  1. That wasn't the point.
  2. I can't believe alcohol would ever be allowed on a campus bus. That seems to be problem #1. I can't believe kids under 21 are allowed to drink alcohol. Wait, they aren't allowed to, but it still happens. I think that's kind of the point Al.
  3. Young is a nice player, but as End points out, JJ is better, especially when you consider his youth and price. Well, that's kind of what we're talking about. End also points out that it doesn't make sense that the Brewers would pay Hardy $15 MIL/season at 3B. When in actuality, as you pointed out Al, that price is a made up number that isn't realistic in the discussion. And I'm sorry, but they're two different players, and Hardy has not accomplished what Young has. I'm not saying Hardy isn't good, I'm saying he'd be just as good at 3B, with a better defensive SS. But yes, if money is taken in to account, I would rather have Hardy over Young too. But endaround is saying that Hardy is going to make what Young is all of a sudden, and that's just exaggeration big time.
  4. Hardy isn't better than Young. Just isn't. In two years? Maybe. And again, Hardy isn't coming anywhere CLOSE to $15 mil a season for a while.
  5. I wasn't necessarily talking to you TheCrew. More endaround, who basically says that Hardy will cost $15 Mil a year (someday?) so it doesn't make any sense to move him to 3B. Again, I'm not necessarily opposed to trading Hardy, but if you can't find a deal that you like, moving him to 3B isn't ridiculous, it's actually sensible. Think of how many times Hardy and Counsell were in the lineup at SS and 3B respectively, what's the difference between Hardy and Escobar? I'll tell you the difference, the defense on the left side of the infield would be spectacular.
  6. JJ Hardy is comparable to Michael Young? Young gets 250 (or so) combined hits and walks every single year. I like Hardy, but I don't think they're really all that comparable. And the whole salary comparison is misleading too, since Young got that deal after he played 6 or 7 years. Will Hardy make something along those lines in three years? Maybe, but three years is the operative phrase, or should be. Talking about Hardy making $15 million a year anytime soon is jumping the gun big time. I don't see how Hardy, with his arm, and his 25 HR power is a terrible option at 3B for a team in need of a 3B and a young SS waiting in the wings. I'm not saying that the best option isn't to trade Hardy to a SS needy team, but to dismiss the idea of moving him to 3B? Why?
  7. To be honest, I'm fine with people saying that CC can't win the CY Young because he's only pitched three months in the NL. But you know what, he deserves MVP, and it's not even close. If that makes any sense.
  8. As Bob Wiley would say.... "Baby Steps." GO BREWZ! No offense, but screw that. Ride that legend that is CC...and Gallardo (who will cement his legendary status I have a feeling too).
  9. Let me also say that CC Sabathia should win the NL CY Young, the NL MVP (super serious), and is a Brewer legend. And also, let's give some props to Dale Sveum (again, serious).
  10. The nature of Sheets injury does not make him nearly as big a risk as a Harden, Prior, Schmidt type of player. I think the anti-sheets crowd really overestimates how worrisome his injury history is. Assuming the arm pain is just normal overused pitcher type pain and nothing serious I'd assume he gets something like a 3-4 year deal for good money. He has had one major injury in his career and it isnt' in an area that is expected to have a lot of repeat injuries. In 2005 he missed one month to the shoulder injury and some time to the ear thing which I find it unlikely anyone is worried about. In 2006 the brought him back early from the injury and he aggravated it, something completely normal for a pitcher coming off an injury. He was healthy the last 2.5 months of the season and put up a 3.15 ERA and .678 OPS against. In 2007 he had minor blister/groin problems that limited him, again not the kind of injuries that really worry teams long term. He went into his last healthy start with a 3.36 ERA and .686 OPS against. In 2008 he was healthy until the last month of the season and who knows how serious that is. He was heavily abused by Yost and still managed a 3.09 ERA and .674 OPS against. Yes, yes, we know, we know. But we keep having this debate over and over and over again. And guess what that means? It means he's not available to pitch too often. I don't hate Ben Sheets. He's a very good pitcher when available. But they're now in their second straight stretch run for a playoff spot and guess what? No Sheets. Again, it's not a knock on what type of person he is, but enough is enough. He's fragile, whether or not the "nature of the injury" isn't serious. It's serious enough for him to be unavailable. He's done with Milwaukee, and we as fans should move on, not keep making excuses for why he's not out there when they need him most. And again, this doesn't mean he's a bad guy, and deserves to be booed. But we also shouldn't make him out to be some kind of sad story and ignore the fact that Ben has become a very wealthy man with the Brewers. 2004 was a long time ago guys.
