!
  17. The Crew had so many pitchers who could rake. Gallardo was one - could have been interesting to see him do some work at 1B or as a regular PH. Woodruff had a couple (there was a regular-season homer that was overshadowed by that blast off Kershaw). Suter had one. Houser had two last season. Lauer had one.
  18. Can they coax Braun out of retirement to handle the hot corner? Y'all know what day it is...
  19. I'm more inclined to have a "pure" hitter bat second, with the best OPS guy batting third. For instance, have a high-OBP guy who can steal a lot of bases bat leadoff - think Molitor (although Molitor racked up tons of doubles and had some pop). The best number two hitter is someone like Jeff Cirillo - someone who hits .300, and has a TON of doubles. If they can also steal bases (the 2017-2018 Lorenzo Cain run), that's a plus. A .Yelich who puts up a .380 OBP with 45 doubles and 30-40 steals is perfect for that, too. 3-4-5-6 is where you have Yount/2018-2019 Yelich, Braun/Fielder, Sexson/Thames, Adames/Urias/Shaw/Renfroe types, the big boppers, so when they homer, it'll be with a man or two on base.

  21. The Brewers also used Eric Thames a LOT as a leadoff guy in 2017-2018 (39 times across those two seasons). He also spent 104 games batting second in those seasons. He arguably had excessive power for those two spots. I can see the case, but if Yelich is back in shape and closer to his 2018-2019 form, he's best suited for the #3 spot.

  25. He also didn't embarrass himself in LF or RF, and is, at worst, a warm body at 1B.
