  1. A granddaughter of George and Barbara Bush has a married name like that: Lauren Lauren. I think she sticks to Lauren Bush most of the time.
  2. Congrats to Nevin for an RBI double in his first MLB at bat. It may or may not have been posted here, but Nevin's wife's first name is Ashley.
  3. I like a nice mix of start times, 6-ish and 7-ish for night games and noon and one for day games. A small handful of 3 or 4 PM starts are cool too.
  4. He died at age 62. I thought he was younger.
  5. Since we're into repeating, I'll repeat that Melvin has said that the #2 objective in a trade is to make the other team better.
  6. Games played, games started, etc. actually are stats. But yeah, contracts can't be tied to performance.

  8. Kyle Barraclough has one of the cooler names in the game.
  9. I'd guess that the sponsors involved have a lot to say about the promotional dates. It seems that the best discounts tend to be on weekdays, though.
  10. Not that I'm complaining, that ballpark is fantastic but we played them on the road the last time we played the AL West and I thought it alternated. It's not that logical. I suppose that if the schedule makers tried too hard to be logical, they'd go nuts.
  11. Per yesterday's TV broadcast, the large tattoo on Zach Davies' arm is a representation of the Seattle skyline.
  12. You can go over to this site: Baseball Musings Day By Day Database Search for a player, and manipulate the dropdowns accordingly. This is the kind of result you'll get: Ryan Braun: May 1 to Sept. 7, 2015 If you want to post a link or create a bookmark that stays "current," simply pick an end date that's sometime in the future.

  14. I'm watching parts of the rerun of the game. The behind the scenes TV people are going to have to get used to Zach's pace. A montage of Martín Prado clips caused viewers to basically miss the last pitch of a strikeout.
  15. Look, just throw Lohse in the 6th inning leave all your pitches up in the zone until you've given up 2 runs. A team can continue to play poorly performing veterans, and it can play young players who are likely to take their lumps. But intentionally having pitchers leave all pitches up in the zone is going to cause a boatload of trouble.
  16. Were the Marlins calling time out on Davies like the Pirates were?
  17. I see a discrepancy between the topic title and the scenario described in the lead post. Demand to be traded? I can't see that. He's not in a position to make any demands. Saying that he's open to a trade? Sure.

  19. I'm not sure which is true but it seems like writers are trying to make a story where there really wasn't one. That's certainly a possibility as it happens often enough. I stopped short of accusing Silva of that because there wasn't tangible evidence of it. He definitely misrepresented what McCalvy reported, though. At the very least, that indicates either laziness or carelessness. I remember the year that almost everyone reported Ben Sheets' free agency as being after the upcoming season rather than after the season that followed. That went on for the entire off-season. It was definitely a lesson about how we need to be skeptical when so-called facts are reported. The really stupid thing is that all anyone had to do to get it right was look at his career and count the number of seasons he had played.
  20. This is like the exercise where we all sit in a circle. I whisper something to jerichoholicninja, who whispers the message to clancy, who whispers the message to markedman5, who whispers the message to hawing, etc. The message finally gets back to me and it's completely different. Here's how Drew Silva directly references the article by Adam McCalvy. Adam tells it slightly — but significantly — differently. "Asked Garza to pitch out of the bullpen" implies that the Brewers made a direct request for him to so so. "Refused an offer to pitch out of the bullpen" indicates that Garza turned down an optional opportunity. Todd Rosiak paraphrases Doug Melvin. His take is more in line with McCalvy's. The moral of the story is that you have to investigate what you read because writers don't necessarily care about accuracy.
  21. Wow! Someone actually started a thread begging for the Brewers to lose on purpose? Well, the team can't do that, and I think everyone understands that. There's no way they can "tank." I can see the sentiment behind the topic title, though. But the lead post doesn't suggest that anyone tank. It's just asking the baseball gods for a little bit of bad luck on the field.

  23. I get the impression that the Brewers gave him the option and that he declined an offer to pitch from the bullpen rather than refusing to follow an order. Refusing would cause him to face fine and/or suspension.
  24. I hope that Jiménez is replaced next inning. It's not because of anything that might happen on the mound; it's because of the way Craig Cushon is pronouncing his name.