  11. Actually I posted that when he had pitched two innings, when it was obvious he wasn't well, but it wasn't after the fact. Your attack has nothing to do with anything other than who wrote the post (me). Piece of work dude.
  12. It's great for you to point out the obvious after it's happened. I'm posting that I'm glad Ben Sheets "pitched" his last game as a Brewer today and will become some team's multi-million dollar problem/mistake/source of frustration. If that is now obvious to someone like you JJHardy, then hallelujah. It's hardly an opinion of mine that was formed today, just reinforced. EDIT: And furthermore, when I said it's obvious he shouldn't be out there, I'm also saying he's not healthy. So, Sheets gutting it out and deciding to give it a go possibly cost the Brewers the game before it even started. Giving him credit for finally going out there when he isn't right, well, isn't right for the team, and was a premature kudos to Sheets.
  13. Interesting that Ben Sheets being "gutsy" just might be what keeps the Brewers out of the playoffs. He should have stayed in the dugout.
  14. Obviously he shouldn't be out there today, so I appreciate the fact that he'll be some other team's problem starting next year.
  15. Who wouldn't want 7 home games in the NLCS as a possibility? I agree that the Cubs should want the Brewers in the playoffs.
  16. Yes, Ray Durham has been very good. He should have been used well before this week.
  17. I finally have realized that the Brewers will never be good enough. 81-88 wins doesn't do it for me, so I'll save myself a lot of heartache to not give a crap. Sounds lame, but this off season will bring back the ugly reality of the landscape of Major League Baseball when the Yankees go hog wild spending again, the Cubs will get even better, and the Brewers window has closed. Will the next 'wave' of young talent be good enough? I already know the answer, and I feel good about that as weird as that sounds.
  18. Yeah, I'm not sure what the point is to say this smacks of desperation. Look at what's happened...desperate? You bet. I have many friends who are Brewers fans, at different levels of fandom (?). I've received five texts and four calls, all positive to the Brewers actions. I'm not sure Yost had many supporters outside this website.
  19. Let's not overstate the talent level of this team. They may have reached 23 games over .500 this year, but that does not mean they were/are a 93 win team. Remember, this team was projected by respected sites (Baseball prospectus) to win 83 games at the beginning of the year. It may be that this team actually over-achieved under Yost, rather than being held back by him. Of course, this isn't some simulation video game. How are BP's success rates at predicting wins? You can't just plug numbers in and come out with the end result. If you could, these guys at Baseball Prospectus wouldn't be working for Baseball Prospectus, they'd be retired on the beach counting their gambling winnings.
  20. Goodbye Playoffs! Goodbye 5 years of hard work and building! We had our shot. Doug Melvin had better be the next head to roll. This organization is essentially giving up and starting over 15 days early. Just curious, but what was so different an hour ago?
  21. The unprecedented timing is VERY telling on how he was perceived by the players. Of course I can't prove that, but sometimes you have to read between the lines. Am I EXPECTING them to make the playoffs now? Maybe not, but I'm a lot more confident.
  22. The laughingstock was Ned Yost's explanations for....everything.
  23. And all of a sudden, I'm interested/optimistic again. I can't wait to see how Yost responds.
  24. For football fans out there, Denver Broncos DE Elvis Dumervil is 5'11" 260 pounds. Start your comparions there.
