  1. I think I prefer "bratwurst" flavor. And I'd eat them much more often if someone could make one that doesn't give me heart disease. Less fat, butchers!
  2. Good for you, Adam! I hope this is a special time for you and those closest to you. Best wishes!
  3. i thought they were going to leave Yankee up as a museum and build the new one next to it? Am I wrong? I'm 80 percent sure they are planning to demolish the old one. I believe that whole area is part of an urban renewal project with Yankee Stadium (new) being the cornerstone. I think the old one is coming down. . .but I'm not absolutely sure. I live in NJ and listen to NY radio pretty much all day every day, and this surprisingly gets almost no talk at all.
  4. I would save your money to the point where you can incorporate a Yankee Stadium/ Fenway Park/ Hall of Fame visit. You could throw Shea in there, too, but frankly, if you miss it, you're not missing much. It would be a shame for you to miss Yankee Stadium before they take it down.
  5. Did they do away with the DirecTivo? They launched their own DVR product and I believe they will only offer Tivo service to those who are grandfathered. . .but don't quote me on that one. I had two separate Sony Directv receivers with Tivo, and one of the boxes died. When it came time to replace that one box, (if I remember right) the choice was pretty much to go with the Directv DVR. It was free after rebate with a 2-year commitment. So now I have one of the old Sony Tivo boxes and one of the new(er) Directv DVRs, and it's no contest. . .the user interface on the Tivo is vastly superior.
  6. I've been a Directv customer for almost 6 years. Here are my thoughts. . . Pros-- MLB Extra Innings package. Great picture quality Decent price. Not sure how it compares to cable. It's not cable. Cons-- Directv DVR is wayyy worse than Tivo. HD Programming seems a little lacking. They are supposed to be rolling out some new channels before this fall, but I've stayed away from their HD package as I just don't think I'd watch what they're showing. New holes drilled in house. "Standard Installation" is never what you really want. You'll pay extra for "Custom Installation", where you decide where your ports come into rooms. Plus, every room has to be wired where you want service. Typically, your house has rooms already wired for cable. No local news on CNN Headline News, or local Weather on the Weather Channel, or local government/school board channels. That's about it from my perspective.
  7. Jay Buckley Tours is an operation with a base in Wisconsin. I think he's from LaCrosse, but I'm not sure. He runs a number of ballpark trips each year. They use bus transportation. I haven't been on a Buckley trip, but he's a very nice guy. I've spoken with him a couple of times at card shows, and once I was at a Spring Training game in Kissimmee (Astros) and there was a Buckley tour group seated behind me. They seemed like a nice enough group of guys. The only problem I would see with a tour like that is if you happened to get a questionable group of people, where you're basically stuck with them for the duration. Other than that, it could be a fun time.
  8. I don't think any of those seats had fold down arm rests. I think the part you're talking about is the seat bottom frame for the seat that would have been next to yours when they were in a row. I can see how you wouldn't want to sit in the seats if they were rusty, and would track rusted metal onto your clothes. You can probably spot treat the worst of those areas with steel wool. But I would leave the wood exactly as it is. Enjoy!
  9. I believe there is a card show at Gonzaga Hall in West Allis this Sunday. If you're in or near the area, it might be worth a visit to see if any of the dealers there know about getting some of the original seat stands that were offered for sale during the demolition. There were a couple of veteran dealers who seemed to have lots and lots of vintage stuff from the old stadium.
  10. Yours are a little more beat than mine--but not much. The underside rust will be invisible when the seats are open (mine are always open, with a pair of 1989 seat cushions on one set and a set of ASG sets on the other). If you're concerned about the armrests, then maybe do a little fine steel wool to take away the heavy rust. Mine have been indoors (not in the basement) since I've gotten them, and I haven't noticed any progression of rust at all. So I would think that they would do fine indoors as they are now without getting any worse. When mine arrived, one of the pair had a couple of breaks in the iron frames, down around the bottom. Not sure if they were damaged when they were removed from the stadium, or maybe in shipping--or by me in wrestling the stinkin' things up the stairs. If I remember right, they were shipped with lumber mounts on the bottom, maybe to add stability or to create a shape for the packing crates. In any case, they were very awkward and somewhat heavy to move (by myself) up several stairs onto my porch and into my house. I took that one set to a local welder to do a repair so I could use the seats, and they look fine. My only beef with mine are that both sets are seats 22 & 23, as if they came from different rows, one behind the other. I would have preferred to have 4 sequential numbers--but that's probably just nitpicking.
