  1. I'm just stunned that a 30 year old journeymen, quad a catcher is not suddenly a superstar. Stunned I tell you. He just needs more opportunities!
  2. I mean this Suter dominance has to end at some point but my goodness is it a fun ride to be on for now.
  3. Got it, you don’t like guy. Winning in baseball is hard to do, if you believe a manager hangs around for 16 years just due to loyalty, while actively hindering a team’s chances to win, you must think baseball front office executives are really stupid, or perhaps your dislike of Yost is coloring your judgment I don't dislike him. He seems like a nice guy. I don't think he's a good in-game manager and have provided examples demonstrating that.
  4. I don't have time to look it up but the 2010 bullpen was horrific. That was the year Hoffman broke down. And who is this top of the rotation starter you speak of? Gallardo? He wasn't top ten in the NL in any meaningful stat. Ned Yost stuck around because the Royals were loyal to a guy who sat there drinking 16 cups of coffee and watched a really good team win him a title (see also McCarthy Mike - not the coffee part, but the loyalty to a guy who won a title part). I mean if people want to give Yost credit for that go ahead but there are countless examples during his tenure where he got in the way of a victory with his ego and decision making.
  5. I think 6 is about perfect. Give the top two teams a bye in round one.
  6. If the Cubs have a chance to play any kind of spoiler they will have something to play for.
  7. Didn't Yost bean a guy in like a one or two run game? I seem to recall something like that happening. Edit: I think it was this game: https://www.espn.com/mlb/news/story?id=3039761 With the Brewers trailing 3-2 in the eighth, McClung threw the ball behind Pujols, clipping the Cardinals slugger on the right elbow. St. Louis went on to score four runs in the inning and won the game 7-3. This was a September game in the middle of a pennant race mind you. Fireable offense, IMO.
  8. I'd have brought him back but only to play Middle Linebacker.
  9. Macha was crotchety but I feel like he at least knew how to handle a bullpen.
  10. Phillies @ Nationals 12:05PM Phillies @ Nationals 6:05PM Cubs @ Pirates 6:05PM Cardinals @ D-Backs 8:40PM
  11. I think a stooge could have easily managed that KC bullpen to a World Series. Wade Davis might have had one of the greatest seasons a reliever has ever had.
  12. 19 - 6 since this thread started.
  13. I think it'd be hard to scout opposing players for potential trades if they never played in a game. You'd have no stats to analyze and no film to look at. Developing your own guys seems like a no brainer.
  14. Can you imagine Yost with this year's team?
  15. The Brewers have defied the odds: "Overall, the Brewers are 15-2 since September 6. In that time, they’ve raised their playoff odds from 5.6% to 97.1%. It’s one of the best runs any team has put together this season, and given the circumstances, it’s come from one of the last teams one would expect." https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-brewers-have-defied-the-odds/
  16. Re: the offense I think the offensive line has looked pretty darn good all things considered. We really don't know what this offense is just yet. The three teams they've played can make anyone look bad. If this three game stretch had happened in the middle of the season people would probably chalk it up to the defenses. As others mentioned, let's see how they look against Philly.
  17. Phillies @ Nationals 6:05PM Cardinals @ Arizona 8:40PM
  18. Saints look really good without Brees.
  19. From Haudricourt: Just chatted with #Brewers official scorer Tim O'Driscoll, one of the best in the business. He said once SS Orlando Arcia left his feet to attempt diving catch on Reynolds liner, that clinched calling it a hit. Went beyond ordinary effort.
  20. I wanted the Cubs to win as well but if they were going to lose this was a really fun way for them to do so.
  21. Little Nico Hoerner trying to play the hero...
  22. Yes! Tied up. How about a nice 14 inning game?
