  1. Stevo, are you using Safari? Either way, if you PM me or post a description of your problems in Issues, I can offer some options. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. For the most part WHIP is a tried and true predictive stat... I disagree with that. I think it's one of those things that you eyeball and maybe come close. The problem with WHIP is that it completely ignores total bases. A single, a walk, and a home run count the same. To me, if you're going to use WHIP, you should be giving it a fair amount of breathing room along with supplementing it with other stats.
  3. Milltownhooker, I believe Tom Haudricourt reported that Riske's contract wasn't insured.
  4. Yep last time the firings were much more politically based than performance based That would seem to make sense, although it would seem that any politics involved would be stuff that wasn't apparent to those who weren't in the know. It certainly wasn't union involvement; union leaders tended to keep their jobs. I wonder if they still have that ... clause in the contract where they can't show replay in the stadium on close plays. I thought that was a league rule intended to keep the crowd under control rather than a collective bargaining thing. I for one think umpires deserve to be ruthlessly heckled when they make asinine calls. Sure, why not? We've had our debates about booing around here in the past, but I have to say that booing the umps is (generally) just fine.
  5. I know I will get bashed for this, and I probably deserve it, but I think it makes sense. Speed causes frustration and mistakes. Well, it does make sense. It's just that analysis generally demonstrates that people tend to overrate the overall impact of speed.
  6. I've merged the messages from this discussion into the thread that TooLiveBrew mentions. Russ's lead is here.
  7. The t-shirt says, "Rosendale - Just The Ticket." Rosendale police wrote 1,581 traffic tickets in 2007; they generated $72,036 in revenue. In contrast, Fond du Lac police wrote 451 tickets that year. The 2000 population of Rosendale was 923. Jeff Wagner opines
  8. I'd rather know in my mind that I'm right and let the cop stop the tailgater. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Believe me when I say that I do have a natural lead foot. It's really easy to go 50 in some of these 40 MPH zones. 40 is plenty in these places, and 50 really is too much.
  9. I don't like being tailgated when I set my cruise control to 1 MPH under the speed limit in a well known speed trap.
  10. I wonder about the capability of the evaluators. When the last union was replaced, it seemed that firings were done without regard to how good or bad an ump might have been.
  11. Russ, does the .195 value for a SB include CS, or does that have to be factored in separately?
  12. Yeah arby contracts are only about 1/3 guaranteed. Actually, they're 1/6 guaranteed. If a player is cut in the first half of spring training, he receives one month pay. If he's cut in the second half of spring training, I believe he receives six weeks pay. I'd assume that Gerut is guaranteed for this year unless we hear otherwise. Being guaranteed is would seem to be a good incentive to sign rather than take a case to a hearing.
  13. Because managing doesn't have much or anything to do with money, I'm not sure that it's possible to have a Moneyball manager. But it's possible to have a sabermetric manager. Terry Francona may fit that description.
  14. I've edited the reply in the sticky to reflect the correct number. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. I hope your wife didn't find the need to weep this time around. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. Do you get every game or do you buy the "Brewers" package? Blackouts? Who are the announcers? MLB.TV is an out-of-market package, so you'll get every game except for the Brewers. I believe the Brewers games become available once they've ended, though. Someone who's an "expert" on this can comment on announcers.
  17. I'm not sure if rules permit me to copy the whole thing, so I'll convey the crux of it with a the important quotes; That's how it needs to be done. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Two or three snippets to get discussion going is fine.
  18. When I look at topper09er's message, I see about 33% more "things" happening if Escobar's singles/BBs/HBPs plus stolen bases all become doubles. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Putting it more simply, a double can score a runner from first. A stolen base doesn't advance another runner at all.
  19. There's an article out there that "corrected" O'Brien's salary. I believe it's a little under $15 million per year. I don't see a 10 PM Central show being an option for FOX. Channels with news in that time slot (like Channel 6 in Milwaukee) aren't going to want to give that up. A 10 PM Central show would likely be a better fit for cable or first run syndication.
  20. This is an exciting addition. Welcome, battlekow. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  21. Gammons was in on the MLB Network commentary. You'll probably be able to catch a full rerun. It's already been on twice.
  22. For the most part, intentional walks should be reserved for situations where a walk would be a negative offensive outcome. An example would be setting up a double play in the bottom of the last inning when one run would be enough to lose the game.
  23. Test a few in the stores before ordering online. I ran across a new HP model that runs Windows 7 way too slowly. You'll want to get an idea of how much "oomph" is necessary. That way, you'll avoid having to return, exchange, or put up with a product you're not happy with.
  24. This keeps getting worse. The "inactive account" image in the lead is actually a generic representation. When your account becomes inactive, the actual image displayed contains your name. That means that if you've signed up for Photobucket using your real name, it might be displaying in places where you'd rather not have it show.
  25. Is it kosher to watch Brewers games through these alternative services? The reason I ask is that in the past, we've requested that members not to post how to avoid paying for broadcasts. It's kind of the same thing as our rule about trading copies of copyrighted material. I'm not going to hide anything or issue any specific instructions at this point because I really don't know what's legit and what isn't. We do need to take care, though. The Brewers are the reason this site exists, and we'd like to remain on good terms with them. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
