  1. The topic was my 2010 lineup and bench. I personally would like to see Lopez and Weeks both back. Lopez is a better leadoff hitter and Weeks can bat 5th where he belongs and can drive in runs. The only way this happens is if Weeks moves to the OF. I don't care if it is LF, RF, CF. This would make us a better team. Whether he wants to or not the Brewers would field a better team if he does this.
  2. I am sure that Ricky doesn't want to play out there, nor do I really think they will move him out there. I just think they should.
  3. A Gallardo, Bush, or Cameron bobble would have been much better.
  4. Gerut wouldn't be much worse than Cameron and at a huge savings. I would rather see them move Weeks to CF and keep Lopez. If not that, then move Braun or Hart to CF and move Gamel to RF.
  5. 1. Lopez 2B 2. Escobar SS 3. Braun LF 4. Fielder 1B 5. Weeks CF 6. McGhee/Gamel 3B platoon 7. Hart RF 8. Rivera/Salome/Lucroix C Bench : McGhee/Gamel, Rivera/Salome/Lucroix, Gerut, Counsell, Patterson SP Rotation: Gallardo, Bedard or Penny, Parra, Bush, Suppan Bullpen: Vargas, McClung, Stetter, Weathers, Coffey, Difilice or Villanueva, Hoffman
  6. The only problem right now is who hits leadoff? On days when McGheee plays we don't really have a leadoff hitter. Does Hart get moved back to that spot?
  7. I could definitely live with Gamel getting more PT against righties at 3rd. The guy is too good of a hitter to keep out of the lineup much like Braun 2 years ago. He looked very good making that diving play and then unfotunately looked awful on that slow bouncer to him in the 7th. If he can keep producing offensively though, I believe it is worth the risk as it is not like Hall is a spot on in the field either.
  8. I know the Counsell-McGhee platoon is the short term answer now for the Crew, but what is the long term answer? I personally wouldn't mind if they moved Escobar to 2nd base and brought him up or how about bring Ray Durham back as I don't think he has signed anywhere. If I had my preference I would say bring up Escobar to play 2nd.
  9. I think the Brewers need to find a better way to handle this opening day tix. I just get this sick feeling in my stomach that I will turn on the TV and watch the game and see dirty cubs fans there! I just hope that I am wrong!!!
  10. Neither myself or my wife won for opening day either. Sucks as I got tix for opening day every year from 1998-2007. Now I can't even get them. THere better not be any chubs fans there that day or I will be really salty!!!
  11. Thats fine keeping Yo or Parra out of the #1 slot but Suppan? At least Bush looked good in the 2nd half so put him there not Sup!
  12. Yeah but if Suppan starts 1st that means he will more than likely get the most starts. Do we really want our #5 starter from a year ago getting the most starts this year?
  13. 88-74 - 2 games behind the Cubs & 2 games behind the Mets for the WC.
  14. I don't really care for it. These guys already play 162 regular season games. I understand they would be playing spring training games but no one goes all out in spring training and a lot of guys only play half a game. Plus they are away from the team which is a time to come together as a team and get ready for the regular season. Plus if a guy gets hurt playing in this meaningless tourney I would be upset.
  15. I will just go back to my original point that each team should only be allowed to sign one type A free agent per offseason cause they only have one first round pick. This will force the other teams to sign the other free agents since the Yankees can't sign them all and would lower the salaries then leading to more competitive balance.
  16. As much as I would like the salary cap like I said I know it won't happen. I like the cap because then a team can actually develop their own players and then not have to worry about the Yankees or Red Sox or some other wealthy team coming in and stealing these players once they reach their prime. The Yankees made the playoffs for 13 straight years so yes a lot can be said for payroll leading to winning. I also realize that the Marlins won 2 world series only to sell the team off and become the worst team in baseball immediately after winning it all. Just please limit the amount of type A free agents that one team can sign. A team that loses a type A free agent is supposed to get a 1st round pick and if you don't have a 1st round pick to give up you should not be allowed to sign another one. Kinda like the franchise players in football. If you don't have a 1st and 3rd round pick to give up you can't sign the frachise players.
