  1. I was starting to get a little worried I hadn't seen mine yet, but it looks like I should reserve that emotion for the time being. See hawing, there's good news coming from your disappointment!
  2. I'm no doubt the one who most references the comic book in this thread, so I think I should state that I don't criticize the show for straying from the comic book, in fact I never read the comic book until after season one of the show, so I'm not speaking as some story purist who doesn't like how it got translated. Yes, I do refer back to the comic book as a frame of reference, and I do point out ways that Kirkman has done better in the comic than he's been able to do in the show. But I've said earlier in this thread that the two are entirely different mediums and it's unfair to expect them to be the same. But none of that is to mean there aren't valid critiques of the show that are vocalized by myself and others (many of whom have never read the comic to the best of my knowledge) in this thread. Somehow people keep taking that critique to mean we're arguing the show is awful; if the show was awful I just wouldn't watch it, I actually watch very little television and I'm quick to toss a show out, so staying with the show despite my issues with it still speaks to it being worth some time. Also, I would recommend anyone interested in checking out the comics to do so, there's a lot of story that is different and, as comics go, Kirkman is pretty bold in his story and he does things you don't see many people do in long running comics like this.
  3. This is something I had posted near the end of season 2; It's been a strange handling of the storyline. They took quite awhile to actually get the Governor storyline up and running and now that they've done that they've had uneven pacing of the storyline. The last few episodes have been fine, but they haven't done much for getting us anywhere. I was wondering during last night's episode if they would wrap up this story in this season or not. I'm guessing they will at this point.
  4. I typically do the Fan Choice package, and you can get bounced around quite a bit, but popular games are where you really can sacraifice seat location, and as Dean Machine suggests, you can actually get really great seats for your location on less popular games. It's definetly a balancing act. This year we tried a preset package, and our rep even let us pick our seat location, which is pretty good. However, already we have conflicts with 3 of the first 5 games in our pack, which we likely would have avoided with Fans Choice.
  5. So, Haudricourt retweeted a fake Ken Rosenthal Twitter account saying this was true. Great job.
  6. I didn't go with the signed ball offer this year, because I share my package with someone now. Also when I did that last time, I ended up drawing Carlos Villanueva, who also happened to be the scheduled starter that day, so they didn't let him sign which was pretty annoying. Though I wish I knew the upgrade vouchers weren't good for weekend games before I made that decision since the majority of my games are weekend games.
  7. It was a fun night and the location really worked out in our favor this time. Good to meet everyone who showed up!
  8. The video game is really amazing. I played through it a handful of times and can't recommend it enough.
  9. I do mostly web design and development. And yes, I've taken days off, but I factor those in as paid days off. It was the first day that was meant to be a working day that I didn't have any client work to do, thus, no money to be made for the day. I spent the day working on a new website for myself instead, so it was still worthwhile.
  10. Tomorrow is my 35th birthday. It is also the first day in 5 years, 5 months, and 14 days of self-employment that I won't have a billable project to work on. It's bittersweet.
  11. I've only been there one time on a non-game day, but it wasn't packed at all. I would be surprised if we needed a private room really. It would probably be best to call.
  12. Seems like it's closed down unfortunately. It would have been a good place. Should we consider Friday's at Miller Park?
  13. There's actually a sports bar not far from The Ale House that may be cool, however, I'm not really sure if it's still open. I'll walk by it later and report back.
  14. He did win the MVP just two seasons ago Ya, but he was only runner-up last year.
  15. Ya, getting Braun on the cover would be a really great way to say, "Ryan, you're a pretty good ball player." I think having to post your vote on a social media outlet is obnoxious, but I did it anyway because I thought the commercial was hilarious.
