  1. I've been to parts of 3 games so far, 19 innings total and have seen them score zero runs, while Chase Anderson has given up 6 HR.
  2. I think Oglivie, Gorman & Sixto are every bit as good as Braun, Cain & Yelich. Their 1978-80 stretch was very strong.
  3. It's heartening to read all the kind words that have been written about Davey. He made a big impact on a lot of people. May we all.
  4. I dreamt that the Brewers signed David Wells out of retirement to pitch in relief, but he allowed 6 ER in 1 IP and I woke up before I learned if he had been released. Maybe I should be concerned that David Wells occupies space in my subconscious.
  5. There are several Lombardi signed checks like this one that have sold on eBay this year. Prices have been from $500 to $1,000.
  6. He will never be DFA'ed. And I would never call for it. If he stinks for the first half of the final season of his contract, then turn him into a pinch hitter.
  7. The beef tacos were very good today. I will get those again.
  8. I think Albers or Jeffress would get first shot. There is something about the hierarchy of experience that seems safe for teams.
  9. I had a hot dog on Monday and it was different than in past years; a little redder and a little longer. It was tasty, though that could have been because I was pretty hungry by then. The Johnsonville wrap around my dog was inside out, which makes me think it's not a Johnsonville product. Hebrew National sounds plausible, but their name doesn't appear anywhere I've looked yet. Glad you got to Tuesday's game, JimH5. I hope you couldn't hear my ugly cough from across the section. Didn't hear the cough...I'll listen for it on Sunday!
  10. Welcome! Glad you're here for the 2018 Championship season!
  11. I'm fine with remembering Braun's PED episode and thinking that he was boo-worthy. But I'm not going to hold a grudge against him--because I look to the Brewers for entertainment, and I want to cheer for them now. And the only person who would suffer from that grudge would be me. He was a grandstanding liar and cheater. He paid the price within the game and outside the game and suffered financially for it. And he's been an upstanding guy ever since then. His shine has been permanently dulled. But those days are long gone and I don't have the energy or interest in digging up old feelings about someone whose exploits I turn to for fun.
  12. I don't think Braun will get a statue..unless the Brewers win a pennant while he is here.
  13. Braun's PED suspension and his conduct at the time will make it very hard for him. Plus, he's nearly 1,000 hits behind Gary Sheffield and more than 1,300 behind Rafael Palmeiro, and those guys have no real traction. Braun hasn't even reached 160 hits in a season since his suspension. Transitioning to a part-time player isn't going to help him reach the counting thresholds. I think the Wall of Honor and a plaque in the pavement are going to be the limits of his post-career awards.
  14. He took a banned substance and repeatedly lied about it. He questioned the integrity of the process and the integrity of the test administrator. He stained his own reputation & the reputation of the franchise. He won an MVP award that he might not have earned. He created friction in the clubhouse and in the fanbase. He did all of those things. He has also been a model citizen since then. He made the phone calls and passed out the turkeys and signed the autographs and has shown contrition. And he's been a good player the whole time. He has moved around the diamond to help the team. So, he's hated because of the stuff in the first paragraph, AND because those who hate him aren't willing to recognize the stuff in the second paragraph.
  15. I think Hebrew National is the hot dog provider this year.
  16. It was $20 million, if my memory is correct. And I thought last year's sausages were in a more substantial bun. Tonight's was the lowest grade white bread bun. It might get better as the year progresses, but tonight's experience wasn't anything special.
  17. Had my first Johnsonville Polish sausage tonight. They are much larger than the Klement's sausages last year. Concession crew was friendly and fast. But my wife's sausage was cold. Mine was warm, but the bun was torn. And the Secret Stadium Sauce bottle was empty at the condiment station.
  18. Glad that Lucroy got a full time job. He was a great Brewer on and off the field. A one-year deal gives him a chance to rebuild his value. Sorry that the market has changed, but he's got a job while several free agents will not.
  19. For me, it's Yelich. I'm eager to see how the prospects do, and there's a better chance they'll get playing time in Miami. It will tell me how much the Brewers system has improved from a development standpoint. If all 4 guys flame out, that's troubling. And of course the return is a star player in his prime. Christian Yelich is a top tier player, playing here at age 26. This is the Sabathia trade, but with a longer contract in return.
  20. I'm fine with all of it. The Brewers are going to sell those tickets regardless, so all the better if locals get first crack at them. If some or even most end up on Seat Geek, then so be it. And if people end up selling them at face value, or eating them, that's fine, too. We are always going to have visiting fans in the stands, just as we're going to travel to see the Brewers. Just behave in a mature and friendly manner and enjoy the rivalry.
  21. Tune in! After some unexpected delays, tonight was the big taste off. I prepared them in separate nonstick pans, searing them on one side, then turning and searing again. I finished them by pouring a Miller Lite in each pan and simmering them in the beer. I know that's not how they're cooked at the stadium, but that's how I do it. They were served on packaged brat buns with Secret Stadium Sauce and diced white onions. And.... The difference was only marginally discernible to me. I could tell they were different, but not much at all. BUT... My wife insists that I wasn't using the right product. I used Klements and Johnsonville's uncooked polish sausage. One of them is labeled Polish Kielbasa. Mrs. H5 insists that the ones we eat at Miller Park have a red appearance inside (after a bite). These did not. And I think she's right. These were each longer in length than Miller Park's Polish. I just assumed it was the same meat & spice blend inside. Both tasted fine, though not awesome. I would rate each an 8 out of 10 as polish sausage (as opposed to a gourmet artisan sausage). I'm going to hold off and taste the real thing this season and see if I long for the days of Klements, or if Johnsonville is an improvement.
  22. My project got sidetracked by two other types of sausage in my refrigerator that I bought last weekend. I had forgotten about them and needed to cook them before they went bad. Those were from the Foltz counter at the Milwaukee Public Market. I bought some Philly Cheesesteak sausage and some Peach Habanero. The heat of the Habenero dominated my mouth, so I couldn't get any of the peach flavor. They were good, but maybe just too overwhelming for me. The Philly Cheesesteak sausages are consistently good there. I have had them in the past, and while they don't have enough cheese in the links for my taste, they're still really good. Both had great texture. Johnsonville and Klements Polish are on my menu for Thursday night.
  23. Who knows what the future brings, but absent some kind of scandal, both seem to be as secure as any GM and Manager in the game.
  24. There's no morality argument in the Klements vs. Johnsonville debate, and nobody is insulted when one takes a side.
  25. Good to know...though they better make a fresh variety for Miller Park. That heat & eat stuff will NOT make me feel cherished. Just got back from Woodman's with packs of Klements and Johnsonville fresh polish sausage. I'm doing a taste test this weekend.