  17. I know after the latest spending binge of the Yankees Mark Attanasio was calling for a salary cap. I agree with him 100% that this sport desperately needs it because MLB is gonna become a joke if it doesn't. Look at all the other sports, I would much rather watch the NFL because any team could win it any year. You think it would be nice if even the Pirates could succeed like the Steelers have or the Brewers like the Packers had for so many years. The salary cap works great in all other professional sports leagues. Having said that I know the players union will never go for this in MLB so some creativity may need to happen to level the playing field. How bout putting a limit on the number of Type A free agents that can be signed by one team. Why should they Yankees be able to sign 3 in one year and from what I heard could add Sheets and Cruz to that to make it 5. Put a limit on it like 2 per year or 3 every 2 years or something like that, just like how College scholarships work, so one team can't just hoard all the talent kind of like the Yankees are doing now. Something needs to be done or this will become a 4 team league and I have a feeling that the marketing value of MLB will go down with it so they should want to also come up with a plan! I consider myself a pretty big fan and would still support the Brewers no matter what. But why would your casual fan support their team anymore if they know the Yankees or Red Sox or Phillies or Mets are gonna win every year.
  18. I must say I don't really think the 2009 team will fall into the same kind of season as the 93 Brewers. Remember the 92 Brewers won a ton of games in September just to turn an average season into a near playoff appearance. They basically had one hot month that almost got them to the playoffs, while this year's team played well most of the season. Not only that but I can't remember being as excited about Vaughn, Jaha, and Listach as I am about Braun, Fielder, and Hardy. Another point is that the Brewers in 93 played in a better division than the current Brewers do, with the Blue Jays winning WS, and having the Yankees and Red Sox in their division. There also was no wild card in 93 like there is now.
  19. C'mon CC! Say it ain't so! I had so much respect for the guy. Finally someone said I don't want to play for the Yankees and my next contract isn't about the money. Wow, dude had me fooled since he left that contract sit on the table for over a month. I didn't have my hopes up that he would sign with the Crew, but at least sign with the Angels or Dodgers or something. Why sign with the most hated franchise in all of sports. One that he said that he didn't want to play for. I have lost a lot of respect for Mr Sabathia today. This was a guy who seemed so decent and set a great example for kids. Now I am left trying to explain to my son why this guy said he didn't want to play for the Yankees but decided to anyway because they offered him a ton of money when $100 mil is already a ton of money. I appreciate CC pitching us to the playoffs and am greatful for that, but why oh why did he have to go and sign with the Yanks of all teams??????????????
  20. No one really worthwhile has changed teams yet anyway. It is not like the free agency in football where all the good players sign right away. In baseball they normally wait til the Winter Meetings so agents can meet with multiple teams at one time and drive up the price. I wouldn't have minded giving up basically nothing for Willingham and Olsen though. That might have been worth it.
  21. I am starting to get the feeling that CC is not going to sign with the Yankees. I really believe that nobody else is even gonna touch that contract offer and if he hasn't signed it already I think he just doesn't want to play for them. I don't blame him. I don't think I would play for the Yankees either no matter what money was offered. The Yankees represent everything that is wrong with MLB and to see them lose out on the top free agent even though they offered the farm for him!
  22. I would not worry about the deal. Holliday would be playing a big stadium in STL and Ludwick would get to go have fun at Coors. I think the Rockies get a slight edge in this deal. Schumaker was also a big spark at the top of that lineup. Now they would have Holliday and Pujols and not a lot else. They are still a team that is descending and this trade won't change that.
  23. I would prefer to try McClung personally. The way he mowed down Cubs hitters at Wrigley and again in the series finally. They guy throws 98 and has an awesome curveball. Give him a shot!
  24. Depends on his contract terms. If he has more than 2 years left on his deal no way.
  25. Well you have to start somewhere. You have 15 days to negotiate with this guy before anyone else can. 5 years, 100 mil is a good starting point. Anyone is probably gonna ask for more than the original offer that is how negotiations work. If you really want to pay him 4 years, 100 mil and 5 years at 125 mil you don't start with that, you work your way up to it.
