  1. He's getting it right now and is saying "clear and convincing." Someone must have sent him a memo.

  3. I'll take the long game humiliation… If they win tonight, how about not winning again for another 108 years, which would be 2124?

  5. Having said that I think this is a little bit less of a tragedy given the circumstances. Or more of a tragedy.

  7. Welcome to the board. Junior Guerra was the team's best starting pitcher this past year. He's a really odd case because he was s 31-year-old rookie who was a catcher in a past life. Generally, players' skills start to decline at Junior's age, and in some cases, they decline markedly. But because Junior doesn't fit any typical mold, it's really tough to tell what to expect over the next season or two. Speaking of rookie starting pitchers, Zach Davies, age 23, has become a fan favorite. His pitches don't have a lot of velocity and he weighs about 155 pounds. Because of that, many have been skeptical of his chances for success. So far, the skeptics have been wrong. Wily Peralta, age 27, came up to the Majors in 2012 and has been an up and down performer since then. He pitched really, really badly to start the 2016 season and was sent down to Colorado Springs, where he also sucked. He was recalled to the Brewers in August because they were shorthanded, and he suddenly started pitching really well. Go figure.
  8. On replays, Buck keeps saying "clear and concise" evidence. The Brewer's announcers say "clear and convincing." "Clear and concise" makes no sense while "clear and convincing" does. Plus, "clear and convincing" is a legal standard that falls between "preponderance of evidence" and "beyond a reasonable doubt."
  9. The model that comes up in a search is ZyXEL C1100Z Modem, which appears to include both a modem and WiFi. As Logan says, I think I'd start by calling your provider and seeing what they say. There might be a diagnostic procedure that the tech support person can run. In the meantime, you can go to speedtest.net and see what kind of result you're getting. That may be useful to the techie.

  11. Anecdotally, I've wondered if TLR was on the forefront of this evolution. I think he is a giant tool among other things, but he has had a forward way of thinking. He wasn't a forward thinker at all in the D'Backs front office. But his bullpen usage in the 2011 NLCS ran circles around Ron Roenicke. Other examples where Tony led the charge include the one-inning closer and having the team's best batter hitting third. I think there was some creativity and logical thought involved in those ideas, but now that we've experienced them, I think it's time to roll them back. We now have bullpens full of one-inning pitchers. And stats have shown that the #3 hitter comes to the plate with two out and nobody on base more often than anyone else. There's also the idea of the pitcher hitting eighth. Although the results are pretty neutral, the idea was definitely creative. As far as bullpens in general, I think we're seeing that they have a lot more value than we might have thought a decade or so ago. Because they work in a lot of high-leverage situations, it's not as simple as saying that they pitch fewer innings than starters. Still, it's not worth spending a lot of money on bullpens. It's too much of a crapshoot.
  12. In case you haven't been counting, the Indians just pitched their fifth shutout in eleven games this postseason. The Cubs have been shut out four times in thirteen games.

  15. I think the point about winning is moot. Both the Rangers and Indians would have offered an excellent chance to do that.
  16. Tim Kurkjian says he can't remember baseball changing the time of a game "in order to prevent rain."
  17. Thanks for compiling this, reilly. I see Demi Orimoloye with 81 points. Shouldn't that tie him for 25th, or am I missing something?
  18. Wednesday night's game has been moved up an hour to 6:00[space][/space]PM[space][/space]CDT due to a threat of rain.
  19. I didn't reailze he was on the air this year. It appears that he'll be around on ESPN for games 1 and 2, along with games 5, 6, and 7 if they're played. I think he qualifies based on positive reviews of his performance in last year's American League wildcard game. He showed himself to be articulate and interesting. And he didn't spew out all the same stuff that other player-commentators do. His hair also qualifies him. Hopefully, he's allowed to be himself rather than being made to fit into a mold.

  21. Upon further review, Night Shift is available on Apple devices with 64-bit processors, i.e. iPhone 5s or later, iPad Pro, iPad Air or later, iPad mini 2 or later, and iPod touch (6th generation).. To get it right, move the slider around between "Less Warm" and "More Warm." You might also want to adjust the screen brightness. During warmer weather, I liked using it outdoors after dark. It's True Tone that's available on the newest devices. That's also very nice, and it's something that's designed to be enabled all the time. The color temperature of the screen adjusts itself to the color temperature of the surrounding environment like a piece of paper would. An exception that might cause one to turn True Tone off would be detailed editing of the colors in photos. That's probably a more professional edit than most of us here would do.
  22. Samsung just came out with a setting on the Note7s (no, it didn't burn up on me) that limit the amount of blue light emitted from the device to help prevent this effect. The 9.7 inch iPad Pro and the newest iPhones have it too. Apple calls it "Night Shift." You can set it to turn automatically every evening, or you can enable it manually "until tomorrow." I've been manually enabling it on my iPad. I don't know how much good it does as far as sleep is concerned, but it's easier on the eyes in dark conditions.
  23. How about something involving fan interference at Wrigley?
  24. Actually, there've been two or three over the years, and I should have acknowledged that. On the other side of the coin, when it comes to fans of teams other than the Brewers who've caused issues, almost all of them have been Cardinals fans.
  25. I didn't have a problem with the Cubs at all until their fans had the opportunity to see their team play in Milwaukee. Outside of that, I like Chicago, and the people there are nice. The one time I saw a game at Wrigley, everyone was cool. Cubs fans that I know personally are great; some are relatives. The Cubs fans that have come to this site to post have been good contributors (unlike Cardinals fans). And I like Joe Maddon. But it's the Cubs fans that come to Miller Park that are the overriding factor. Go Indians!
