  1. This is the only topic dedicated to this bit of news, so if there are any further developments, this would be the place for them. The "old news" comment probably stems from the fact that Ryan's attempt to call was played during Saturday's game broadcast while the Yahoo! blogger just picked up on this yesterday.
  2. Out of curiosity, which payment methods do you accept?
  3. The stats backed up my viewpoint, they didn't back up yours. I think the point that's being missed is that one can't rely on small samples of defensive stats to back up any viewpoint. Take a look at what Russ wrote last week. If you dig back a little further in this topic, you'll find a couple of similar explanations. I picked Russ's because I remembered the author's name and because it didn't use a lot of stat-speak.
  4. I guess a few years back he got a little surly about a contract renewal… He wasn't even surly. If a player's contract is renewed unilaterally, it's unreasonable to expect that he should be happy about it. He answered a direct question with a direct answer that stated the obvious.
  5. "Prove" probably isn't a good word to tie to any stat. "Demonstrates" would be better. "Supports the idea that" would likely be verbiage that best describes the role that stats play. As was pointed out earlier in this topic, a huge issue with advanced defensive stats is errors in the raw data. That would mean that in addition to the randomness that's naturally involved with on-field events, the data itself might be wrong. What the data says might not be what actually happened. You need large samples to negate any potential errors. With offense, you can look at a small-sample OBP and say that a player has had good results over that sample. With defense, due to the issues with the way data is collected, you can't do that.
  6. Here's the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article: Derry Hegarty, dead at 76, known for more than Irish pub
  7. The best I can find is that Mitre is still day to day.
  8. When looking at The Truth's lineup, putting Morgan in the #2 spot vs. righties occurred to me. But he and Hart seem to be kind of a wash. OPSes are similar, but you might gain a little with Morgan's OBP. If RRR went with the concept that players are happier with the same lineup spot every day, I'd be fine if he kicked that in in this case. I wouldn't be so fine if there were a larger difference between the two player's stats, though. I think I'd flip-flop Betancourt and Morgan/Gomez, though. You'd have a few extra ABs going to the player capable of producing a decent OBP (Morgan). And it would seem to be a good spot to take advantage of base stealing. When Yuni makes one of his frequent outs, you'd still have a chance for Lucroy to knock Nyjer or Carlos in.
  9. I don't think I'd advocate stealing in an 8-1 game. But scrambling to avoid an out after a missed sign should be acceptable no matter what the score is. The first time around, I didn't take Quade's comments as an outright complaint. Bringing it up eleven days later makes me change my mind, though. This time he did it without the help of a reporter. I do agree with him when he says he should brush up on unwritten rules.
  10. You're asking for back problems GAME05, especially if you're already noticing that you're uncomfortable. Return the hammock, and buy a mattress that qualifies as adequate. You can gain extra support by putting it on the floor.
  11. I misplaced the link last night, but additionally, Ryan's signing bonus will be split into equal payments made in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. That would make the annual obligations during the playing portion of his contract look like this: 2012: $8.5 million2013: $11 million2014: $12.5 million2015: $14.5 million2016: $15 million2017: $15 million2018: $15 million2019: $15 million2020: $13 million
  12. I went to old Busch a few times. This makes me wonder what we should call the Busch Stadium that preceded "old" Busch. Very old Busch? Back on topic, I think obsessed is right on. I think the Internet — and talk radio, too — have a lot to do with the reputation of Cards fans. When we were at Busch a couple of years ago, people were very friendly and welcoming.
  13. That might be the case if Gammons even worked for ESPN anymore, which he has not for quite some time now. And I knew that, of course. I'm not sure where my brain was. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/embarassed.gif Of course, Bristol water could have a lingering effect.
  14. I've moved the posts from this topic over to the Entrance Music thread. Here's the new location of this thread's lead: http://brewersfandemonium...rance-Music#reply-704306
  15. We now have a separate topic on Prince's comments: Prince wants to stay
  16. Fielder is a GREAT defensive first baseman..." Funketown pointed out a couple of days ago that Tim Kurkjian categorized Prince as "a good athlete, above average defensively and a decent runner." Something must be in the water in Bristol. Every player — even Fielder — is capable of a web gem play on occasion. But memorable plays don't suddenly make a player good defensively.
  17. A player can't be on the disabled list on the same day he appears in a game. The 18th would have been the first day Nyjer was eligible for the DL.
  18. Would it have even been necessary for Kottaras to clear waivers? Had he ever been outrighted before?
  19. He was supposed to play in two games then get a day off. After the day off, he was supposed to start going deeper into games. It sounds like today is according to the plan.
  20. I love your logo, plushworthy. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

  22. Glad to hear that. Thanks, TooLive. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  23. Carlos has two options left. Because of his service time, he'd have to be exposed to waivers to be optioned. But since those waivers can be revoked, it's not likely that an attempt to send him to AAA would be blocked. Designating him for assignment would be unnecessary.
  24. I looked back through the in-game threads and I didn't see any freaking out until the lineup for Sunday's first game was announced. And that freaking out was very short-lived because the explanation of Morgan's injury came right on its heels. If I'm missing something, please point me to it.
