  1. Cases are a really subjective thing. Your choice really depends on what you want to accomplish. OneDrive is one of the services that concerns me about privacy. Outside of that, it looks like a nice setup.

  3. I had forgotten about Cole Gillespie. It's hard to believe that he's 31. With his .796 OPS (before tonight), he's put together a pretty good string of 118 plate appearances.
  4. Here's a video interview with Tom Haudricourt where he talks about the background of the story. How David Denson's Story Came to Print
  5. As the author says, it's hard to figure out the Dodgers' motivation. Previous third base coach Lorenzo Bundy is moving to the dugout, and assistant hitting coach John Valentin will be out of uniform and the dugout during games. It seems to me that Valentin is simply the odd man out; it could be that he'll back in uniform once another coach can suit up in September.
  6. I got to the article without registering, probably because it was accessed via a link on this board rather than from the [cite]Washington Post's[/cite] site. Several sites require registration but will allow full articles to be read if accessed via Google. I believe the [cite]New York Times[/cite] and [cite]Wall Street Journal[/cite] are among them. If that's the case, google the article title and access it that way.

  8. The reason for asking people to curtail the religious discussion is that those debates haven't ended well around here. It was tried, and because it failed so badly, the request to keep politics and religion off the board was added to Fan Forum Etiquette. Sometimes, there's a fine line, and the moderators recognize that. This thread has touched on both sides of the religious issue, and that's plenty. reillymcshane, we don't filter slurs because we figure that people know when they're inappropriate and because there might be times that they might legitimately fit into a discussion. As you mentioned, Billy Martin actually did refer to Glenn Burke as a "faggot" when introducing him to his new teammates. djoctagone, that's a great point about the media guide.
  9. It would have ended up being a news story one way or the other. It's better that the story was handled on David's terms rather than having to be put on the spot in an uncomfortable situation. It also frees his teammates from having to watch what they say about him. In time, a player's sexual orientation will hopefully become a footnote. It's something we're likely to know simply because players are celebrities and we tend to know a little about their lives outside of sports. But before fans and the press start thinking of orientation as simply a footnote, it's going to take a few more players coming out, including some at the Major League level.
  10. Storage management depends on how conscientious a user wants to be. It's also somewhat reliant on a user's technical comfort level. But yeah, the cloud and your PC/Mac are both options for keeping storage under control. Movies are a biggie. They can get out of control fast. Because of file size, they can take some time to move to the cloud. You definitely don't want to do this on paid bandwidth. Photos can be a problem if you keep them to the extreme. One of my friends had 16GB of Photos on his phone. I haven't found a cloud option for photos that I really like. Either privacy, file size reduction, or cost has put me off, so I move most photos over to my Mac. I keep a few in the Photos app and a handful in Dropbox. Apps can be the toughest thing to keep under control. If you regularly use several large apps, 16GB won't cover you. Most apps don't use a lot of storage, but there are some significant exceptions.
  11. I think we'd all prefer that David focused on baseball. In the interview, he told us that he was unable to do that before making his orientation public. Specifically, he used the words "depression level." I believe his hope is that coming out will be a means to be able to get his focus back toward becoming a better player. In the short term, he says he's going to be declining interviews. That's a good move. After that, hopefully things will normalize and his sexuality will become an occasional topic rather than a constant one.
  12. This story is being reported all over the world. A Google News search turns up articles written in Spanish, French, German, and Italian.
  13. If you are on Android, there is a battery tracker that keeps track of pesky apps that run in the background. iOS 9, which will be available in a few weeks, will be adding this feature. (It's been on Macs for a couple of years.) It'll also be adding a low power mode. You'll be able to leave this on all the time if you'd like. Otherwise, you'll be prompted to enable it when the battery level becomes low. Definitely turn off Bluetooth if you're not using it. Newer phones have Bluetooth LE (low energy), which should be a whole lot better, but if you don't need it, it doesn't make sense to have it activated. Also check to see which apps run in the background and disable the ones that don't need to do that.
  14. Yeah, I have to wonder about hiring from the Cardinals organization until the hacking investigation plays itself out. You'd hate to hire someone and suddenly have him face a suspension.

  16. Let's move on from the religious angle before it becomes a problem. Thanks!
  17. 33,920. It looked reasonably full early in the game. I can't say I paid much attention to the crowd later on.
  18. That ticker on the bottom of the screen on FSWI's broadcast has to go. Besides being distracting, it can also intrude on the action. When showing replays of Braun's single (which was overturned), the critical information — his foot touching the bag — was covered up by the stupid ticker.
  19. It's hard to put ourselves into someone else's shoes because everyone feels pressure differently. But David states in the interview that keeping quiet caused an awful lot of pressure. I'd surmise that he feels that the pressure of suddenly having much greater exposure beats the pressure of keeping quiet. I think that his team, the Brewers, and Major and Minor League Baseball will help with the exposure aspect.
  20. It certainly makes sense to want to save time. I suppose that the explanation wouldn't need to be so immediate that it delays the start of play. And it wouldn't necessarily have to be delivered to the umps on the field. But there should be one in some way, shape, or form.
  21. No, and that's part of the problem. We don't get an explanation from New York. That component needs to be included in the review process. When a call on the field is overturned, the ump essentially becomes an innocent bystander. But even with an explanation from New York, the manager would still be barking up the wrong tree when arguing with the ump.

  23. Counsell was ejected in the top of the seventh for arguing an overturned call, although the ump gave him a long leash, probably because the call was so strange. Still, if a call is overturned, why bother arguing? You're complaining to the wrong guy. It'll be interesting to see what Craig has to say.