  11. Congrats on the seats! I bought two sets of two when the stadium was torn apart and they were shipped with seat stands. I can't help you on locating these stands or other methods of mounting them. The Hall of Fame has a number of seats on display, and they might be able to help you in locating some seat stands. I would offer you the suggestion that you DON"T restore the seats. Mine are pretty beat up too, with chipped paint, and one set has some pretty chewed up wood on the backs. One reason for my suggestion has to do with the retaining the seats' value. Unrestored seats ALWAYS sell for more than their restored counterparts--in case you ever see the need or desire to sell them. That's true of any collectible. It's always better to keep things original and flawed that to do a repair--even if the repair is of great quality. The other reason is for pure aesthetics. I remember County Stadium being exactly as chipped and flawed as my seats are. I wouldn't recognize these seats as being from County Stadium if they were all shiny and new. Keep the grungy memory alive!
  12. I'm going to be in Baltimore in late July to check out an Orioles game at Camden Yards. Not sure if anyone on the board has visited the Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum, also in Baltimore. . . Is it worth the time? I'm coming in to see a Tuesday night game, and then will have several hours to spend on Wednesday, and I'm looking for stuff to do. My other option is to hit the Harbor area, or move on to DC and one of the Smithsonian Museums. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. . .
  13. Enough with the piling on. It was a freakish accident that lead to a man's death, and a terrible loss for his family and friends. May we all be treated with a little more dignity.
  14. I may be talking out of my rear on this one, as I don't really know how marker ink would handle grout. . .BUT-- I used a grout product from Home Depot a few years ago that was made for delicate surfaces. I used it to grout glass tile that was installed as a kitchen backsplash, and the grout didn't have any real grit in it. It worked fine, the end result was beautiful, the glass tile wasn't scratched at all. I used standard spacers (1/8 inch?). A tile guy may know more about it than me, but I was able to do a pretty delicate tile project with a non abrasive grout.
  15. I would guess its worth around $25. I collect pennants, and have found that the only ones with value over $100 are vintage pennants. Classic Yankees and Brooklyn Dodger pennants can go for $250 and up. Old Milwaukee Braves, Philadelphia A's, St. Louis Browns (and other teams in new locations) will also fetch fairly high prices.
  16. Take the new job. Clearly, you're not being challenged enough in your current role, and while all the goof time seems a luxury right now, you're not getting anything out of it. And it won't be long before all that extra time becomes a burden to you. Plus, with a bigger company, you'll get a chance to show your work to a different and larger audience. You could leverage that exposure later in your career to bigger and better projects.
  17. They must be using a more robust imaging system in San Francisco, as I just checked out my house and I couldn't get any closer than before. Still a rather fuzzy picture only recognizable because I live here.
  18. Wow! The charges are that he's shaking down multiple businesses for favorable licensing treatment. . .but he's taking such petty sums-- $900 from one business, $2000 from another. . .I just don't get it. It wouldn't be hard to see how someone in government could be swayed by dirty money. But to sell your soul with multiple people for such little money?!? What was he planning to buy, a new bedroom set? Yeesh. . .
  19. si.com has a great summary on this story as it stands today. sportsillustrated.cnn.com...index.html And ESPN's Outside the Lines had a good report over the weekend about Vick's involvement. It's pretty clear that this story isn't just about one NFL-er's involvement in dog fighting. There may be (by my own guess) a dozen or more pro athletes involved in this.
  20. That's very sad--the news story makes it sound like he's a pretty terrific guy. Hopefully he'll turn up safe and sound.
  21. Bartenders have a legal obligation to serve only those who the law says they may. They can't serve minors. They can't serve people who are intoxicated or those who are likely to become intoxicated. That's the gist of dram shop laws. The laws are to say that alcohol needs to be treated differently than nachos or jeans or wiper blades. You can't just give someone a drink because they want one, or because they wave money in your face. You have to use the judgment of a reasonable person. Josh Hancock did a dasterdly thing, by getting liquored up and driving. But it seems that he's not the only one who acted irresponsibly.
  22. Agreed with all sentiments on this thread. But now the critical question. . . Will this make you stop watching the nation's favorite sport? Will you not play roto football? Will you simply stop caring about all that is the NFL?
  23. That Bernie shirt is weak. The use of profanity doesn't make it funny--just tasteless.
  24. I picked up a DVD recently from Raresportsfilms.com. It is a partial game from July 1972 and the earliest known footage of the Brewers from Milwaukee County Stadium. It's an Angels vs. Brewers game, and its an Angels broadcast, with Dick Enberg as the play-by-play man. It's only a partial game, but its still pretty cool. B&W and not the sharpest picture, but it is very clean, and a piece of history. He's got quite a catalog of stuff available, and is a true baseball historian. Highly recommended.
  25. Ugh. . .what a dope. One point, though. . . The Hall of Fame Game every year in Cooperstown is an exhibition game. It doesn't count in the standings. Regardless, this seller is a complete fool, rendering any of his future auctions as completely questionable.
