  1. Well it's a little over 7 years old, not 10, but point taken.
  2. So when LaPorta takes a full season to adjust to major league pitching, we write off 2009? Ah yes, you probably said the exact same thing about Braun last year too endaround. And I remember the Ryan Braun thread when the majority of posters around here predicted him for closer to 10 home runs than 20 over the last four months of the season. Who cares if he doesn't hit as good as Braun did (that's a tall order)? Do you really think he's not going to be any good? People say Prince won't age well once he hits 30? Hell, I don't see him aging well after hits 25. He's getting fatter by the day.
  3. The Brewers are a winless Saturday and Reds victory over the Indians away from last place.
  4. I think the whole point is that Prince has publicly vented about his salary and the fact that he's in Milwaukee for a few years regardless (and didn't make it sound like it was a good thing). If he wants to be paid now, all he has to do is look across the clubhouse at Ryan Braun. Of course he likely won't take a deal like Braun just signed. So, bottom line for me is if he complains any more about his pay, he's a dolt.
  5. Rashard Griffith also had a nice ride with a really nice stereo, from what I could tell when you heard him coming down Regent St.
  6. Look up their prospect lists and pick some names off the list. Same goes with the Astros, who will be three games up on the Brewers by Monday. If they keep winning the chances that they are buyers come July keep growing. So, no as of right now the Brewers aren't as bad as they seem compared to other teams they are competing with, but those teams won't stand pat!
  7. Yeah, you're right, the Cardinals will just stand pat. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif Saying they MUST trade Rasmus to get better is ridiculous.
  8. Yeah, but you can keep going on the projections for the Cardinals from the beginning of the year all the way until they're 53-28 at the halfway point, and THEN they make a couple good trades to solidify their team. Everyone seems to leave that aspect out of the equation for a team like the Cardinals.
  9. Ned's been a team player from the beginning and Melvin has shown loyalty beyond reason to his managers. I've stated this in a number of threads, but I don't see anything happening to Yost until there is a drop in revenues because of fan discontent no matter what the record. Until they lost money they'll keep spinning excuses. Well if you're right, Doug Melvin will be canned too. And that's too bad, because I really think he did a good job building the team up from when he took over. His major fault is who he had managing the team. And if he can't realize it regardless of how much of a team player he is, then he deserves to be fired as well. I think it will come to a point where if Melvin doesn't act...Attanasio will...on both of them. And if that is the case, I would predict within two weeks after the draft for both of them.
  10. When a starting pitcher other than Ben Sheets hasn't registered a win since April 5th, it's not good. It's not hard to figure out, there's no need for projections that will change on a weekly basis. When two kids are picking teams on the schoolyard, they don't have spreadsheets in front of them, they know who is good and who isn't and they pick accordingly...the Brewers are one of the last kids left standing around right now, and have been for a while now...and there's no reason to think it will improve much by standing pat.
  11. I love it when people see the light on Ned Yost! Welcome TLB!
  12. In my opinion, it'd have to be something really, really bad, for DM to do it because firing Ned would basically mean conceding that the season is over and they have nothing to play for. I know it's your opinion, but that's a hard stance to get behind. You fire Ned Yost and you're saying the season is over? In my humble opinion, if say the Brewers lose three more to the Cards this weekend, fall to 16-20...potentially 9 games behind the laughingstock Cardinals on May 11th? KEEPING Ned Yost is saying you're conceding the season. Firing him, is saying you're holding him and the team accountable. Nothing to play for if you fire Ned Yost? I just don't get it. I'm not saying firing Ned Yost will magically turn things around for sure, but why in the hell not TRY?! What has Ned Yost done that makes him so loved by some people? I mean really, what has he done to make him even bulletproof if you don't love him or even like him? The guy has no track record to make firing him such a drastic idea. It should have happened within a week of the season ending last year.
  13. Hey man, I'm saying it'd be a great move pogokat! Is anyone worth $11.5 M Al? That's just the going rate. Picking up a guy at that price versus a lesser guy at $13 million just makes perfect sense to me, because prices are just going to go up. And it's not 3 years...it's already almost 2.75 and going down every day.
  14. Well, if the Brewers get swept by the Cardinals, that'll be it for Ned. And since the Cardinals bully the Brewers no matter who is on the field for either team for whatever reason, I will say Monday is N Day.
  15. I think the point is that Ned Yost has had a pretty good team the last 162 games. Probably better talent than the other managers mentioned, except Leyland. Or we could also just look at overall career records between Cox, Leyland, and Yost if you don't think the Brewers roster over the last 162 games matters.
  16. I'd actually prefer someone with multiple years, because I don't like the idea of giving up good prospects for a rental. Exactly. It's killing two birds with one stone. I'd prefer a deal like this to happen sooner though, so if it doesn't work and the team falls out of it, at least they tried, and then they can sell some pieces too. And again, you still have Vazquez next year.
  17. Vazquez is a nice pitcher, I just don't see them going after a guy with 3y left on his deal, as there will likely be plenty of 2 month rentals and 1 year, 2 month guys. Yeah, but who? And again, is having Vazquez for two more years at $11.5M per really a bad thing? I think everyone here would say that when (if) Sheets leaves after this season, they need to "replace" him. I guess I just don't see these great options that will be out there in the free agent market at least. Sabathia or Penny? Too expensive I would guess. Garland? Maybe. Lowe? I like him, but if you're concerned about Vazquez's age, then that wouldn't make sense.
  18. The thing is though, TooLiveBrew, is no one is saying that the Astros are a playoff team. No one is saying that the Astros are even better than the Brewers. I just vented because a lot of people on this site dismiss them, but think the Brewers are better than they are. I think the Brewers are a lot more similar to the Astros than they are to the Cubs, or even the Cardinals. So my point was if the Astros should be dismissed, you should pretty much dismiss the Brewers as well. Just because I would rather have Lance Berkman at this time (again, not factoring in any salary, age, etc) doesn't mean Prince Fielder is a bad player. I'm just trying to point out again that the Astros and Brewers are in the same boat, and not the totally different teams that this site tends to think. That's it. It's more of a depressing realization on our Brewers, nothing more.
  19. And I thought a player's prime was 27?
  20. Would I take Weeks over Matsui? Yes. But if you're arguing that Rickie Weeks is head and shoulders above someone, then that someone is not a good baseball player. Knee jerk reactions? Come on. Lance Berkman is in the MVP race pretty much every year. Prince Fielder had a great year last year. I said, taking age, salary, and all other factors out of the equation, I would rather have Lance Berkman than Prince Fielder this year. And more than one person agreed with me. Relax.
  21. Man, Lance Berkman is a great hitter. Always has been. Last year was pretty much his worst year. He's good. If Prince can have a career like Berkman he should be thankful. And Rickie Weeks is extremely overrated around here. Potential? Maybe, but so far he's been bad. No way around it.
  22. Except Al, Vazquez doesn't seem to have an injury history like ALL pitchers have I'm told. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  23. Javier Vazquez would be an ideal addition colbyjack. And not only for the rest of this season. That's the type of trade that shows that the team is trying to win now, but not necessarily mortgaging the future to do so. In fact, it's a smart way to get a replacement for Sheets. I know, I know, Sheets (when healthy) is a lot better than Vazquez. But Vazquez isn't chopped liver.
  24. Well someone has been cheated out of money...and let's just say that it wasn't Eric Gagne.
  25. Shouldn't we be glad that Yost is looking at past success as he's making decisions? Sure. Just as long as you're not going back half a decade when recent past shows that a half decade ago is ancient past.