  16. I have gone all digital these days. I pay for Spotify and use it all day, every day. I'll buy a digital album I like if I see it on Amazon for $5 or so. These have been mentioned: Fun. - Some Nights (Very surprised I liked this album as much as I did, it's no doubt my single most played album of the last 6 months.) Silversun Pickups - Neck of the Woods Cloud Nothings - Attack on Memory Polica - Give You The Ghost Japandroids - Celebration Rock Of Monsters and Men - My Head is an Animal Some I haven't seen mentioned: Laura Stevenson and the Cans - Sit Resist Faded Paper Figures - The Matter I Used to Be a Sparrow - Luke Esperanza Spalding - Radio Music Society (Very different than everything else in my list, but a really great album.) Two Door Cinema Club - Beacon (Not as good as Tourist History, but still good.) Passion Pit - Gossamer And, I'd be remise to not mention Her Space Holiday. This was a new discovery for me in 2012, even though he's been around for awhile and put out his final album in 2011. But Her Space Holiday got 930 scribbles from me this year, more than double my number two (Rural Alberta Advantage).
  17. Just to play devil's advocate, but there are other factors that could have influenced Greinke going to the Dodgers, like a pitcher-friendly stadium, not having the "ace" pressure, playing for a historic franchise. Certainly the money doesn't hurt, but I'm not aware of any competing offers that were leaked anywhere either.
  18. I don't think the character development crowd is arguing we don't enjoy the show, we're arguing that the show could be so much more. I fully agree, the show is entertaining and I'll continue to watch it, as I've said, they've gotten far, far better at pacing and tension then they were in the end of season one and start of season two. Despite my nitpicks, this has been a more enjoyable season than the previous two, but of the Walking Dead properties I've taken in (comic, video game, show), it's the weakest of the three. You're on an entire forum of people who over-analyze things, this shouldn't surprise you!
  19. This. Times two. Not to derail this thread, but Homeland is fantastic television. The complex journey they've taken us on with Brody is a shining example of how great characters bring a show to a new level.
  20. I can be too picky when I'm on the show about crazy dudes in the woods and nonsense like that, and I label it as such myself. But I don't think expecting the show to be able to develop characters is being to picky. I'm not saying that the show isn't entertaining, and I've previously pointed out they're doing better than the hiccups they had in the end of season one and beginning of season two. They've become good at making an entertaining show, but the character development is what could make it a great show. When I think of shows I would label as great, they have strong complex characters that you can feel, wrapped into a complex and entertaining story. A zombie story can certainly exist without strong characters, but we've seen that. The strength of The Walking Dead in the comic and in the video game (which is really fantastic), is in understanding that it stands apart because it's a story about people first and foremost and the lengths they will go to survive within horrible chaos and the choices their new reality makes them face. For all of the mess in how the Sophia storyline was handled last year, the outstanding payoff was a result of the characters and the horror they had to face, not the zombies themselves.
  21. My guess is you're on a 32-bit processor, in which case, it's not a problem that is going to go away without buying a new computer. You need a 64-bit processor to run 10.7 and above and increasingly more apps are only able to run on 64-bit. You can find out if you 32 or 64 here; http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3696
  22. Character development is still the show's biggest weakness. And that's not to say they're still awful at character development, it's just to say they're not as awful. (That scene with Carol and Rick in the jail cell last week, was surprisingly emotional, with hardly any words spoken and I wouldn't have thought they could pull that off.) But they've gotten better at pacing and tension. This is slightly spoiler-ish (and thus intentionally vague) if you haven't read the comic or seen the mid-season finale, but there was such a prime example of this failing in tonight's episode. When Michonne is waiting in the dark, awaiting her confrontation, in the comic, that carried weight, it meant something and you wanted her to be there, but in the show, they've failed to establish a good reason for Michonne to sit and wait in the dark like that, but they threw it in anyway, so they could advance the story, not because it advanced a character narrative that you could feel. I hated that they even put her in that spot on the show.
  23. Dave Schoenfield has a good article about the mess that is the HOF voting system anymore. http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/31075/mike-schmidts-idea-to-fix-the-hall-of-fame
