  1. I don't think we can sign her until she's sixteen, but we can probably start scouting her tomorrow.
  2. The team says that 85 pitches will be his limit.
  3. Controllable simply means that a team has the right to keep a player for X amount of time. Cost certainty is a step beyond that. Carter's salary isn't controllable, but his presence in Milwaukee is controllable for this season and two more. Nobody's salary is controllable for more than two or three seasons, however, players remain a team's property for their first six or six-plus seasons in the Major Leagues. Braun's first multi-year contract, signed in 2008, gave the team both cost certainty and extra years of control.

  5. Thanks! I'll fix that. Today's game is the free game of the day on MLB.TV if you're in an area that's allowed to get the Angel's broadcast.

  7. I'm getting really anal here, but Shane Robinson, whom the Angels called up on Sunday, has one AB against Guerra.

  9. Guerra hadn't been given a 25-man roster spot yet, so I'd assume he'd be taking Freeman's spot.
  10. There isn't a lot of suspense right now, but it feels a lot better than being down by six runs.
  11. Mods - any chance we can get a link to Lambeauleap.net pinned to the top of the Off Topic forum? I'll see what I can do. It'll involve some hand coding. That's easy enough, but because I haven't had to do that in a while, I'm a bit out of practice. EDIT: Or are you simply referring to putting a link in a sticky topic? That's really easy. Any of the moderators can do that.
  12. We don't really know if someone is a flip guy until he's actually flipped.
  13. The difference I see is batting stats in the first table and pitching stats in the second. But digging a little deeper and looking at Junior's Baseball Reference page, it looks like he was a catcher and first baseman from 2003-2005 before he started pitching in 2006. The other thing to pay attention to is not to mix him up with Javy Guerra, who was also with the White Sox last year. I ran across at least one article that used a photo of the wrong Guerra.
  14. Well, the statement is right, but it's hardly relevant as Jimmy hasn't faced the Marlins since 2013. This is his first start against the Angels. I'll change the lead.
  15. Lopez may make an appearance before September, but it won't happen till the cut off date. Keep in mind that due to his previous service time, Jorge's "cut off date" would be about 30 days later than the cut off date for a guy who's never been in the majors before. I always hesitate to use the term "cut off date" because it's an abstract concept rather than being etched in stone. Super Two is a mystery until it actually happens a couple of years later. Service time for the purpose of gaining an extra year of control is fairly concrete, but the date for a given guy in a given season will vary from player to player, depending on previous service.

  17. Speaking of Augies, we didn't see either one of them on this weekend's broadcasts. Bill Schroeder filled that role.
  18. So far so good with Bill pronouncing Ureña. The other night, he said "urea" at least three times. I hate to pick on him because he's generally good with pronunciations, but "urea" is pretty egregious.
  19. Really? I would pronounce like Kohler. In German, you generally pronounce the second vowel with the first vowel silent. So I'd pronounce it like Schroeder — not Bill's way but the way the former Packer said it (shray-der). Carter hit his second homer and the FOX graphic said "second home run tonight."
  20. A player with no previous service time needs at least 20 days in the minors to avoid accruing a full season of major league service time. But if player has come up in September or has had any kind of cup of coffee, you have more days to chew up to gain that extra year.
  21. We had a member who was annoyed by the way Jonathan Villar's last name is pronounced, but it's the pronunciation of Tom Koehler's name that bugs me. A Milwaukeean would naturally want to say kay-ler rather than koh-ler.
  22. Yeah, Braun and Nieuwenhuis didn't really work and play well together. Oh well, Peralta got out of it.
  23. Yeah, it might be more accurate to say that his ability to hit for average sucks. Chris has the skills to raise his OBP well above his BA. I wouldn't call Chris' OBP history atrocious simply because we'd lack a word to describe OBPs that are worse. "Sucks" might work, but I think I'd simply call it "inadequate."
