While Harper's assessment of the hit batsman thing is spot on, calling out a teammate in public is never good. In this case, it added fuel to the fire for a fine and suspension. The video that trwi7 posted doesn't really indicate the level of effort that Harper put into running running out the fly. But the little we see almost indicates that he might have come close to not running at all.

He said that he and Whitney are getting recognized already and that the days of anonymity might be over. He said that’s indicative of how much the city cares about baseball. The Brewers have a “compressed timeline” for formulating their offseason plan. Most teams are doing that right how, but for the Brewers, it’ll probably be closer to the end of the World Series to have plans in place. He talked about how the people he’s worked for have influenced him, but he says the bottom line is that you have to be “true to who you are.” He grew up as a Mets fan. He’s headed back to Milwaukee in the morning. Airtight general manager-manager relationships spread throughout the entire organization. Lopez has taken as big a step this year as any prospect in baseball. As acting GM, Doug is still making personnel decisions. David officially takes over once the season ends. He talked about Padres GM A.J. Preller. David says that he’s made high profile moves. When someone’s that aggressive, it raises some eyebrows. But the good news for him is that he has a lot of these guys for multiple years, so the fact that this year didn’t turn out as planned doesn’t indicate a failed strategy.[/list-sp]

Here's an update that was posted on JSOnline earlier today: David Stearns getting to know Craig Counsell, front office staff It sounds like he's been pretty busy getting to know everyone and determine their skillsets. For the past two days, he's been in San Diego meeting with Craig Counsell and his staff.

I'm fine with Rogers at 1B next year, but right now, I don't see him as a long term solution. Of course, that opinion could change if he mans the position successfully over the course of a season. Its also possible that regular playing time could build up his trade value. He isn't young anymore, but he's still cheap and controllable.

I am sure there is more going on in that clubhouse than anyone knows. And that's as it should be. The hit batsman issue should have never become public. And likewise, the issue of whether Harper should have run harder should have remained in the clubhouse.

If you're not planning on contending anyway why not just stick your 8 best offensive players out there for 7 innings? I posted about this previously, but I'd go in the opposite direction, choosing pitching and defense on a rebuilding team. Prolonged innings caused by errors or lousy pitching are obnoxious and are tortuous for fans and players alike. Given that, Rogers at first is OK with me, but he should only be playing third when there's no other choice. As far as Lind goes, his trade value this winter is likely to beat whatever value he might add to the 2016 Brewers team.

It was scary when Maldonado got hit in the head in the ninth inning. But he immediately went to first base and jogged off the field when replaced by a pinch runner (Reed). Luckily, he was hit by a change-up. I can see why Luc would want to play vs. spending the winter wondering about what he's going to be able to do. I think that restricting him to 1B and pinch hitting is a good middle ground.

Right. I'm fine with either Reed or Santana in CF for the time being, with "time being" including next season if that's how the chips fall.

Robin Yount would tell us that the goal every season is to win the World Series. Regarding Mark's statement, I think you're probably splitting hairs. Being able to field perennially contending teams is the ticket to the Series. Had he said that we want to be consistent contenders for a World Championship, it would have meant more or less the same thing to me. No, I wouldn't want to be the Marlins either. They dismantled two world championship teams; that defies logic. They didn't even get the attendance dividend that a team would normally get in the seasons following those championships. I don't think a team needs to be bound to "windows." If there's a constant talent flow from the minors, there are lots of options. The main thing is to not let the minor league system deteriorate to the point where it doesn't have the talent to feed the Major League team. There may be some minor ups and downs from year to year, but if things are done right, a team shouldn't have to be forced into a total rebuild.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but while Reed has some CF experience, it doesn't appear to be his primary position. In other words, I don't think I'd consider him a "center fielder of the future," but rather, someone who may play there from time to time. Still, I'd rather pass on Logan's defensive advantage and punt in center in order to see the younger guys.

Per Craig Counsell. He said that Ryan didn't suffer any setbacks by playing last night and that he may actually be improving. But he's "not good enough" and it makes sense for him to go into his surgery as healthy as possible.

FWIW, I don't get the obsession with starting Schafer either. The only thing I can fathom is that he's the best defensive option in CF.
