  1. Gary Cohen calling a Mets HR is my favorite current baseball sound. Harry Caray had a fabulous HR call. Of course, Uecker is golden.
  2. I thought that games like Strat-o-matic and others had been using injury and fatigue ratings for years. APBA's Baseball for Windows was released 20 years ago or more, and that game had a usage governor, which required pitchers to rest for varying lengths of time based on how they had been used.
  3. This 1000 times. Non-stay-at-home parents visualize a life of leisure and free time. But we know better.
  4. The Hall of Fame has plenty of Rose-related items on display. He is featured prominently in their display case on the Big Red Machine. His records are all there for everyone to see in the interactive leader board. He has by no means been ignored or erased from history within the Hall of Fame building. That he hasn't been honored with an induction ceremony and a plaque is all his doing. He violated the rule on gambling and lied for years about his betting. Maybe there will be a day when his actions are explained by a chemical imbalance or other disorder that allows a commissioner to hold Pete not responsible for his gambling and lying. But today it is still very reasonable to say that he did those things on his own, and it is right that he face the consequences of his actions. He was a great player and it's sad but just that he remains banned from baseball, and from the Hall of Fame.
  5. I'm not going to rip it. And I'm not going to watch it.
  6. If she did a Facebook search of you, then she might turn up as a People You Might Know. That's a possible explanation. Though I wouldn't put it past any online company to be data mining.
  7. The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is there. I haven't been to the museum in 20 years, but I remember it being very cool.
  8. I have been behind the home plate screen lots of times and after the first couple of batters, I don't even see the screen. We've all watched games on TV and have seen people flinch when a ball comes back at them. The screen becomes invisible. My current seats are up above the screen on the Loge level, and foul balls have rocketed to us several times with little time to react. So, I would be fine with extending the screen to include everything through the dugout areas. The last thing people want is to suffer a gruesome injury when out for a fun night.
  9. I will miss Elian's pointing to the sky. I will think of him whenever I see the sun.
  10. I look forward to seeing it. And he is a folk hero. He brought baseball back to Milwaukee. Nobody else did.
  11. Randy Ready..Ernest Riles..Bill Spiers..Joey Meyer..Billy Jo Robidoux..Glenn Braggs..Marc Newfield..JM Gold..Nick Neugebauer..Cristian Guerrero..Cutter Dykstra..David Krynzel..Jon Steitz..Jeff D'Amico..Mark Rogers.. Now I expect all the pitchers to be flameouts (sorry, Kodi) and if they actually make it and produce, I'm pleasantly surprised. I'll start to get excited if a hitter makes an impact in AA. In truth, this is a thread on what prospect "I" missed on, and I don't have enough knowledge to scout on my own. I just look at where they were drafted, what the national writers say, what their stats say, what the Brewers writers say, and what I hope for. And most of it is what I hope for. And more often than not, they don't really pan out. I'm sure they're talented and hard working. But the Brewers' prospects have teased me too many times to get worked up.
  12. Absolutely. I wonder if there is any film of him. He was the Pistol Pete of Wisconsin.
  13. I've had a dad bod for the 11 years that I've been a dad, and for about 15 years before that. If ladies are now suddenly into the look that I've been perfecting all this time, it's news to me. Though my angry, unapproachable glare and occasional Canseco-like twitching might have something to do with that, too. As for Braun, to me, he does look a little leaner than in the past. It's tough to tell, though, since his jersey could be baggier, or more tailored.
  14. How many extra wins do you think good chemistry gives a team over the course of a season? 0. It's a fun concept for fans to enjoy, but it's not tangible. This team doesn't hit well and certainly doesn't situationally hit well. Until that changes, no amount of chemistry in the clubhouse will change that. I'm doubtful that the answer is zero. I'm sure that "clubhouse chemistry" (i.e. camaraderie, a shared sense of purpose, encouragement, accountability, respect for your peers and leaders) matters in the non-baseball world. It has to make a difference in sports, too. Otherwise, managers are just about game strategy, playing time, etc.
  15. I think I would have a massive heat attack if this happened. Like, seriously, no one would have to wonder why I suddenly disappeared from this board forever. I think I would die of laughter. But I'm mean that way. Schadenfreude is awesome, even when it's the hometown team. If only the Brewers could hire Derek Jeter. That would be so clutch.
  16. Number 3 in your program, Number 1 in your heart, the new Manager of the Brewers, Yuni B
  17. It's very difficult to call for the head of a nice guy, and Roenicke seems like a genuinely nice guy. I hope he lands somewhere else in a year or two. That said, there is something about hearing from another voice, and if another guy can get them to play better, then so be it. Melvin should be next.
  18. That's why only four players in the history of Major League Baseball had more extra base hits in their first six seasons than Ryan Braun. Those men? Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio, Chuck Klein and Albert Pujols. Door County would like you to pick their cherries.
  19. I don't care about the terms or length of the contract. All of these guys want to get paid, and he actually signed for a lot less than other players on other teams. Pujols, Hamilton, Fielder, Andrus, Verlander, ARod, Teixeira, Howard. . .there's a lot of bad, big money deals out there. It's only the worst in Brewers history if they don't learn from it. The Brewers have more revenue than ever, playing in a newish stadium. They can afford the contract, and yet it's so costly, it might actually force them to do a total rebuild, instead of trying to go for it every year. If Braun has to face some scorn over the next few years, then so be it.
  20. I love that, too. But I'm stupid that way.
  21. They're terrible. That's not wholly a bad thing, as it gives no real room for ownership and management to think otherwise. Last year's hot start is even further back in the rear view mirror. Still, there is little to drive any interest in the team for the casual fan. Expect more attention to be given to Hank and less to the players.
  22. Bud Selig was booed at the All Star Game when he called the game a tie. I imagine there was some booing during the Mike DeJean/Jerry Royster mound confrontation. I've softened with age and parenthood, so I think my booing days are over. But I could imagine myself booing Logan Schafer.
  23. I am also a fan of the Loge Infield seats. We have 3 seats in (Family) Section 217 on a 20-game Sunday pack. Row 5 on the right side of the aisle. We had a package last year on the field level, around 15 rows behind the screen and hated the seats. Constantly getting up for our neighbors, passing cash and beer...the speakers are unnecessarily loud down there. Plus the slope of the bowl was inadequate, and my daughter couldn't see over the people in front of her. Lots of complaining. For day games, I like a small amount of sun, though it seems that people on the 3rd base side get pretty baked.
  24. I don't mind the Hank stuff. It takes attention away from this awful team. They'll keep selling Hank merchandise as long as people keep buying it. I voted for the knit cap, with my 2nd spot being the cereal bowl and 3rd being the duffel bag.
  25. Brewcrewdue80-- Best wishes on a speedy and full recovery. I'm glad to hear that you received treatment and caught this when you did. There may be difficult days ahead, but know that there is a community of fellow Brewers fans at our own computers, pulling for you. And if you're cooped up in recovery for awhile, at least you'll have 6 months of baseball starting up in a few days. You're welcome to keep us informed of your progress...or to keep it private, too. It's totally up to you. Good luck.
